    Middle School State Venue

Great idea Stan...the only problem I see is kids missing school...personally I think alot of these attendance policies in the schools are silly...if we could work out something with the school systems on attendance this would be great

We are failing youth wrestling programs!

Wow...You seem to be the only one on here who saw this stuff going on Sunday...Maybe you were just looking for trouble...Best I can tell you is if you don't like the way Harrison runs a tournament maybe the next time they have one, just stay home...2 certified refs were there and they didn't seem to have very many problems...No more problems than you would see at any other tournament...As I looked around I only saw 1 school that seemed to have a problem keeping parents off the mat...That was the same school that my 6 year old had to dodge as he was attempting to wrestle a match becasue a coach/parent followed them around the mat...After they were told repeatedly to stay in the bleachers by coaches from several different teams...My guess is you probably know them well...My apologies for suggesting you help run a few tournaments...Maybe you have, I guess I have just missed the ones you have been involved with...The one than runs perfectly with no problems...And for the record, I didnt call you an idiot so I don't particularly appreciate you calling me one

I am not sure where D.W. is from or what he was watching at the tournament but he is way off in his analysis of Sunday's events. First of all there were 2 certified h.s. referees there and I know for a fact that they stepped in on a couple of situations upon request of the referee in charge just as they were told to do if there were problems. The coaches were asked to be patient and as courteous as possible to these kids. Unfortunately that doesnt happen. Parents are the worst!!! They were told to stay in the bleachers and of course that didnt happen. There is enough pressure on these kids who referee without an idiot parent who doesnt know the rules or can't keep their you know what in the bleachers to allow these kids to do their job or allow their kids to wrestle. My kid wrestled a match and was continuously punched (closed fist) in the face as he was trying to pin him. He went on and finished the match and didnt complain about it while kicking this kid's butt. Maybe if a kid cant handle the stress and toughness of this sport they should try chess or checkers. I have dealt with at least one bad ref everywhere i have coached this year. And I did "deal" with it. Maybe if the parents knew how to act these things would not happen. But it is impossible to run a tourney, keep officials in line, make sure scores are kept correctly and continuously keep parents in the bleacher. Great job Harrison on running a very difficult tournament. As for D.W., maybe you should attend a few more tournaments to see what these coaches and refs have to deal with. Or better yet, volunteer to help run one!!!

    2009 COUGAR OPEN - MARCH 14TH

Are there any results posted anywhere for the Cougar Open...just curious

    Winning

I just don't understand the big deal about this team or that or whatever...not every kid has the opportunity to wrestle for an elementary team that has a shot at a "team title"...the way I see it, get them in the best program possible within your district or region and teach them to be good sports and have fun and the winning will come with the territory...I heard parents at our region griping about this kid shouldn't be in this bracket or this kid should be in another age group because they had more experience and they had never seen the kid wrestle...let the kids settle it on the mat...rankings and predictions mean nothing when your 7, 8, 9, 10 years old...See ya at state

    Winning

I wrestled in the early 90's for a really good Harrison County team and we didn't even have an elementary program...I am very fortunate now to have 2 boys of my own who love to wrestle...they are 5 and 10 and do it because they love to wrestle...but the more I read on here the more I want to stay home Saturday because its not about the kids anymore...that was one of the great things about wrestling...it was about the individual, how hard they worked and what they put into...unfortunately it sounds like wrestling is turning in to all the other sports...THE PARENTS TRYING TO TAKE OVER...maybe it should just be about the kids again!!!
  9. While there seems to be a lot of debate about wrestling up I have a great example of how that can hinder a kid. Bourbon's 119 Lopez wrestled up all year and finally got to 112 at Tates Creek tournament. He finished 4th there and finished 4th at Capital city. He has pinned Brad Milford twice, once at 119 and once at 112 (TCI) and he beat Gies from Boone at Capital City. So getting in the proper weight class that suits your skill, size and strength is very important. Lopez might even deserve a ranking this week. What do you think Ranger.
  10. Good job on the rankings as usual...I want to make a plug for Stout from Bourbon...He is wrestling at 125 and will be there for the remainder of the season...He is 20 and 4, placed 6th at WCI and his only losses are to Supe 6-0, Harper form Seneca beat him 2-0 and he lost twice to Krauziewicz...and he beat Whalen from Henry Clay and Nyitrai from Eastern pretty easily
