    Elementary Team Kentucky Trials Tournament

If a kid makes the team, are there practices that are centralized, is the entry fee just for the one tournament?

    Youth state

Great job to everyone who had a hand in running this years tournament. From the Raiders coaches, parents and volunteers to the table workers from Scott Co that I talked with, I'm sure hundreds of others helped along the way as well. Great job !

    Region 1 Predictions

BJ did have a really good tournament. I didn't see the Ervin match, but he absolutely dismantled Putty. I don't think Putty had ever beat him, but I never thought Miller would beat him like that. I was glad to see him beat the poor sport from Paducah/McCracken. Martin is good but everyone gets beat and he showed very poor sportsmanship following his two losses. Ferris will be just fine next week I believe. I think one of the biggest surprises of the day was Kajuan Majors (freshman from Christian Co) in the finals. He wrestled JV the first half of the year, beat Easterling in the semis, then gave Stevens all he wanted in the finals.

Bussell won 152 and Kennady won 285. There were several questionable calls, the other 3 refs did pretty good though.

    Region 1 Predictions

I have to disagree on two weight class ukpride. Call me a homer, but Dyess is wrestling really well and over the past month has quality wins. Only losses were to Boston (#1 in nation), and Erdman (Ryle) during that stretch, I really like Cameron (great kid) but I'm gonna go with Dyess. Now the Miller (OHCO) vs Putty (UHA) is a toss up. Miller beat him handily at the duel meet at Ohio Co, but because this second round match will be just like the Cole vs Dyess matchup, the winner of both matches will punch their ticket to Lexington. I believe UHA will take four to Lexington.

    Region 1 Predictions

I have to say, Crabtree (UHA) has gotten a lot better. If he can keep from making mistakes in the last few seconds of matches, he could actually be the surprise. He gave up a last second takedown to Lawson at Calloway for OT, then a bad shot to lose the match. He was up I think 7-2 at Mustang Classic to the champion from Central and got stuck with seconds left, does he have the heart to finish. I think a great 1st round match will be Cam Cole (ChCo) vs Daniel Dyess (UHA). Don't count out Unions upper weight classes for anything, their history shows they bring it this time of year. Hoptown will have a really good team showing this year for sure I like the Gray over Miller pick, Wes will have Dylan ready.

    Region 4 Championships

1st- I never said he didn't do any of those things, I said the video didn't show it. 2nd- How did the match get so out of control? That was the main meaning of my post.... The entire state should learn something from that one match. From the email I received from the MS State Board last night, I believe there was great progress made in the learning process. Zero tolerance for wrestlers, coaches, parents and fans on sportsmanship issues. If all of those factors are removed from the equation, is there a process to ensure officials on the mat make the correct call? IMO, the official allowed the match to get out of control if everything said was true. You can't tell me the official didn't see and hear all of these accusations going on during the match. Should he not have penalized the wrestler at the time of the infractions? He allowed the match to continue and raised Ric Flair's hand. How could he have allowed the kid to win? I ask because I don't understand how the official allowed the behavior?

    Region 4 Championships

I've heard the camera adds 10 lbs, but JCB, the videos didn't show any of that. His antics following the match showed excitement for making it to the finals I thought, I didn't really see any Rick Flair during or after. The video didn't show his winks, kisses or pointing and yelling at the crowd. The other stuff you talk about; pushing out of bounds, pouncing down in the ref position and elbows during the match should have in fact been taken care of during the match. So it appears to me, if the ref made poor calls during the match then he could have made poor calls after the match. I wasn't there and I am from region 1, just my view as a wrestler 30 years ago and coach for the last 7 years. I'm sure tensions were high and it was a long day, lets just move on from this. My opinion is our entire state should learn something from this mishap, from the parents of the wrestler, the parents of both teams, parents of all teams at the tournament, coaches, referees, tournament officials, table workers, and the wrestlers themselves. We teach sportsmanship, accountability, technique, gamesmanship and all kinds of other lessons. Everyone should learn something from this.

JW, why is it that District 1&2 and Region 1 are the only areas in the state up with the times using Track for the tournament?

Toughest weight class in each region?

Sorry, I had wrestlers in the 80 and 130 lb brackets. We split with one and lost to the other. They are going to be good cause they wanted it more than my guy did, I could see that from just the three matches. "Pretty good" just meant they made an impression on me with their work ethic on the mat. Those two kids told me that they probably have an incredible room full of energy of kids wanting to improve. My son wrestled Zane back when the youth state Tourn was in JC to which he has kept improving unbelievably. Yes, you guys have it going on, but I don't know any of the other kids. Only wrestled the 2 River City kids at 130 that day.
