The Wolverine @ Western Hills Jan 31st

With teams trying to qualify for state duals and teams confirming..and teams dropping. .it is a hard task to make sure a tournament that is used as a fundraiser is either full or not...to ask at the last moment to get in any tournament is 50/50..but the teams that come every year..get priority. .then we add..turning down a team is NOT a personal issue..we are trying to provide a quality tournament. .good wrestling. .and get everyone home at a decent hour..please in the future if you want to be in our tournament. .confirm early. .with the understanding if you make state duals ..excellent. .we will fill slots..thank you to all the quality teams coming the 31st. .WHHS appreciates you..and will bust our tails to provide your teams with a quality tournament. .

    285

On the surface....You Have Frank , then Ford , and Caudill.....of Course...then you have some Bracket busters with porter , Patrick, and Moore, and Wilkins...Throw in some unknown with ...Grant Co. and Holy Cross, and a few under the radar........I think it will not be as cut and dry as people think this year...my predictions....there will be a new State Champion @ 285(with House out) ....and it will not be who you think...got to love this time of year...as always we will see, the BIG GUYS are closer than you think...no clear cut front runner....which makes for exciting times on the MAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Caudill is not on the roster, did not know he was wrestling, I agree that injured should not remove from list. Glass and Deaton are not on the rosters either, and BJ Carmen is @195 for sure
  4. ..........@285........Chris Lawrence was a senior last year, Jared Deaton is not wrestling, BJ Carmen is wrestling 195 Mikey caudill is injured, Jeremy Glass is not on the roster, might want to take a look at these , Mason frank injured as well ????
  5. the 285 Division has some people not there: Lawrence from St. X was a senior last year, and quite a few heavies are not on rosters, might want to get some feedback from this as well.....Plus I have heard that Carmen from larue may be going 195 as well as Davis from Jeffersontown 195 as well maybe 220, and no signs from Glass from Holy Cross, and Caudill from Oldham and Deaton from PCC........would be a big shake up with all this moving

    Haves and Have Nots

I have listened (read) and the MAIN problem is MONEY, most programs do not bring in enough money for the school to even think about a wrestling program (growth) I mean where has everybody been? most schools have a travel limit set, cutting teachers, Principals, funding in general. So the main problem is that most smaller schools only involve themselves with sports that generate funding, and still they have to have Booster Funding to survive, I know of schools that make football teams take care of their own fields, (seeding, mowing , ect) so let us be honest, lack of funding, Parents without jobs, let it rest. Be smart , there will be no growth until the State recovers, until the Country recovers, until wrestling can be self reliant, and by the way you do know that if a team reaches the State tournament in football, they get a piece of the pie , wrestling you pay for it all, all the way, and I hope that everyone who has ALL of the money to provide for the excellent programs, remember that with excellent funding, and facilities, and a athletic base to pick and chose from, it is a whole lot easier to rise to the top, it is not a big surprise that large schools win championships, and have individuals that are the cream of the crop, again better training partners, better facilities, better equipment, I know this does not mean instant success, but it sure does help, if money, and a large athletic base to choose from and facilities does not matter, would you turn it down as a Coach? if offered? I have no problem with larger schools and people that can afford them, I think they are giving their kids a chance to be successful and that is what all of us should do, but let us be honest and stop with all of the changes and let us try to get through the problems we already have, and bring this to the table when it is feasible, when the schools are even capable of buying the wrestling team uniforms, and pay for the tournaments that they enter, and maybe a MAT to train on that is NOT from the 80's, that is what we need to get through, not growth and splitting the classes...........of course this is my opinion strictly

    Football/Wrestlers

Western Hills has two upcoming wrestlers--football players....hopefully more to come...the head football coach supports the wrestling program and actually comes to some of the matches !!!!!!!!!!! it makes it a heck of alot easier to get kids to come out and the benefits are being seen not only on the field but in the classroom (consistant monitoring of grades) and their attendance (got to come to school to practice) it will only make the kids better...he has seen what wrestling does for his student/ athletes, what kind of shape they are in , and the mental focus they bring with them.....it is a win/win situation.......thanks Coach Miller and Head Wrestling Coach Bowser for making this happen

    Discussion: Fargo & State

Unfortunately I can read between the posts of Dinabus, his interests are of good nature (I hope) that better overall competition breeds excellence, (I agree) it teaches your strengths and weakness and give you an overall look at what you need to have a productive practice, and lets you know what works and doesn't, with that being said , I think in all of the years of coaching , pushing your on ideas, whether they are correct, may come out sounding like you are disregarding the valiant efforts of many, and that does not go over well and then you find yourself fighting (argue), you do have a great point , but the needs of the many do not out weigh the needs of the few and we do not need everybody trying to be an AA, there are a select motivated few athletes and coaches, with the financial, and work schedule, and family support who deserve a shot, but like it has been said , most wrestlers are interested in a state title(which in its own takes alot of sacrifice and support) but remember the many athletes that are not interested in AA status are the ones that keep the programs alive (Middle school, Elem. and High School ) there are more kids wrestling that are there to be part of a team atmosphere, enjoy the sport and are using it to keep in shape or learn the skills of wrestling to enhance other sports (football) do not alienate these kids, but do keep driving the ones who want to make the next step(college) with the opportunity to be at Fargo and a chance to be an AA, this is just like any other sport, we fight the same battles in Football, and Baseball, and Basketball, the ones who are willing to go the extra mile always have the opportunity, the ones who do not can still have goals and can still be apart of the sport, not everyone wants to be Dan Gable or Cael Sanderson, but for the ones who do Dinabus (and others) be there for them and we will make sure they get the due respect they deserve , and hopefully they reach the goals they have set...

    Discussion: Fargo & State

sorry I think a combo of both would be beneficial to the athlete, because you are forgetting one BIG thing, winning a State Title is good for the Athlete, for all his hard work, and sacrifice, to be honored with a title in front of HIS home town and His Home STATE peers, which is important, and out of state competition to rank himself or herself , so you need both, which can be achieved WITHOUT bashing one or the other, sure there is quality competition in the USA/AAU but there is also great competition in KY we have to step up and keep people from saying these negative things and remember some future State Champ, and All American is being born right now and will be walking the halls of a SCHOOL and with a quality run program at the SCHOOL it could lead to bigger and better things like watching on ESPN a FORMER KY STATE CHAMP AND ALL AMERICAN wrestling for a NCAA championship, and that is what we all want for our wrestlers and for Ky
