    Eligibility questions

Oh I guess I misunderstood your first post when you said "I know for a fact that some Louisville area schools have hold backs on their team". I thought I guess that meant you really did know and wasn't just saying it, but OK. Don't get upset if it was true, just state that others have done it as well but don't state for "a fact" that others have that you know when you really don't. It is stupid to hold someone back for just sports, especially for wrestling in KY, one more year won't make a huge difference.

    Eligibility questions

I will grant it that i don't keep up a whole lot with middle school wrestling, but I have been coaching in Jefferson County for 15 years now and dont' know of any kids that have been held back in middle school to repeat a year. Not saying that it hasn't been done, but I don't know of any and haven't had any other coaches say it either. Moore is the only school in Jefferson county that has a middle school with the high school and we never have, but havent' heard of any others doing it either. i would be interested to hear about this one, do you have any ideas or are you just trying to repute the statement for Sheldon Clark? Just wondering.
  3. I thought it was a KHSAA rule. Private schools don't have a middle school feeder for the kids to go to so there is no way for them to wrestle for the high school. You have to live in the district for the middle school that feeds into the high school, at least here in Jefferson County. However it doesn't seem to always work out that way......But they are allowed to wrestle for the middle school programs (clubs) and then wrestle when they get to high school. The recruiting thing isn't getting kids from Catholic Grade schools to the Catholic High school, more so the ones going from public middle schools to catholic high schools.
  4. No he didn't...shawn 250 jump lunges...
  5. yea but how many dozens of others have you lost to that you shouldn't have since then. And i don't think it was him honestly, unless it was his first day then..
  6. The rankings for the coaches association are not taken any more serious than the ones done by ranger. The coaches association rankings have notoriously been biased towards an individual team or group of teams or area more than the rest of the state. And those rankings weren't done by a KHSAA official either with way less input than what the rankings from Ranger get, the coaches association is a separate entity and the KHSAA doesn't back the rankings from either one. It has been that way for 20+ years now. What is the website for the coaches association poll? I can't seem to find it right now.

    smack the mat

Yea, that was a defensive pin. I think maybe what c4p_offman was referring to was more in the situation of someone trying a peterson and then the ref counting back points before he gave the signal for a reversal. The defensive man can get a pin but cannot get any nearfall until after a change of control has taken place. I think much of the yelling at the refs is more because if you say something afterwards it loses it's effect as the situation is over and it's not like you can call a timeout and explain it to them right there in the middle of the match. Hopefully they will just continue to keep doing it year after year and continue to get better.

    Warra to Fairdale?

There is no senior preference that's ridiculous. If a student moves into the district of another school they are allowed to participate in extra curricular activities after all the paperwork is done. If they decide to just switch schools and are granted to do so then they have to sit out a year before participating.

    Warra to Fairdale?

I would say if it's true he would still go to Seneca, I would assume he would find his own transportation to the school as it's his senior year there.

    A REFEREE QUESTION

If the team that gets the choice chooses even, their wrestlers are "supposed" to report first to the scorers table on the even number matches, 2,4,6 etc. If they chose odd then they would report first on the odd numbered, 1, 3, 5 etc. More often than not it doesn't happen like that and it's just a random who gets there first type thing and usually only used as determining whose choice it is in the second period. Hope that helps.

    smack the mat

Its actually a two count. Sometimes you will see a better more experienced ref raise their hand 6 inches off the mat and that is the first second, then if the second second is there they blow the whistle and slap the mat. There should not be a wait until after the 5 count as that is for back points with shoulder blades exposed at a 45* angle or inches off the mat if bridging.

i was surfing youtube and saw...

It also happend to a kid from Seneca last year at the JV regionals. I don't know for sure if he broke both arms...but looking at how his arm was shaped like a banana I would have to say that it did. I heard back from their coach about a week later and he said he was doing good all things considered, but i wonder if he came back out this year???
  15. It was just at a scrimmage not an actual match so nothing was ever said about any of the results.
  16. No he didn't and if he did i don't think he would understand why there were three people wrestling.....best thing to do is smile and nod your head.
  17. I think you should forward the information to him that you get and see what he comes up with as well...it would probably be funny at least.

    Moore Looking for Coaches

Anyone interested? Still not too late, season is close and would be good to have another, especially for middle school.

