interesting perspective GOO... glad you shared. I've always viewed the MOW as the MOW of that specific tournament. There are clear "great" wrestlers that would win this continually up 1 side and down the other time and time again... for me it is about that tournament... i wonder who or how many have "displaced" themselves away from the State Tourney MOW to find a "potential" win in another weight division... I do like the idea of a yearly MOW; which I do see differently than a tourney MOW.

to be very candid here... I'm not sure I follow how or why any have described why a particular person should be named the MOW. I get it... it is over with. in my opinion, Ruschell should have won. Was ranked 3rd going in.... has the crappiest draw possible (top three rankings on same side of draw- Boone and Bryant along with TJ)... pins all kids (including semis and finals), except Bryant (6 point decision {14-8}. I don't think the MOW should necessarily go to the kid that is the flashiest or has "most" skills (although always difficult to tell)... how about going to the kid in the tournament that "beat" the odds and performed better than was supposed to. my opinion is that TJ was the only that met that criteria.

    Ryle- State tournament

will Ryle ever capture a state title? always prepared with talented kids. always winning the tournaments they enter throughout the year.... never a title....! do they peak too early? are the coaches capable?

    Ryle vs Jeffersonville IN

jboy... you are a good sport! i would agree (whether it is this match or any others...) this ref needs something to take his edge off... for some reason he always either gets on a specific wrestler and keeps the "case of the ass" with them... too bad. he kind of has short mans syndrome and needs to be the "boss". i did physically see the 152 wrestler touch his hands both times and thought the calls were appropriate; regardless of the ref that was there... good luck!

jboy... this was a good match... not sure the match you were watching at 152, but clearly there was locking hands; defined as both hands touching each other while on top... that is the rule... it happened. match is over with, and I would say that there were clear discrepencies... if Jeff truly had someone out... sorry... know that from 215 down to 152 should be bumped down... all of those are probably wrestling up. also 135 was out... not sure your guy would have held with ryles 135

    M.S. wrestling in H.S. ?

ryle has a very good team, with opportunities in a few weights: 103, 152, 189 and hvwt... would be surprised to see the other lose... if you don't get 6 points for each of the following i named... good luck!

naplesme... thanks! you added a level that I didn't even consider... you're awesome!!! Thanks! The Olympics... great add and example... if you know anything about the Olympics, it is an "open" environment.... anyone (although the Olympic Committee {i think} has provided stipulations....) can enter and compete... again, let's assume there wasn't an age requirement.... but sure there is... there isn't a "school" affiliation, but a country... i'll let you go fight the battle of eliminating age requirements there. the most recent controversy is about a Chinese 14 yr old competing for gymnastics... I don't make the rules... someone else did... for a reason. The real question should be, why don't other states allow this rule, but Kentucky does?

    M.S. wrestling in H.S. ?

maybe we ought (then) pre predict what college our kids would/ should go to and allow them to wrestle off for that/ those colleges as well... wow! this happens to be the dumbest rule allowable and why don't you think other "good wrestling" states don't allow this rule. End of day, open tournaments allow for this mentality based on weight. College wrestlers are college wrestlers... high school wrestlers are high school wrestlers... middle school wrestlers should be middle schoolers... and youth... youth.... Each level has it's own characteristics and they are all about developmental. If you want the sport to grow, you must provide as many opportunities for wresters to start wrestling and stay motivated, not shut wrestlers down by allowing wrestlers from outside "tiers/ levels" to shatter that motivation. Sure, there are great kids that can wrestle outside their level/ tier... whoop ding! They'll have their time! In the meantime, let others have theirs as well. This shouldn't be about "Dads" needing to see how good thier kids acutally are... or coaches needing to stack teams to make them better than what they have the resources within their own schoolgo to do so... the Fargo Nationals for that. Thanks for taking time to listen.

    Thoughts from Middle School Tourney

The wrestling spoke for itself...! I would say that we need to step it up a bit in the following areas: a) 5 match rule... candidly the only word I can come up with here is embarrassing... How in the world can you create a state tournament where the major majority of the 3rd/4th place and 5th/6th matches were non existent due to this rule... is somebody actually kidding me that we are flipping coins for this... as they would say on SNL... REALLY!!! Got to change this... as you suggested a two day tournament or a one event rule change should be in order very quickly... proper rankings are not being established by current system. I would also submit that a two day tournament (logistical challenge or not) would create better wrestling and result... this is wrestling, not an ironman event! Referees- many good, some also embarrassing... would suggest only the best be allowed to take part in this event that is critical to many developing wrestlers... when a referee can't hit the mat quick enough for back point due to physical limitations (no disrespect...) they might ought to look to be paid at other venues... this is not the venue for this activity. When the referee looks at the wrestlers and make the serious question, "who won this bout"... just as he needs to raise a hand... we have a problem. We know who they are... let's rid of them! c) table workers- although I describe this as table workers... maybe should be placed under the referee section. Way too many scoring errors with bouts... wrestlers winning 8-0, but disputes overruling acutal results take wreslters into a 4-4 tie and overtime situations... terrible! Standards for these folks need to instituted for major tournaments such as this. As well, I would suggest that referees only allow for coach descrepencies after the whistle has blown to stop wrestling activity and after each period only for that period... once posted... done... no way to go back any further in the match to create dispute... saw wrestlers flat lose because of poor scoring and alternate scorer copying... no cell phones by these folks!!! d) tournament logistics- would love to hear final results announced after each bout is completed... isn't that why brackets are sold incomplete... so we can know who is wrestling and complete them??? Other than that... very well run and "on time"! Nice job! e) tournament site and entry- very pricey! Would submit there could be other premier locations to host site... maybe a consideration to create a bid process for other schools to host tournament. Oh, how were they able to also host a dance at same location, same evening??? Weird... f) did anyone say "middle school"??? What exactly is the definition of middle school??? why are there kids that aren't in middle school wrestling at this event? Who defines "middle school"?

    Gray Middle School Whistler

 Just got back from the State Tournament and I think I actually "saw" and "heard" the "PHANTOM"... Initially, I wasn't sure it was "him"... but quickly realized "he" could be the only person selling cotton balls for those whose ears bleed... Wow is "he" loud!!! And sexy too! signed, Fans who only really want to pick their kids up after matches are completed...

Easy, or the "Phantom" will blow your ears out if he finds you talking about him/ her...
  15. LateralDrop

    Weight Allowance?

"Momma"... I agree there should not be a weight allowance; as wrestlers (at this point in the season) should have their weight under control and "pretty near" the weigh in weight... Good luck to the "Beast" next year! :|
