What is your point in posting that?

Never met either in person but they both seem like great kids in their videos. It's just a bit frustrating to me because I can't even get a dang home schooled 8th grader that lives in Doss High School's district to be able to wrestle for Doss, but there are kids wrestling 7 years lol. It's not like the kid is trying to stack the odds for trinity or something. Just a decent middle school wrestler trying to get as much mat time as possible. Sorry to complain on this thread. Marinelli is sick but but Hall is other worldly. I think hall wins big.

Ok so the kid is held back by his father to repeat 7th grade, and somehow that doesn't make him academically ineligible? I guess the only way to see that is that choosing to be held back is not, in the eyes of the Minnesota athletics association, not the same as failing academically. It doesn't make any sense to me.

I have wondered this as well. How are they touting him as the first six time state champion but he was a 7th grader in Ky? Did he repeat 7th grade? And if so how does that not make the kid academically ineligible?

Wasnt aware that asking a question was "complaining". Thanks for clearing that up for me. -

Ok, I'll take that bait. The only thing I have seen from Rob Boston in regards to Dallas' state performance was "Congratulations Dallas". If you're referring to something else then I'm unaware. But by all of my accounts he is a pretty selfless coach and he, along with tons of other coaches and wrestlers in the ETC room, have helped drastically improve the stock of wrestling in Ky. If I were him I would pack up and move to Ames, but he stays here and helps tons of kids get better and accomplish their individual goals. There's not much more to be said than that I don't think. To berate another grown man behind the guise of a profile on the Internet is pretty juvenile to me. Even AJ has identified himself before he did his degrading. -

Sorry if it seemed like I was undermining the BOCO or Smith and Cottrell. Didn't mean it that way. Was just more of thinking out loud. -

I just would think that if you're bringing two West Virginia boys to Kentucky there isn't much more star power than Zeke and Austin. More star power equals more of a turnout. -

2016 State Tournament Ranger Report follow-up

Literally every single year there is an argument over MOW. Every champion is outstanding, and every placer is very good. Let's just congratulate the kids, and move on. Looking forward; does anyone touch Zane Brown for the next 3 years? He is an awesome kid and I know this is the wrong thought process but a small part of me just hopes that he can grow a lot physically in the summer and avoid Sheffer. -

My gosh that 2012 middle school 140 bracket is insane. -
Congrats Derek!

So with Brock being the first 5xer in the states history does that automatically make him the best to ever do it in Kentucky? Here are some of the guys I think of when i think of the best to ever do it in Kentucky: Brock Ervin - First 5xer Nathan Boston - First kid (I believe) from Kentucky (even if not originally) to be ranked #1 in the nation. Joe Carr Jr - 4x champion 5x finalist among other unworldly accomplishments Issac Knable - 4x champion Harrison Courtney - 6x Placer; 4x champ Travis Sullivan - 4x finalist 3x champ, broke all kinds of records at the time I believe John Woelsifer - 2x champ, unlimited potential, one of my personal favorites to watch... Anybody else got any thoughts? Who do you think is the best of all time in the state? If ATM finishes next year undefeated does that make him the best? If David Carr sticks around and wins 5x how does that place him in standings with Brock? Would national success be the tiebreaker? Anybody I left out? Thoughts..........

Nice! Congrats Derek!

I will have to agree with Nature Boy. Brock Ervin won with class. Austin Myers is kentucky's Mark Hall and he went out with class as well.
-
Notice the difference between this young man and Chad Red at the end of the match.
-
I am and always will be die hard Big Blue Nation. But guys, Rupp ain't got nothing on the Yum.
-
Well both really. The whole video was impressive. The way the finals were held in the video was awesome (single mat, center stage, spotlight, crowd, intensity) But it's true that kind of intensity doesn't come from a match other than a top national level match. I'm just saying imagine if we in Ky had another 220 last year that was also top 10 nationally and undefeated and had a real chance to beat Austin Myers. That would be amazing for all parties included. Before I get flamed; I only use Austin's name because he was the best in the nation last year and from our state, like Chad Red in the video.