How To Be Come A Ref

Contact Julian Tackett at KHSAA, have send in a registration fee to become a ref and they send you a book and you take the test online. Then they send you back a piece of paper that says if you can ref post season or not, meanwhile you get a smaller piece of paper in the mail with your name on it and your ref #....bam you are official....

    Getting practice as a referee

Good idea, and be sure to ask about scrimmages too. Just about every team uses their two scrimmages so that's a lot of matches going on a few weeks before actual matches start.

    Bluegrass Challenge?

Obviously the bold truth with some sort of constructive criticism and not "garbage"talking or such. I too have a bad back and it kills me every Saturday when I sit there for 12 hours on Saturday on bleachers waiting for my kids to wrestle for the 5 mintues then go sit back down again, but I continue to do it. Maybe that is a possibility to have young kids come in early and register and wrestle and then have the older kids come back in the afternoon and register then and wrestle. I wrestled some BGSG back in the late 80's and early 90's and I believe we did that one year and I was in two weight classes and wrestled 3 back to back matches because of it, so that might happen again if it gets split up. Maybe its a possibility but instead of putting down people and comparing everything to OHIO and saying everyone in Ky is terrible and doesn't know how to run a tournament maybe those comments right there should have been the first post. This last post I think was the most effective and straight to the point without any negativity directed towards anyone. If I didn't know any better I would think that you are one of my bosses, being negative and dirogatory towards others :-).

    Bluegrass Challenge?

I can bet right now there will be one session...without knowing what people are going to be there and at what weight class and age group until that morning how are you going to have two sessions. Unless everyone comes to register and weigh in then come back 7 hours later...that's not practical either for people to drive there and back. I don't like waiting for hours to have a first match and have done it before and will probably again. It would be nice if it was quicker or done differently but to just get on here and whine like the two had makes no sense or is not costructive in any way. If you haven't ever run a tournament or helped run a tournament then it's easy to sit off to the side and on your soap box and banter. I never saw now nor in the past either coach mccoy or mathound get on here and make a post for people to praise and applaud them for their efforts.

    Bluegrass Challenge?

The first part of teaching has to come from the home and honestly now a days that isn't happening and so it's falling like you say on the coaches and teachers to do that...when it isn't up to them. If the dead line was made and there were 30 wrestlers there you would hear so many negative comments on how the tournament was low and no participants and others saying how it was unfair they weren't allowed to register the day of the tournament, etc. I am sure you would be on here whining about something then too. Parents and grandparents sit on bleachers to see kids because they love them and want to support them (for those few that do) and good for them I applaud them too and if that is the worst thing you have to do to support your kids you have a great time and very little to ask. Mccoy and mathound don't ask for applaud or expect applaud, they just want kids to come out and wrestle and the parents to support them as well. I wasn't at this years but for the past 10 or so I have seen I would be willing to bet that more than half of the high school aged kids didn't have any parents in the stands to watch them, which is higher than at high school events as I would say that is more like 75% of parents don't come. They don't expect praise and don't really care about your bashing them either but they continue to support wrestling year after year and i am sure they will well after you are (thankfully)gone as well as hundreds of others..

    Bluegrass Challenge?

For 3/4 nelson and pinned em all....I am sure coach mccoy would be more than happy to accept your help for next years tournament and see if you have any positive input to make it run smoother and easier. He can be contacted directly by you and you can volunteer your time as he and thousands of others have to make tournaments go. This has to be the hardest tournament in the state to run due to the type it is. A high school tournament you basically know 99% of the kids that are going to be there and their weight etc. This tournament is usually a guess until after everyone registers and weighs in....you just don't know. Kids (and adults, forgot that) can wrestle in two age and weight classes and so that makes it hard to do as well. Staggering the times for them would make it difficult for them as well because they would have to be there for both and wouldn't leave...there isn't a great solution to this unless you get 100 more participants for it and only let them wrestle in one age and weight group and require everyone to be preregistered or don't wrestle...but that won't happen. Did both of your kids pre-register prior to the event, if you did good, if not why? You just added to the hassle of taking care of it. I think Mccoy does a great job for an off season event and devotes alot of time to it. As far as the concession stand comments go that's just being a baby. That's the only way to get money and everyone knows it so quite crying. Unless you want to come and be a referee and do it for free with 3 of your buddies so the entrant fee doesn't go towards paying them and then the concessions can be dropped down. Or maybe you can run the tournament and we can hold it at your school and see how well you do..that would be the ultimate option and see how you cope with it. My thoughts would be you couldn't handle it...I would bet on that.
