Biggest dissapointments of the state tournament

I thought Zeppa would place for sure, if not make it to the finals. Coty Lewis getting beat in 1st round, and then losing again. Ryan Dillon not placing.

Facts on 32 man bracket at state

The 2nd paragraph in my previous quote was supposed to be dripping with sarcasm, but obviously failed miserably.

Facts on 32 man bracket at state

I agree that the days are too long, so move the tournament to a facility that can accommodate 6 or 8 mats instead of 4. Wrestlers, coaches, parents, spectators and others should not have to wait until 11 pm or later until the last match on Thursday and Friday. As far as the 32 man bracket being watered down, I agree. Let's make the NCAA Basketball tournament only 16 teams, the NFL playoffs only 2 teams, and go back to old MLB standard of no playoffs. That is much more exciting. No one wants to see an upset (4Denlein vs. 1Woods) on the wrestling mat. It never happens. 4 seeds or 3 seeds can't possibly place. Let's use Ranger's rankings (no offense) to seed the wrestlers, (like the BCS) and don't even have a tournament, and let 1 vs. 2 wrestle. PROBLEM SOLVED!

    Spell Check

When I type a post, and I misspell a word, a red underline appears underneath it. I can right click on the word, then it gives me various other spellings. Doesn't anybody else have that feature? It might be because I'm using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.

    Regional Alternates?

That's awesome. Nice to hear about someone taking advantage of an opportunity given to them, and doing their best with it.

    Regional Alternates?

Does any team bring their alternates with them? I think it was last year, when some heavyweight was messing around on the fountain outside on the plaza, and sprained his ankle and couldn't wrestle. Also, Cooper at 152lbs (ranked #1 in the state at the time) hurt his knee regional weekend and couldn't wrestle at the state tournament. Did the alternates get to wrestle in these cases? What's the point of having alternates if they never get to wrestle? What if a state qualifier gets sick or hurt? Does the coach of that team have to notify the coach of the alternate before the state meet? Have alternates ever made the tournament and had any kind of impact? Just a topic of discussion for some of the alternates out there. If you're lucky, you may get to wrestle!

Matt Neal from SK DQ'd from regional

Speaking of reffing, I had to referee the Cincinnati Youth Wrestling tournament today. I am not an official ref, just a dad and coach of a high school and youth wrestler. Every team in the Cincinnati/Northern KY area has to run a table for the Citywide tournament. These kids are 9 and 10 years old, but you would think that the way some people act, that it was the high school state finals. I do not envy the refs at all. It is a thankless job. Referees aren't perfect. They are going to miss some calls. They do not have the benefit of instant replay. A lot of wrestling scoring is judgment calls. Some refs call it different than other refs. That's the breaks. If you have a call that could go either way, then some team is going to gripe. I had 2 matches today that I was verbally abused. Until you actually ref a match, you don't know how difficult it is. This is my 4th year of reffing at Citywide, and I will continue to do it until my youngest son is in middle school. The next time you want to argue a call, put yourself in the refs position.

Matt Neal from SK DQ'd from regional

I was there, and Brownfield should have been called for stalling. But so what? How many takedowns are never called? How many reversals are controversial? Quick pins? Out of bounds? If everyone argued every single "iffy" call, then we could never have a winner in a wrestling match. I do feel sorry for Neal, but he brought this on himself.
  11. 2nd round of Regional, Matt Neal lost a close match to Brownfield of Campbell Co, and said to the ref "Don't you have the balls to call stalling?" and was DQ'd from tournament. Just a warning to everybody, to watch your mouth and let your coach handle the ref. Ranked 3rd in state, and not going down because of something he said.
  12. This might be a total waste of time, (took me about 2 hours on Friday night) since Ranger has the rankings in Excel already, but I separated each cell by rank, team, name, and grade. That way you can arrange the data any way you want (assuming you know how to use the basic functions of Excel). If anybody is interested in this file, just email me at steve@cciky.com and I will email you a copy. I will try to keep this up to date each week. If Ranger already has an Excel file like this, then just ignore this. Also, Ranger, when you post the rankings next week could you have another column for the region? I will add that as a column in my Excel spreadsheet. I would like to arrange by region in Excel. Again, if you already have it in this format, just ignore this. Also, can I insert Excel spreadsheets to posts like you do the rankings? There was no icon for it when I posted this.
