    Big Ten Championships!!

That's a really good breakdown. Mine won't be as in-depth, but I'll go ahead and post my predictions. 125- McDonough, Precin, Sanders, Pataky I see McD keeping it close in the first two minutes, and then winning in the 3rd period like Iowa always does. Sanders hasn't wrestled good enough all year to be in the finals with these two. 133- Graff, Ramos, Futrell, Long, Thorn Ramos doesn't have the strength to beat Graff, although it will be close. I have seen Futrell wrestle a couple times and am really sold on him. Long has been inconsistent all year, which will hurt him here. 141- Marion, Russell, Kennedy, Thorn, Alton A stacked weight class which could have the 4 semifinalists at the NCAA's as well. Marion knows how to get the job done in the postseason and Alton has slowly declined as of late. 149- Molinaro, Kinser, Nadhir, Schmitt, Ballweg, Osterman Kinser has been in the top 15 for a couple of years and I think he will finally breakthrough this year. Molinaro is strong as an ox, and Ballweg may sneak up on some people. 157- Taylor, St. John, Welch, Young, Zeerip Taylor is my pick to be national champ, he is looking pretty good this year. St. John and Welch are both tough and pose the biggest threat to Taylor, but he is just too good. 165- Howe, Sponseller, Janssen, Yohn Sponseller has always been near the top, and his finals match with Howe will be closer than the experts think. I see Howe looking past him to Burroughs 2 weeks later, but Sponseller won't have enough to trip him up. 174- Blanton, Ruth, Lofthouse, Glasser, Zeerip, Jordan, Heflin My upset pick is Blanton over Ruth. Blanton has been injured part of the year, but has enough to beat the young Ruth. Lofthouse and Glasser is a toss up for 3rd, and Zeerip may finish higher than expected. 184- Rutt, Gambrall, Steinhouse, Wright Like jpizar said, this is an open weight class. Any of the top 3 have a legitimate shot of winning. Wright has shown peeks of promise all year, but has never been able to emerge. 197- Brandvold, Lofthouse, Biondo, Yohn, Powless, Brown This will be one of the most exciting weight classes. Brandvold will have to fight his way to the top, and Biondo will raise a few eyebrows. Yohn's knee got injured agains Lofthouse Sunday, and I see that hindering him a bit. 285- Wade, Bugenhagen, Alcala, Rasing, Nelson, Apland I don't know much about the big guys other than Wade has been the top dog all year. Teams- Iowa, Penn State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern Brands and the Hawks come alive, with Penn State's inexperience getting the best of them. Watch out for Illinois and Michigan, they could get a few upsets and be up there too.

    Championship Celebration

If anyone has ever watched the NCAA finals, you will see that these 21 and 22 year old young men celebrate just like Myron did, some even a little more and no one ever calls them classless or bad sports. After you have just won state, or even nationals, you aren't thinking about what you are doing, it is just pure emotion. That being said, I do think the celebration can wait until after you have shook the other kid's hand and congratulated him. I hate seeing the winner celebrate while the loser lays on the mat, obviously dissapointed.

    2010 State Brackets

Here are the brackets with the losers brackets for each weight class. Sorry if it is hard to read. Let me know if there are any mistakes.

    fahy in indiana?

Silver was pretty small compared to Brascetta. You could really tell the weight difference was getting to him in the third period. I thought the takedown at the end shouldn't have been awarded and it should have gone into overtime. Just my opinion, though

    region 2

The brackets with 9 wrestlers will have one first round match and three byes. The seed meeting will be Sunday, so we will have the brackets after then.

    STATE DUALS CANCELLED

To put in perspective how big this tournament was and how much of a shame it was to cancel it: Mallory Ervin will be competing in Miss America 2010 tomorrow at 8:00, and where was Union County planning on being? In Lexington trying to win a state championship.

    KHSAA State Tournament

While there are some things that could be better, I like the tradition of having the state tournament in Frankfort. I have been going there since I was 5 years old and couldn't imagine it being anywhere else. Although the early rounds can get pretty boring, I love the time after the medal rounds while they are setting up for finals. It feels like a party with everyone putting on their body paint and the beach balls and balloons bouncing around and everyone dancing and singing. One thing I think they should do differently is have just those who medaled do the march before finals, not everyone who qualifies at the beginning of the tournament. There are too many wrestlers crowded on the mats. Other than that, I love the way the tournament is.
  10. I was watching this sunday night and the whole time i was watching it I was like Wow. ESPN did a great job with this story.

