That number 4 criteria was not used during the meeting, I know that for a fact since I got the 2 seed at 80 because Kinley beat a runner up and we beat the 3rd place finisher. When ask about records we had no losses in the state while he did and we still got pushed to 2. Also not sure who gets to vote, but at one point someone said the vote was 4-1 not in my favor? Find it hard to understand this when really it's suppose to be the 4 champs from each region. Here in western Ky we might not be the best in class but I do know 2 plus 2 lol. I agree that it all has to play out in the end, but I did feel the criteria wasn't really enforced when you got to records. I also realize the level some kids wrestle is high but if that's the criteria then that's it. I been on both ends in while coaching in high school.

Region 1 will be next Saturday all times will be the same as it was listed on the flyer.

Coach Stevens told me the tournament is still on as scheduled.

$16 wrestlers, $8 for adult, $5 kids, & they honor coaches cards.

I'm guessing the post tournaments aren't required to be on track? Thought that was mandatory.

Yes, I think so and I feel it's more then just coaches doing more. Anyone that has been coaching for a while will tell you youth & middle school wrestling cost has went up, refs want more money, one or two coaches for three levels. All those factors need to be looked at also. They are good but having better comp doesn't take care of school budgets and when it becomes about money and what a school spends people & sports get cut.

Yes, Coach's too, but just for State tournament and that is for any sport.

Hope it's not like that for High School. Our school only allows $21 a day per kid.

We will have to agree to disagree on the Athens tournament in all the years I attend I never felt that. I would agree with Firemans34 you always have to have a fall plan. If you put all your eggs in one basket, well then your wrestling during baseball season

I was present in the 80's. School was blocked off from the tournament, the gym was to the left as you walk into Athens school. Along with the school not having kids wrestling in tournament, they still held it on the weekend. Kids, parents, wrestlers, fans, and whoever could attend. This is a poor attempt to just say they tried. You can't honestly agree that a Tuesday/Wednesday Tournament is worse then the 80's wrestling? Better yet Wrestler from the 80's, the question I have for you is... how many mats were used in the finals of the 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's. It wasn't until last year that anyone considered doing it on multiple mats. Even then, they still understood the greatness these young men achieved, and how important it was. So, yes this would be the DARK AGES not based off numbers, but rather the people in charge looking at this as one thing to check off their list before the real winter sport takes place.

I personally think this is another direct reflection of our current leadership from KHSAA. KHSAA knows they will make money either way. Not as much maybe during the week, but money will be made. It’s just sad that we are doing it during a time that doesn’t allow those people that attend every year to be in attendance, and maybe those who don’t have kids in it-but attend will not be able to do so because it’s during the middle of the week. Schools will not allow kids to attend either, unless they are competing. It’s not like basketball & football those that choose to attend will have to say they are sick or have parent notes. Find it funny in all they years I have been a part of wrestling, that the things that I currently see have shown that our current KHSAA leader doesn’t care to speak up for what is right for our sport. For those that remember, it’s that same leader that decided to have multiple mats go at the same time during the finals. Is that what is good for wrestling? He thought it was and he is in charge of our sport. Its only going to get worse, I’m afraid. If we are going to make a difference where it counts, it will have to be by voicing your opinion to those that can decide, those in charge of our sport. I’m not saying the state tournament shouldn’t have been pushed back. I’m saying that to put it in a spot that spectators and competitors are forced to wait another three weeks, along with being in the middle of the school/work week is not in the best interest of the sport. Our new leadership does what it wants! Don’t be fooled into thinking different, why else does he continue to cancel the Coaches meeting every year since he has been in office? Never fails same tune different year, don’t want to hear what a crappy job he is doing from those that are a part of the sport. Afraid to say that, until this is changes, these are the DARK AGES OF WRESTLING…..

Dave Richie from Caldwell Co would have to be considered in this topic. He finished 3rd his 8th grade and freshman year. Won three state titles after that while going undefeated those three years.

One thing I observed was Region Ones representative not attending State nor the awards ceremony at State. Not sure how one can have input for a region on an event or sport when the wrestling committee meets if you don’t bother to attend the Region or State events.

Congratulations to Chris Gilkey who wrestled in Independence Mo. this past weekend at Brute Nationals. Chris finished 4th in 148lbs. weight class. Kentucky had a few other guys attend this tournament not sure how they did.

Caldwell County is looking for a tournament on 1-18-14 preferable one within 4hrs. looking to travel outside of western kentucky. Any information would be greatly appricated.

After looking through the state brackets noticed a few guys that didn't wrestle in the Regions but should still be in school and placed at state last year was wondering where they are? Chris Abernathy Region 3/Meade finished 4th-113 should be a 10th grader this year. Keegan Duncan Region 5/NorthOld finished 5th-120, should be a freshman this year. Corey Ahern Region 6/Ryle finished 3rd-132, should be a senior. Jonathan Green Region 7/Lafayette 7th-145, should be a 10th grader this year.

I would say 106 also, but if your looking to place in the top 8 then 220. It has Myers the only state placer in that weight from last year. Toughest weight class to place has to be 120, it has 8 state medal winners from last year; two of which were state champs.

I still think your best team ever in Ky has to be based off the total points a team scored in the state tournament. Cam Co. may very well be the best team ever this year, if they score over 257.5 points. South Oldham not only broke the record for most points scored but no one was within 72 points of them. I do think that if the 1997 Woodford team was in a 32 man bracket instead of the 16 they would have broke the 257.5. All these other teams that are being mention weren’t good enough to dominate the competition like these two did during their time and in my eyes that is what your better teams do; they don’t just win they own the competition.
