  1. I think Wolseifer will have wrestled Cooper Samuels before the Mater Dei tournament.  Fern Creek is going to the Floyd Central duals on Dec. 15th.  Hopefully, those two teams will be paired up at that tournament.  I thought they would wrestle at the Providence Invitational on Dec. 1st, but Floyd Central is going to the HHC @ Jeffersonville instead.

  2. That would be quite the reward.  The winner of the Wolseifer/Ervin match would get Cooper Samuels in the finals.  If either one of them win their weight class at the Mater Dei tournament, they would definitely have earned it.  As for who would win, I'm not predicting that one.  Both are very good wrestlers and both always seem to do the little things and find a way to win.  I just hope everything plays out the way it should & I am there to see them wrestle in the state finals.

  3. As of today, after e-mailing their athletic director, Ballard still does not have a wrestling coach.  Is there anyone who would be interested?  Their AD is Chris Kinney.  You can find his e-mail address and school number on KHSAA.ORG if anyone is seriously interested.  Let's try to help them out with some potential candidates.

  4. I think that anyone who knows both Coach Anderson and Coach McCoy knows that Shawn's move has absolutely nothing to do with wrestling.  Anyone who thinks otherwise is simpley misinformed.  Good luck to Shawn this year.  I hope all goes well for him both on and off the mat.

  5. I think Meade will have a very competitive team.  Although you guys only had 1 wrestler in the regional finals last year, you did have quite a few wrestling for 3rd and 4th place and most of those guys are returning.  Experience always helps.  I think most everyone would agree on who the favorites are to win individual regional titles.  However, for the team title, it won't depend on the top wrestlers.  It will be the guys who place 3rd, 4th or the guys who can just win a match or two to earn team points.  It will take a team effort so you need those wrestlers who "just fill weight classes" to step it up in order to earn the team title.  Make those guys better and you will make your team better.  That doesn't just go for the teams in Region 3, that goes for the teams in all the regions.  The teams who step it up with a complete team effort will be the ones who are holding the regional championship trophies in the end.  Good luck to all.

  6. You can't count Doss out of the Region 3 picture just yet.  We haven't even started the season.  We have a full line-up, which is honestly 1/2 the battle.  Our best wrestlers match up pretty well and are in some of the weaker weight classes in Region 3 so that always helps.  We have 2 probable regional champions and maybe 2 to 3 more.  All our other weight classes should hopefully be competitive, but we will see.  As of right now, they look like they will.  We will have to step it up come regional time, but doesn't everyone.  Albeit we have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we do have a chance.  Now back on subject, I like most of the Bulldog215 picks.  However, in Region 3 I do say PRP is the favorite and in Region 5 I'm going with Fern Creek over North Oldham in a close one, much closer than people expect.  As for most competitive region, I think that belongs to Region 4.  Trinity, Seneca, St. X, Moore and Central make for a very tough and competitive region.

  7. As for Dials and Kelly, at the coaches meeting in Lexington, I overheard Coach Muncy from SC say that Kelly was about 195.  I can't imagine cutting the extra 6 lbs. would be a problem for him (4 lbs after Christmas).  The only way I see Dials and Kelly switching places are if Dials is better and can make 189 or if Kelly is better and simply would rather wrestle 215, but I would think he would want another shot at Jones.  I don't think weight is an issue for either, but then again, I'm not their coach so I don't know and can't say for sure.

  8. I think it is fair to say 119 will be the most competitive in our region.  No other weight class has a returning regional champion (Ohmes 112) and 2 regional runner-ups (Reichmuth 112 & Lewis 119) in Region 3.  I would think that will make it the most competitive with the current projection of wrestlers in their respective weight classes.  It is possible 171 could take that spot in the region.  Although the weight class has no studs so to speak of (I am not knocking those kids in any way with that statement), they are also fairly evenly matched.  All the other weight classes have 1 or 2 good wrestlers at the top, but they don't have near parity as 119 or 171 do.  Some of the weight classes won't be competitive at all (i.e 145 with Choate and 215 with Nickel).  Well that is if Nickel doesn't wrestle HWT (weighing 230 right now).  Just kidding Derek.  Only time will tell though on how competitive all the weight classes will be.

  9. I think the previously mentioned kids are good enough to go D1.  I know it would be difficult, it is for any wrestler but you have to try and project what these kids would be like 2 or 3 years from now with top level coaching.  They would probably redshirt their freshman year and that always helps tremendously.  I know Kyle Ruschell was very good in high school, but he wasn't necessarily better in his weight class in high school than Wolseifer or Courtney currently are in theirs and look how he has progressed.  He has a very good chance at being an NCAA all-american this year and who would have necessarily thought that 4 years ago.  You can't go by what their skill level is now and compare them to current D1 wrestlers who have 2 or 3 years of NCAA experience under their belt.  If you do that, then of course they wouldn't look like they were good enough.  Like I said, you have to project what they will be like in 2 to 3 years from now.

  10. "Bottom line:  keep feeding me papi, I'm loving the attention."

To respond:  God knows you need it on here.  You probably never have achieved or never will achieve that same attention on the mat.  Enough on this topic.  I guess you just can't talk sense into some people and you appear to be one of them.  Keep posting and I'll keep laughing at the irony of you responding to posts that by your standards are worthless, meaningless and not worth your time.  Regardless, I wish you the best of luck this season.  Go get 'em tiger!

