  1. Reading earlier on another post, the question was asked about members of the wrestling community in the KHSAA Hall of Fame.  This should have a thread by itself.  I’ll post this for my friend Jim.

JIM MATNEY (Coach / Johnson Central and Sheldon Clark) – The late Jim Matney coached football and wrestling at Johnson Central and Sheldon Clark. In his storied career, he amassed a 309-133 record in football. His teams made five KHSAA 4A State Championship appearances, winning twice. In 2020, he was named Kentucky Football Coach of the Year. He was equally successful on the mat, guiding his teams to 12 straight region titles with two KHSAA State Championships and one runner-up. He also coached two dual meet state champions and countless individual champions. He was named 2020 NFHS High School Wrestling Coach of the Year. He was inducted into Johnson Central’s Hall of Fame in 2015 and wrestling’s KWCA Hall of Fame in 2017.

I’m still flabbergasted that day 1 of this tournament will be happening at the same time and place as kids who are studying and in class.  How in the heck are they going to fit double the amount of wrestlers, fans, and coaches at GRCHS?

will the KHSAA ask fans to keep cheering to a minimum to not disturb students?  I’m kidding… I think…?

gates for fans at 9. Weigh ins at 9:45.  If you’re early plan on fighting other normal school traffic.

Anyone miss the horse park yet!?!

I think gates open at 10 for fans, don’t want someone standing for an hour waiting.

Wonder why they don’t just spread the 16 man bracket over the course of 3 days, then? It’s inconvenient, doesn’t make sense, but at least they’re honest. It would mitigate the error of calling “semi state” as part of the actual state tournament. I could be wrong but I’m not sure of another sport where you can lose up to 3 times in the post season and still call yourself a state champ.

Could lose 5 times,  lose twice in region and finish 4th, advance to semi, lose 3 more and finish 8th and qualify.

They have both dominated their classes for years and haven’t received mow. They might need to change the rule and give it to two.

I would definitely cut weight to avoid them.  Thought I’d throw that out there since I saw a thread about cutting weight to avoid the best.
