  1. Archibald,

You seem to be forgetting the 9-2 decision Cosgrove had over Phillips @ the Jeffersonville tri-meet.  Besides, I don't know why we are discussing this any more!  Walls gets the one seed and you already stated that you don't care who gets what seed b/c "they all have to face each other anyways", remember?  So the seeds will go 1) Walls 2) Durdeen 3) Cosgrove 4) Phillips.  We'll see if you're a man of your word or if you're just trying to blow smoke?

  2. The Kusnir vs. Seeders match was a good one.  I think Seeders won by 3 or 4 points.  It was close until the end.  Seeders took Kusnir down twice at the end pretty easliy.  In the end, he was just a little too quick for Kusnir.  Seeders has a good shot and can compete with just about anybody @ 130.  His only downfall is sometimes he gets a little lazy and that can hurt him.

  3. It's very unlikely DeShon will crack the top 4 @ 145.  It's not impossible, but very unlikely.  As for 103, Davison from Doss could place as high as 2nd or not be in the top 4 at all.  As long as he keeps from locking his hands, he'll be fine.  He got DQ'd against Huffine for locking hands too many times.  He lost to Maupin the first time they met b/c he locked hands three different times.  He gave up 4 points on locked hands & the final score was 9-8.  The 2nd time they met, he lost 16-15 in a great match.  As for Cosgrove, it's not out of the question to think he can reach the finals and win it.  It's also not out of the question to think he could finish out of the top 4 & not go to state.  I think the 135 weight class is that even.  Obviously Walls is the favorite but I know both Hunter & Aaron wrestled him close and if either one of them get a chance at him, with one or two breaks, who knows.  Kreutzer will be the wild card in this weight class.  We will all get to see who was right & who was wrong in 5 days.  Good luck everybody.  I know after this weekend, I'll be rooting for all of you that make state to represent Region 3 well.  We need it!

  4. I wouldn't see why B.C.'s coach would drop Salter down to 160.  He'll probably win the 171 Regional Championship.  If he drops to 160, he would be not better than a runner-up b/c of Choate.  Considering, the Reigonal title is b/w B.C. & PRP, it wouldn't make any sense to give up a regional champion.

  5. I'm not choosing sides but I do have a question for T.J.?  I know Bailey is 55-3 & that's an incredible record but of the other heavyweights listed in this poll (you can even throw in Josh Young), who has Bailey beaten & which of them has he beaten?

  6. I have only seen Northington one time this year, and I was fairly impressed.  I'm sure his technique gets better with each day and the one thing I noticed was his aggressiveness.  He was constantly moving and always looking to be offensive.  That will often times go a long way in a match.  Aggressiveness can often times help to make up for a lack of experience.

  7. I'm not counting you guys out by any means.  I said earlier, I think you have a chance for one champion and possibly 3 other guys to make the finals.  That would be a huge accomplishment for a 1st year team! Look at a team like Daviess County.  They are either in their 2nd or 3rd year and haven't progressed to that point.  I'm not saying you guys will not have an impact on Regionals b/c you can.  I'm just saying that IMO, this is not your year.  Next year, I completely expect it to be a different story.  I'm sure you guys will work hard in the offseason (i.e camps, usawrestling, etc.), I know you will have most of your line-up back and I also know that your school will give your team the support and resources you need to be successful.  Those three things will help make you highly competitive and in the running for the Region 3 championship, next year.  With a few upsets, you could place top 5 at Regional, this year.  It's not out of the question.  I hope you prove me wrong.  I'm all for the underdog.  I wish you the best of luck the rest of the season.  In 1 1/2 weeks we'll see just how much your team has truely progressed.

  8. I have to agree with Mrs. Baker.  I think Matt will take the regional championship as well.  Our 215 has faced him twice with both being good matches.  Matt is not a flashly wrestler but he always seems to keep it close and get the job done in the end.  He's had a few tough losses this year and that will only make him better in the long run.  He'll find a way to get the job done in the Regional finals as well.

  9. meadecowrestler,

Who do you see from your team winning an individual regional championship?  I think Ohmes has a chance but that's it.  Kelch won't beat Choate at 160, Bruce won't beat Salter at 171 and Opie won't beat Raleigh @ 189.  Those three have a chance to make the finals but I just can't see them feasibly winning their weight class.  Also, full line ups do make a huge difference.  If you're team starts a dual meet up by 12 or 18 points b/c of forfeits by the other teams, especially if it's at weight classes where you have some of your less talented wrestlers, the other team has a huge hole to dig out of.  At dual meets a pin counts as six points regardless of whether it's the first dual, second dual etc.  In individual tournaments, a pin in the first round isn't worth as much as a pin in the second round.  That's why teams that don't have a full-lineup, especially if they have 3 or 4 really good wrestlers, can conceivably place higher than, or at least very close to, a team who has a full line-up.  Case in point would be the Trojan invitational this year.  If you guys face Ft. Knox in a dual, and I think you have, you would beat them by 20 or more.  However, at the Trojan, you guys finished with 71 points and Ft. Knox had 70.5.  That's b/c they have 2 very talented wrestlers (Bailey & Barrientos) and 2 or 3 more wrestlers who are pretty good also (Young, Garcia, etc.)  I know for a fact Iroquois doesn't have a full team (I think they forfeit 4 or 5 weight classes) and they placed higher at the Trojan.  I'm not knocking you guys by any means.  You guys have come a long way in a short time.  You're wrestlers and coaches are to commended for that.  However, I just don't see your team being in the top 5 this year.  As for next year, that's a different story.

