I was just informed the tourney has been canceled. Franklin County schools have cancelled all activities scheduled for today.

Lol. I thought you just REALLY liked my post!

I know that if any school participating does not have school the day before a 1lb allowance is added. Not sure what they do for a whole week?! Lol

I would like to recognize and give thanks to The Richmond Register newspaper for their coverage of wrestling in Madison County. They generally have close to a half page in the Sports Section every Tuesday of Madison Central's and Madison Southern's wrestling results from the weekend. This past Saturday Madison Central's team won the Section 4 Duals. On 3/4 of Sunday's FRONT Sports page was a write up with 4 full color pictures covering the meet which continued on into page 2. Keep in mind this was coverage over EKU and UK basketball as well as Madison Central's reining State Champions basketball team! Big Kudos to The Richmond Register!

It is my understanding that Madison Southern will be looking for a new coach next year

Hate to hear that about Avant. He was really wrestling well at the end of last season.

If that's his warm-up before wrestling- I would hate to see the warm-up before a romantic evening with the Mrs.! Lol

Nobody said the smaller guys can't be on the team and continue to practice. Just like a 5'5" guy can play basketball and be on the team if he can make it. It doesn't mean the 5'5" gets a 'special' starting position. What about the kids that weigh over 285lbs? They are being excluded as well. I'm not try to be a smart a$$ or anything. Please don't take it that way, but you have to cut it off somewhere. When a good portion of a weight class is being filled with MIDDLE school kids for a HIGH school team because there aren't enough HIGH school kids that can fill that class then I guess I'm in the minority. Even at 106- look at Ranger's rankings and look at how many of those kids are middle schoolers.
-
Count me as a No as well. Does basketball add a spot for kids under 5'5" so that they can play?
-
I'm not sure I'm following how qualification will work when each Region would be a mixed bag of both divisions? None of them having the same amount of small or large division schools in them.

Clay did not wrestle due to another commitment.

AGREED!

My point about this being a team sport is that depending on the depth of a team, the team as a whole may be stronger by moving some kids up a weight to fill those spots- team strategy. Now the 'team' part of the season comes to a conclusion and now it's the individual tournament. Time to go back to where you are strongest. I get what you are saying about cutting weight. I really do. I didnt want any of the kids that wrestled for me in middle school cutting period. (being off a pound or two is completely different). I don't think any kid under at least 16 should cut weight just from a puberty stand point. Just my opinion. My son wrestles in high school now and I still will not let him cut( excluding a pound or two). He wrestles where he's at. But it's part of the sport to some degree. Like it or not it's not going to change.
