KHSAA needs to attend the spring coaches meeting to get this crap ironed out
-
I agree KHSAA needs to do things differently. Being a product of Indiana which tournaments are at same locations each year(sectionals, regionals, semi-state, state), we need to secure a permanent home for finals. Also I believe a 32 man bracket is nuts, needs to be a 16 man. Change the format leading to state. Have your districts with 4 advancing, then 4 regional sites where 4 advance, you can add something before districts like Indiana, a 4 tier process. Seeded brackets, first round Friday night, you have to win Friday to continue Saturday, you place 8 remaining wrestlers. If you want do wrestle backs that's fine, In Indiana only the losers in semi's wrestle for 3rd. Finals Saturday evening at 6pm. Done by 9 Info on why we cant secure Rupp or Yum center.....not "they wont do it".

Some kids prefer a singlet, so have to leave that as an option.

Constructive feedback on the Louisville location
RTRBURN replied to gameface's topic in Youth Wrestling
I think the tournament was greatly ran and organized. I had no issue with traffic but I got there early. Concessions. Too HIgh priced and long lines. Layout.. Like the arena feel. Take it back to Montgomery County if we don't find a place. if we could get Civic Center, Rupp, Yum Center, Fairgrounds A barrier around around the entire mats would have been nice. Coaches needing the passes seemed useless since everyone was mat side. I maybe would have done a "Bull Ring" and called wrestlers to that area for mat assignment with bout sheet, this would warrant as a pass to get mat access. Podiums need to be closer to Mat. Also do 70# class recognition between the 80 and 86 pound classes and so on. these are just opinions. -
Middle School State 2016 Potential Match Ups?
RTRBURN replied to gameface's topic in Youth Wrestling
98 will be fun to watch and also 70 -
Do you guys not understand that the #4 seed is equal to the #1 seed when its a blind draw for the rest of the guys? You just want bragging rights? #1 seed doesn't guarantee wrestling a lower seed like Districts

Any chance next year you could include what district/region everyone is and key win/loses like how Indianamat.com does theirs. I think you do an outstanding job would clear up a lot of who beat who. And lock the thread. -
Good deal. One less thing to worry about.

Back in the day we didn't have any growth allowance. It's not like Jan 1st comes and kids gain 2 pounds over night. I think it allows more kids bump down a weight.

Just hope they do a good job of plowing 9009 if they still have it. If worse case they cancel can we have it next week and push team duals to week after state? Is there a contingency plan in place?

I lived there for 8 years after living in Indiana for 30yrs and just moved to Frankfort 6 months ago. Glad to say I am back in the wrestling lifestyle. I tried to get a program started in BG...there was absolutely no interest. I tried all 5 of the schools in Warren county and the Parks and Rec. The Park and Rec said they would rent me a space, but no mats. Football and Baseball is big Business in BG, if you do anything to that may take numbers away from those programs you will not get any sort of support. Good luck. Clarksville TN, Owensboro ,Ratcliff and Etown is going to be your closest wrestling programs.

If I was a football coach I would push a wrestling team at my school...what are all the boys that don't play basketball gonna do for the next 8 months. Wrestling...keep them in shape for the next 6. Not to mention the skills and discipline you only get from wrestling.

Closest thing to BG would be Beaver Dam, they have a wrestling club, and so does Ratcliff. Clarksville TN has one also but that's an 1.5hr drive. I reached out 8 years ago when we moved to BG from Indiana. I coached a youth program of about 30 kids and had 4 sons of my own. Was disappointed when I called the AD's in the area about interest. No interest at all. Could not secure a spot other then at a gym at a ball park east of town but it was owned by park and rec and if they couldn't make money off of us using it for practice then they was not interested, wasn't big enough to hold a tournament. I am in the process of moving to Georgetown and surrounding areas since taking a position at Toyota. The younger boys are excited because they can get back into wrestling. Hopefully I can help with a team or club to get back into it. I did notice, Kentucky doesn't do much week day meets. Is there a reason why? I'm use to 2 days a week and Saturday tournaments in Indiana.

My family moved to Bowling Green a year ago and was pretty shocked that there was no wrestling program at any of the area high schools. What happened? I coached a youth club back in Indiana and my 4 stepsons wrestled also and it's killing them that there is not a wrestling program around Bowling Green. I have emailed the AD at the high school where the boys will attend in the future and hope to hear back from him. I would love to get the program back up and running if given the chance. Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

That's my plan, but I'm pretty sure you have to be a licensed teacher to be a head coach at the High School level...I've seen where a teacher who nothing about wrestling applied for head coach but his assistant was really the head coach. The school/school board has to be willing to start the program back up, see if funds are available to purchase wrestling mats and equipment, let alone a wrestling room.
