Glad to hear that...I hate that his hip injury knocked him out, especially after having the season extended 3 weeks because of the cancellation. I hope to see some great wrestling from him in the future.

Buckman at 131...he got 2nd but they said it was only his 2nd year wrestling. The 150 Champ Smith also surprised me. I was more surprised by the pick for MOW.

Congratulations to Union County on their impressive win. They were counted out (as usual) for the State Duals and dominated. Before you say it, I know not all teams were present. Then they went to the tournament and again dominated (and no Ervins were on the mat this year). They brought in 9 wrestlers: 3 champs, 1 2nd place, 3 3rd place. Their 75 pounder went 2 and 2 for the day as a 4th grader and their heavyweight went 1-2 as a 2nd year wrestler. That not only speaks well for the wrestlers but the coaching staff. Great Job Union! Trinty was impressive and I really felt like their coaching staff deserve a lot a credit for their performance. Congrats to Campbell County as well. Is Union the first to post 4 wins (and consecutive at that) as a club/school? Just when you think they have graduated enough to high school to be competitive, they put the hammer down again.

Well, I agree with all be the rotating to the 4 corners part...unless that invovles an independent venue. I think that we should take this as a hard lesson learned that no school system should be used to host the tournament. It is unfair to all parties involved but most specifically to the wrestlers who work toward this goal all season. The cost of securing a location will stink but this stinks worse! It also stinks that there was not a back up plan. If they know that Mrs. Johnston is an unreasonable, anti-sports witch, then they should have been busting tail to get another place secured. Now we either scrap it or cross our fingers that they are able to extend the season for 3 more weeks. What will a three week layoff do to the wrestlers? She wouldn't want testing to be after a three week layoff. Like I said earlier, she would have stated 501 reasons why they couldn't cancel a SBDM meeting or a School Board meeting due to predicted weather.

Very well stated...don't agree let one of your schools host, if you are not going to man up and follow through...guarantee that the Superintendent wouldn't have cancelled a SBDM meeting or (God forbid) a School Board meeting with this weather forecast!

Safety?!?!?!?!...come on...school systems go to school in worse weather than this....would you be saying this if they cancelled high school since this is only "middle" school?!? I don't think that another event of ANY kind should EVER be allowed to be hosted by that school system. However, if that is the only place we can get this year, then go for it. The wrestlers sacrifice so much during the season to become the best and should not be punished for moronic decisons and the lack of proper planning. If that Superintendent was so worried about "safety" and the well being of everyone, then he/she should have cancelled at least 48 hours ago. That Superintendent should have more respect for all of the wrestlers and supporters than to wait to the last minute to cancel an event of this importance. He/she would demand that type of respect everyday and would not allow an SBDM or School Board meeting to be cancelled at the last minute.

I wonder if this had been a State Tournament for basketball if we would be having this discussion. Probably not!! I know how hard my son and his fellow teammates have worked. So, I hope that the Superintendent of that school loses a night sleep for every drop of sweat and every pound lost for every wrestler in this state(consecutively and not concurrently). I hope that the phone rings off of the hook, the emails crash their entire network and that the bad publicity NEVER ceases for that Superintendent. I hope that Superintendent NEVER attains another hope or dream for as long as he/she draws breath. There are some hopes and dreams that once time passes can NEVER be attained. I feel for that school system with a leader like that because test scores are probably CRAMMED down every ones throat. There are some kids that only see success through sports, academics are not their gift. I have a BRILLANT idea, let's cancelled their testing week.....the scores will tank and the Superintendent will be a mass casuality of the fallout. That is the least he/she DESERVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Union will continue to be as tough program. The middle school club program has won 3 straight State titles and 2 (consecutive) State Duals titles. The Middle School team just keeps growing much to the credit of the Head Coach, Brad Hagedorn (was just named Coach of the Year for 3rd straight year). He has only been coaching for 4 years.

Are you asking for just high school coaches or both middle and high school coaches?

OMG!!!!! I cannot believe that people would seriously pick Woodford over LaRue. I am not affliated to either; HOWEVER, our team has had to sit in the section next to both of these teams. Woodford had their crap everywhere, stood in front of us while we were styring to watch matches, trashed with food and drink their area of the gym and OBNOXIOUS when ask to respect the teams around them. Not to say that things did not get heated during matches but as least they were respectful of the gym, their space and moved out of the way when asked. Having 13 trophies only proves that Woodford earned more points not that they were TRUE champions. TRUE champions are winners on and off the mat!!!!!!

YES, thank God for justice and karma. I have tried to be open minded but they are so arrogant and obnoxious and it's not just the team but the parents. One of the moms even threatened to beat up my 14 year old daughter because she had on our team's shirt. I know that this sport is intense and the competition is fierce but they do not know where to draw the line. There is a lot to be said about sportsmanship. I know that the team I support has its faults and is hated by many. However, no one in the state can compare to them. I am glad their dominance has been challenged so maybe they can learn some humility and sportsmanship.

I have loved the sport since the early 80's so I have to give a shout out to Loader Thomas from Union County. He had some of the best teams in KY history. A lot of his wrestlers are still giving back to KY wrestling: G. Ervin, R. Ervin, T. Ervin, D. Lovell, B. Hagedorn and M. Sheffer to name just a few. He is even getting back in the action with his grandsons at the ms level.
