I heard Austin Conner was at 171 at the last tourney. THat should break up the 189 and add to the competition at 171 for the regional tournament. -
Yeah, the state draw can be kind or ugly, If Mitch and John meet before the finals, the finals match may not be that exciting. Hope it works out.

What was the Carr Bradbury match like. Could Myron not take Jarvis down? Was it a controlled match? Wish I could have seen it. Both exciting wrestlers to watch.

He may have lost one in state match, but i would say no more than that. I look for him to turn some heads this year. Not a state champion, but could put up a win or two at the state level. -
I cant believe all the negative talk about dc evans. I thought he looked about untouchable last year at the state tournament. I mean come on he wrestled with Travis Sullivan. THat kid is as tough as nails. Cant wait to see who surprises everyone at state. There is always one unknown that comes out of the wood works.

Alex Higgins at 160 lbs from Henderson County has only lost three times this year. He is a freshman. His defeats come from opponents in Tennessee. He placed at middle school state last year. May be worth a look for the 160 lbs rankings. -
So who are the top two teams in each region that will be attending state duals. Only list teams that won the regional dual and those that are actually going to state duals.....

hwt surprises in western kentucky Heavyweight seems to be changing quite regularly as of late in region I Tanner Flynn Cald. was beating nearly everyone along with Croney from Chr. Then Zack Pearson beat Chroney at the Hopkinsville Tournament. Then Croney came back and won the the Christian County tournament. Rhinestine FtCam finished third just atop Pearson at Christian County. Flynn did not place. Calloway County beat Flynn out of the tournament. Talk about a shuffle in rankings. Lets see what happens....... -
What JV wrestlers look good this season?
colonelcoach2007 replied to Wildblueeyes's topic in 2008 Season
Henderson JV 103 Corey Roberts should be pretty tough at Middle School state. He hangs or beats alot of varsity wrestlers. Only weighs 96 lbs. Will be a solid 103 varsity next year. -
DC is an explosive wrestler. I saw Parks almost get beat by a freshman at state last year......DC will give Parks all he can handle and then some. iN my opinion

That was a while back. SOmeone showed me the gleaner article. They might have got the info wrong. Not trying to start a fight, just explaining why Henderson didnt count scottie -
so how do we get all of these refs to undergo offseason training to remain certified. I think Julian should address this. We should bring it to his attention at a meeting or during the offseason. Probably would have to be addressed in the offseason to flow into the wrestling season right.

I dont know how it went down in the books, but I was told Union County was a scrimmage, and I believed that statement when I saw Luke -
Just because a geographical location does not have many teams, does not mean that they should get a free ride to state. The only fair thing to do is to get them as even as possible without being impracticle on the length of travel. I liked the district region and state format. It seemed that there were alot more quality first round state matches. But wrestling is growing popularity this way. Even the regions out even if you have to change a few. That is the only sensible thing to do. We already took away the district tournament. Might as well make things balanced across the state as well. Just my opinion :-D

didnt go to that match, but I heard it was really close....

In western KY the majority of referees have a slow way of hitting a guy for stalling. In practice we make the guys work and tell our wrestlers to go forward. If a wrestler is constantly being pushed back and does not at least circle, then he is stalling. Then when these western Kentucky kids get to state, they get burned for stalling when they take a step back. We do need consistency. Back points are very inconsistent and the calling of takedowns until you get to the refs at state. You see new refs pop up all the time. I have done my share of reffing. It is not easy, when you recieve little to no training. The test is nice, but I agree the training videos and meetings with a senior ref would be a great start. I AGREE totally with the two toes in rule for a takedown. I cant begin to tell you how many times I see a kid takedown a wrestler and drag their toes to keep them in bounds. We teach that, and then when the kid does not receive the takedown, they are really down. There was one middle school boy this year who put a double chicken wing locked at the middle of the back. The kid was getting ready to turn his opponent and the ref stopped the match saying that he had to have it locked either to the right or left side. Ive never heard of that......Could be wrong but I dont think so.... A lot of work. Dont think that the refs are trying to make bad calls, they just need uniform training methods. Consistency is key.

Neil Reburn i believe....It was close...

That is true...Tanner Flynn beat Zack Pearson by pin fall twice this year. I think Flynn beat the Paducah Tilghman kid in the finals. *Isnt Jake Skinner wrestling 135, he beat Bryce Alexander at the Caldwell COunty tournament. Is he dropping to 130? Who is wrestling 152 for UNion County? I heard Jarvis is going to be down to 103 soon. Is Isaac Thomas wrestling 112 for the rest of the year? Him and Dee Leveal should have a good match in the regional finals. What about 140 and 145 for Union County? *125 is looking like a beast of a weight class.... When is Union going to wrestle Hopkinsville. I know Dionte and Hoptowns 189 should be a good match.... Austin Conner from UHA should be much tougher when he gets down to 171. Didnt expect to see Elliot Martin ranked third at this point. He is a tough kid, and DC Evans has slipped a bit. I only saw him in the state finals against Sullivan, but man he was tough. I believe if he didnt get cute and try to pin Sullivan, there may have been a different outcome. Sullivan will most likely capture the record this year. Man that kid is tough as nails. I watched him wrestle Adam Carr, when Carr was dominating 103. Well were that much closer to the new year. Regional and state time should be very exciting. Another note for Henderson.....Hwt zack pearson is a junior, and Brandon Brack 140 is a senior. Just when you want to put the class beside them next time. Thanks Ranger, You definately have a better grasp than the Kentucky wrestling coaches association site. Keep up the good work.... -
Henderson County has one undefeated wrestler: Chris Merriwether at 103lbs. Should be around 16-0 now.