  10. Like I said, if Hunter beats Phillips tonight, he deserves the 2 seed.  As for Cosgrove, the reason he could get a 2 or 3 seed is the fact he has faced Phillips twice and beat him both times.  He has not lost to Phillips this year.  He beat him once by a score of 9-2 @ Jeffersonville and then again in the JCTC by injury default.  Thus, if Phillips wins tonight against Durdeen, that means in the regular season (scrimmages don't count) then Phillips has faced Durdeen twice and won both, Durdeen has faced Cosgrove twice and won both and finally, Cosgrove has faced Phillips twice and won both.  Then the head to head b/w the 3 is a toss-out.  You have to go to other common opponents, quality wins, etc.  If Phillips or Durdeen beat Walls tonight, then that individual would get a leg up on the two seed.  If it's Phillips, then that puts him 2nd, regardless of his outcome against Durdeen.  The first common opponent the coaches would go to would be Walls and Phillips would have the only win over Walls.  Hunter should then get the 3 seed and Cosgrove 4 based on their head to head.  If Durdeen beats Walls, then he gets the 2 seed and that would leave Cosgrove and Phillips for 3 & 4.  Cosgrove would get the 3 seed based on head to head.  If both Phillips & Durdeen were to beat Walls, then who knows about the 1 through 3 seed but I would then say Cosgrove gets the 4 seed.  Hopefully, like previously stated in an earlier post, the picture will be much more clear after tonight.  If not, good luck to the coaches at the seeding meeting for Regionals.  As for Phillips injury default against Cosgrove earlier this year, someone needs to check that again.  I'm looking at the score sheet and the score at the time of the default was 4-4 and Cosgrove took Phillips down as the ref stopped the action b/c of the injury to Phillips' ankle.  He never gave Aaron his takedown, he immediately stopped the action.  If he would have continued the action, Cosgrove would have been awarded the takedown and that would put the score at 6-4 Cosgrove.  However, You're right.  The second time it wasn't handily but it was still a win.

  11. The PRP / Southern / B.C. tri-meet will determine how the seed meeting will go for Regionals.  If Walls wins both matches, then he's #1.  It will be in the air b/w Cosgrove, Durdeen and Phillips for the 2, 3 & 4 seed.  Has Durdeen wrestled Phillips or is tonight their first match-up?  If so, who won?  I think that will determine who gets the 2 seed.  If Durdeen has beaten Phillips already or beats him tonight, then he is probably deserving of the 2 seed & should get it.  If Durdeen & Phillips have split this year, then I think Cosgrove will get the 2 seed.

  12. The Region 3 Championship is PRP's to lose.  I think it's PRP then B.C.  After that, who knows.  Doss will place top 5 and as high as 3rd.  Southern will place top 5 and so will DeSales.  Meade County has gotten better over the season but I don't think they're a top 5 team.  They are effective is duals b/c they have a complete line-up!  As for individual tournaments, I don't think they are as effective.  That's not saying they don't have decent wrestlers.  Ohmes will definitely be in the 112 final and they have a few other possibilities as well, but overall, they're not there yet.  As for the champions, I think it's like this.

    103 - Badgett in a walk

112 - Reichmuth or Ohmes but probably Nick

119 - Colston (Gall may go 119 and Lewis from Doss may go 125).  If that happens, it might be a different story.

    125 - Mills

    130 - Seeders

135 - Walls is the favorite but I still think this is open.  Phillips, Durdeen or Cosgrove definitely have a chance.

    140 - Edwards

    145 - I think is open.

    152 - Walls

160 - Do I really have to say.  I think everyone knows but just in case, Dakoda

    171 - Salter

    189 - Raleigh

    215 - Nickel in a walk

HWT - If Robbie Brown makes it to regionals w/out getting kicked off again, I think he's the favorite.  Then again, you can't take anything away from Wise.  He's been consistent all year long.

Team wise I think this is the final standings:  1) PRP 2) B.C. 3) Doss 4) DeSales 5) Southern 6-8) Fairdale, Iroquois, & Meade County (but not necessarily in that order.

    What's everyone else think?

    Anyone else with predictions?

  13. Sounds like a lot of people think Bradbury gets lucky a lot!  He won in overtime against Elam, he won on a questionable locked hands call against Vaughn.  No, I don't think he gets lucky, I think he's a pretty good wrestler and does what needs to be done to win.  As for the best 103 in the state, it's Elliott Martin hands down!