    NCAA Predictions

125: Nickerson, Cornell vs. Donahoe, Edinboro WC: Escobedo, Ind. Nickerson looks huge for 125 and is the best wrestler in this weight class, but anything can happen and Donahoe wasn't expected to win it 2 years ago. Escobedo knows what it takes to win, but must wrestle better than he did last year and Nationals. 133: Dennis, Iowa vs. Kennedy, Illinois WC: Gomez, MSU; Hochstrausser, Boise St. This weight class has about 15 wrestlers who have a legitimate shot at winning, so it will be whoever wants it more. Gomez, Kennedy, and Dennis will have all seen each other at the Big Tens, so it will be interesting who wins at both tournaments. Hochstrausser has really impressed me lately and will be a dark horse in this weight class. 141: Tanelli, Wisconsin vs. Tsirtsis, Iowa WC: Jantzen, Harv.; Jaggers, Ohio St. Tanelli has looked unstoppable since the Midlands, but Tsirtsis is tough. It will be fun to see how Jantzen will perform wrestling the best competition he has all year and you can't count Jaggers out being as in he was the 6 seed last year and won it all. This is a tough weight class to predict. 149: Metcalf, Iowa vs. Caldwell, NC St. WC: Ruschell, Wisc. Should be a fun race for second. Caldwell looked good last year at nationals until he lost to Jenkins, but I think he can make finals this year. Like everyone else on this website I am biased on Ruschell, but he can make some noise if he wrestles better than he has the past 2 years. 157: Burroughs, Nebraska vs. Leen, Cornell WC: Poeta, Ill.; Hall, Boise St. Burroughs will be tough to beat because he is powerful and explosive, and long and flexible at the same time. Leen looked good at National Duals, Poeta is always good and look out for Hall. Gillespie hasn't impressed me this year, so I don't think he will be in the mix. 165: Reader, Iowa St. vs. Morningstar, Iowa WC: Lewnes, Cornell; Dwyer, Neb. Look for the upsets in this weight class. Morningstar has been flying under the radar and Reader shows up for the big dance. Lewnes will get upset, but Dwyer has been looking good. Also watch out for Moza Fay from N. Iowa. This weight class is like 133- wide open. 174: Luke, Michigan vs. Jordan, Missouri WC: Cannon, Amer.; Borschel, Iowa Luke has been waiting forever for his chance to come in number one, and he will take advantage of his opportunity. Jordan is built like Burroughs and can make a run. Borschel had a good showing last year and American is known for producing good upper-weights. 184: Herbert, Northwestern vs. Pucillo, Ohio St. WC: Keddy, Iowa Both finalists will have a clear shot to the finals, but when they get there it will be a dog fight. A lot will be determined the week before in the Conference tourney, but I think Herbert will get this one. Keddy is the only person with a slight chance of pulling an upset. 197: Varner, Iowa St. vs. Herbst, Wisconsin WC: Askren, Missouri Varner will win hands down IMO so the fight is for 2nd in this weight class. Herbst is getting better as the year goes on, and if Askren can finally show up for the NCAA tourney, he could be in the finals. 285: Zabriskie, Iowa St. vs. Rosholt, Okla. St. WC: Ellis, Missouri; Massey, Wisc. Rosholt will come to wrestle and Zabriskie has what it takes to get to finals. Close match, and it could be the team championship deciding match. Ellis, being ranked 1st is definitely a wild card and Massey can make a run at the title. 1: Iowa 2: Iowa St. 3: Cornell 4: Wisconsin 5: Missouri Hodge: Metcalf, Iowa Closest team race in a long time, and should be a really fun tournament to watch.

North Oldham 5th annual Mustang Classic- 20 teams

Fahy was with his brother at the Middle School State yesterday.

    Wedding

Canter won state last year at 89 and Wedding won at 82. Since 89 is closer to 103, Canter got the higher seed. I don't know why you all are complaining about this, Wedding beat Willen and Canter, so it doesn't matter what seed he got, all that matters is that he won and has the one seed for the state tournament.
  14. LChawk12

region 1 - top wrestlers in each weight class

Canter got the 1 seed because he won state at 89 last year and Wedding was 82 and 89 is closer to 103. Wedding beat Canter 6-5 in the finals, good match. The Wedding-Willen was very intense with Willen leading by one i think with 15 seconds left and Wedding reversed him and put him on his back. lb171- Hines couldn't make 82 and it was a smart move, 82 was much harder yesterday
