  1. Region I is coming up....Three teams in the top 25!!!!!!!! 2. Union County 18. Christian County 23. Henderson County Keep it up guys. Lets get some more teams up there. When competition rises in the region, you will see more results at the state meet, where it matters
  2. I was looking back at some results at the Armstrong Classic and Joe Rupp placed 6th behind both Corey Robards of Henderson County, and Wade Willen of UHA. Neither of these kids are ranked at 103lbs....Did Rupp do something at state or emerge later in the season....Not challenging any assumptions...Just dont remember him that

    DC EVANS

I was for one let down about the DC Evans incident. I thought he did a great job last year, and if he didnt go for the pin in the finals against Sullivan last year, he would have probably won that match. He moved up to the hardest weight class bar none. Wempe is a tough kid, and I have to commend him for being a good sportsman after the incident. I think DC felt like he needed to prove himself this year, and things just went wrong. Coaches need to really preach winning and losing with dignity. i remember when I wrestled, if you lost, you just sucked it up. The kid was better than you on that particular day. There seemed to be a lot more respect for one another. Maybe I just didnt look for it the way I do now as a coach. But wrestling is one of the most emotional sports I have ever participated in or viewed. It is tough, and unforgiving in some sences, but it gives you a great deal of pride and integrity...Help bring Integrity back to high school wrestling, and it will last forever.

    State tourney Hair do

I saw a few different things done this year. What does everyone think...Every year Woodford goes blonde....The mo-hawks in my opinion look BAD! I saw some hair color of various shades....Meade County went green...Whats going to be new for next year...>Lets get some new ideas out there. At least if you support the mo hawk, pay 12 bucks to get it done, dont do it yourself...It can look horrible if you slip up...lol

    National Rankings and Kentucky?????

Your telling me Joe Carr Jr. and Isaac knable were not all class ranked...Wow...Thats a shock....I know Knable wrestled for IU, or so I have been told, and Carr wrestled in D-1... If Mitch wants to wrestle in college, Im sure he would do really well. I talked to an old wrestler who was doing some scouting for an NAIA school, and said that Mitch was good enough, probably too good for their school, and was not exceptionally thrilled with Reid.... But best of luck to all those kids who are representing KY well. We need more D-1 wrestlers. Heard Michigan St. was looking at some top tier KY wrestlers. That is awesome.

    Stalling - Wrestling

Well said, Refs should not be remembered for causing a boy to win or lose. They are there to keep score, maintain order and keep things fair. Stalling is a heated debate, but should not be used in vain, You can tell when a kid is just hanging on to win a match by a point or two.... Good message to send to referees. Its not the coaches, refs, etc. that matters...The kids are the reason we put our time in to this great sport. Hopefully everyone puts as much as they can into wrestling while competing, but when you step back in to help and further the sport, remember your time has passed, DO IT FOR THE KIDS.

No just some consistent calls not just at state (while that would be nice) but all year long. 8-)

Best or Favorite Upsets this Year

Zach Pearson, an unranked heavyweight or very low at the time beating a high ranked Houston Croney early in the season. One of his best matches all year....I liked watching Wempe beat Bontrager at state, I LOVED watching Miller get beat up by the Eastern Kid, what an athlete....just a few that come to mind 8-)

    103 2009

Ive seen this Parks post about a hundrend times now....Nobody is disputing it. I dont think Shane would dispute it. I totally agree with it. I think its funny that no woodford county people are even trying to act like he was wrestling. But I guess the refs just thought he was working offensively.....lol Parks was stalling like a 91 dodge shadow in 15 degree weather. He wasnt going anywhere.. He

How bad were the refs this year

Dang Fireplug, looks like he (the blackballed ref) was just stating the obvious. Yeah my main complaint with Walls in Region I was the takedown going out of bounds thing, and the tapout. We teach kids if they initiate a move in bounds and are going out to drag their feet. He did better at that at state in my opinion. Didnt see the match everyone is talking about, so I cant comment.

    Trinity 3rd Place?

Trinity should have been given third place regardless of the math. Did you see the widespread stalling of Woodford. I know everyone in the crowd saw it during the Shane Parks finals match. Trinity

How bad were the refs this year

His father, Mickey, the former coach for Caldwell County, is about as good as they come. You will not shake him, and he only sees to colors (red and green) when he is out there. Cody did an okay job at state. A lot better as he has gained experience. Maybe this goes to show that western KY can produce good refs. Maybe we should employ more refs from places other than louisville.

    103 2009

Meriwether is a good little wrestler, he just had problems with the short stalkier wrestlers. He may have been the tallest three pounder at state. He will do better at 112 pounds. When a wrestler cuts too much weight (not saying he did) to make it down to 103 pounds they lose a lot of muscle. They are not as sharp. Merriwether will make a good 112 pounder. Not to mention, he beat the woodford kid earlier in the year. He got down by a couple points because he was aggressive in the first period with the woodford kid at state this year. When Meriwether was on top in the third period, the woodford kid turtled up and stalled the whole last two minutes. Hard to score when your opponent wont open up. :-) Another downfall of inconsistent stalling calls.

How bad were the refs this year

I have learned to have somewhat of a respect for referees, as I have reffed a few middle school tournaments here and there, but the inconsistent display of officiating at the state tournament was garbage. Making a wrestler fall into a worse position rather than sprawling when someone shoots by the out of bounds line is rediculous. The stalling calls were so inconsistent from the regular season. I was okay with that. Okay, I told my team, you have to wrestle the way the refs are calling matches. But after the first day, it seemed some of the refs started shying away from the stalling calls, but hitting certain wrestlers. Shane Parks was the best example. The whole third period was a grand display of not wrestling. If you stall the whole final period, sure it will be hard for someone to score on you. The whole crowd held up the stalling signal, but still no call. I believe I heard someone in the woodford crowd call for stalling in a match that followed. Give me a break. I saw kids get hit for stalling in on single legs, trying to bring a wrestler back to the mat after a standup, and working halfs on the first round. What about riding legs. I understand if a kid keeps throwing them in and does a half effort powerhalf and keeps letting the guy stand with him in the air just to stop the match, but come on. I saw guys trying to work pinning combinations and they were stopped after a very short opportunity. I love the stalling rule, it encourages great matches full of action, but when it is not called fairly and consistently it is detrimental to the integrity of the sport. In the coaches meeting, I was told that there was a big pep talk to all of the refs on stalling. Lets just make it fair guys. Call it consistent throughout the tournament, each day and EVERY MATCH!
