Why not call it the Freshman/Sophomore State Tournament. State Qualifiers would not be allowed.

I agree with anklepick. It will be hard for some teams with limited coaches in there program to get matches. We don't have that problem. But we aren't talking about what is best for my program we are talking about what is best for the kids of the state as a whole. How about restricting kids that wrestle in the MS region and state from competing in the ES region and state. On the same note that would only need to be in place until the states program has built to a point where there are ample opportunities for all skill leveled wrestlers. my 2 cents

Ryle 1st McCreary 2nd SouOld 3rd 4th is up for grabs. Would be a close tournament team wise if it went by a teams best 15 or 20 wrestlers. As it is numbers make you a ringer. The other way Fern Creek, Camp. Co., Conner, Cynthia, NoOx, Wayne Co., River City, or Sky would have a chance. As it is these teams are wrestling for 4th. Almost 350 entries is outstanding. The future of wrestling in Kentucky looks good.

So now we have three tournaments on the 24th.

Does 7th grade 12 year olds get to go. I'm trying to point out previous year problems where some kids that were above 6th grade competed in the Elem State tournament. It was only required that they be below a certain age not grade. Don't get me wrong I'm in favor of the USA format of 2yr blocks of age groups but pick one or the other. It would need to be called a youth state tournament. If it is going to be a Elem State tournament it needs to be restricted to K-6 graders.

No the state for the most part has unified from what I can tell. My referencing the few that haven't would have implied you and a few from that one program. One program that won't get on board. I don't agree with everything. None of us ever will. But by working together we will build and end up with a quality program. Not everyone agrees with the middle school organization but through it all and everyone going in the same direction we have built a quality program. There aren't many states out there that have a true MS state tournament. This is a big accomplishment for Kentucky as Kentucky isn't exactly a mecca for wrestling. We are on the cusp of building a similar quality organization for the elementary kids. We can continue to work at this without JC but it sure would be nice if we had your input.

I don't see why he wouldn't be able to. As long as you have a Kentucky mailing address. Your new place of residence would be your temporary living arrangements. Where will you be moving to in Kentucky.

On the plus side. While going through all of this it seems that ALMOST all of us are on the same page. I have a lot of hope now for the future of the youth program in Kentucky. It has been a headache but things are looking up. Thanks to all the active and proactive people getting things going in the right direction.

I've been to some tournaments that handed out a best match trophy. This would be great and rewards what people appreciate most (a good match) The 165lb final match would have won it hands down. The ones I've seen were applauded more than the MOW award.

89 is such a tough weight class this year. Those are just the guys that impressed me this year when we wrestled them and some that I've heard about. It's hard to say who will pull it out. I don't think anyone is undefeated. Does anyone know if any of these guys are undefeated?

stanmms, I agree with you on the medals part. It would be nice if we could have all the kids go home with something but that is more in-line with how invitationals should be run rather than state tournaments. On the team competition if it goes to the team with the most kids it will always go to them same few teams making the entire team competition pointless. The only teams that get rewarded are ones with high numbers not quality wrestlers. Not saying those teams don't have quality. If we do it the same way as always no one will pay any attention to it and really the only ones that should enter the team competition would be 3 or 4 teams.

How will the team awards be decided. Will it be total points for all kids on the team or will it be point of your best 10 or 15 kids named as scorers at the beginning of the tournament. I really dislike the total for all the kids on the team. It doesn't allow any other teams other than the ones that always win it to have a chance. McCreary will be #1 and Larue will be #2. If we wanted to encourage Quantity and Quality we could give a team point for each wrestler entered on top of the finish points for your best 10 or 15 kids.

How about having a President of KWSA with a director of Middle School and a director of Elementary School. This would keep the two separate so they don't bog down one another.