  11. Please refer to the earlier post.  I am not saying you can't respond and by all means I encourage participation.  However:

    1)  The great thing about the free public forum is that not only are you free to respond to anything you wish, you are also free to not read anything you wish.  I would suggest if you come to a topic labeled "REGION 3 FINALS", you skip it.  Apparently we are not worth your time anyway.  If we annoy you so much, why would you read it!  It is not like someone is sitting you down in a chair and reading Region 3 garbage to you word for word.  Region 3 kids don't annoy you if you don't read what they say.

    2)  "So in conclusion, although I can't make you stop posting disrespectful rabble on this website nor would I want to, I will ask you to please rethink your replies before you post them so as to give your school the proper representation it deserves.  I wouldn't want people thinking that the attitude you display through your posts on this website is indicative of the students and adults who represent your school as a whole."  I copied and pasted this statement just in case you missed it the first time.

    3)  Apparently you need the big adult talk from guys like me.  You have obviously never had it enough before from anyone else or at least you never took it to heart.

    4)  Alright, I don't want to be too critical of you.  I'm going to add a little humor now to lighten the mood.  "Or maybe, just maybe I can tell everyone how gosh darn mad I am, and how I'm just going to vent my frustration and annoy others.  If I try hard enough".  It might be a new signature for you.  Give it a try.  I'll make you a deal.  If you change yours to that, I will change mine to "I like to give the big 'adult' talk to others.  It makes me feel like an adult."  Deal?

  12. I just read the earlier posts on this subject and you guys need to calm down a little.  I agree this is a public forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion or their say.  And yes, that also includes signatures no matter how ridiculous they may be.  Dusty, you don't need to defend yourself.  If you get the positive results on the mat that you obviously believe you will, then people will do your talking for you.  You might beat Walls.  Then again, you might not.  If you don't, you only give people more fuel for the fire and they will burn you badly due some of the posts you have made recently about how improved you are and what a good season you are going to have.  Don't talk, just wrestle.  Leave the talking to the old has beens who don't wrestle anymore like me.  As for OCMVP, for a guy who seems to have nothing positive to say about Region 3 or the young men/kids who represent the region, you sure do spend a lot of time posting replies on their subjects.  If you are a high school student or maybe even an adult with the maturity level of a high school student then I guess I can understand why you do it.  If not, and you are a "mature" adult, then that is pathetic.  Second, as stated above, I have heard you talk a lot of trash about Region 3 wrestlers.  I still remember some of your posts about Region 3 wrestlers before the JCTC last January.  Being a wrestler from a very respectable region like Region 5 and even from a great program like Oldham County (I'm assuming) doesn't make you a good wrestler!  So as far as bashing the kids from Region 3 is concerned, it wouldn't be wise to do that unless you are a current or former state champion.  I don't think it very respectful to do regardless of your wrestling achievements, but it is your right I guess.  By the way, I'm curious what are your wrestling achievements to date?  Are you a former or defending state champion?  How about a former or defending regional champion?  If you can't answer yes to either of the last two questions, then by definition that makes you nothing more than a hyporcite and renders anything you say on this free public forum meaningless.  So in conclusion, although I can't make you stop posting disrespectful rabble on this website nor would I want to, I will ask you to please rethink your replies before you post them so as to give your school the proper representation it deserves.  I wouldn't want people thinking that the attitude you display through your posts on this website is indicative of the students and adults who represent your school as a whole.  Thank you for your consideration of others and good luck to you this season Chiba.  By the way, how is Coach Oldham treating you guys out there?  Hopefully he will get things moving in a positive direction for the football team.

  13. I would say:

    1)  Derek Nickel

    2)  Dakoda Choate

    3)  Corey Mills

    4)  James Badgett

    5)  ???  I guess based on past performance you would have to say Jeremiah Walls.  You could probably put about 3 or 4 wrestlers here.  No wait a second, it would definitely have to be Antwan Fields

  14. Alright, since I wrestled in Indiana I will throw in some Indiana boys.

    1.  Pat Cassidy (Bloomington North) -- He was a 3x state champ.  From the 1992-93 season to the 1994-95 season, he was 121-0!  That's pretty impressive and especially in Indiana.  He was built very similar to Travis Sullivan, but no disrespect to Travis because he is an excellent wrestler, he wouldn't have stood a chance against this guy.  He was just so technical.  He had a wide variety of takedowns.  He was a well rounded wrestler.  You couldn't say he was just good on his feet or just good on the mat, he was good no matter what scenario he was in.

    2.  Leavell Brothers (Decatur Central) -- You could pick one and it wouldn't matter because they were all just so good.  Tim, James & John and they all were Indiana state champs.  They were always so clean and crisp with their moves.  They finished every move off.  These guys wrestled for pins, not just wins.  They were tenacious and it didn't matter who they were wrestling.  If a guy had 0 wins or 50 wins, they went for the pin.  Tim was a powerhouse.  He wrestled 189 and I swear I don't know how he made weight.  He looked like he would have trouble making 215.  James was the more technical of the group.  He could ankle pick just about any at any time he wanted in a match.  John was very technical, but was the scrappiest of the bunch.  He wanted to win at all cost and it showed.

I have only been around Kentucky wrestling for a year, but in that time my favorites would have to be:

    1.  John Wolseifer (No surprise) and for the same reasons everyone else has already mentioned.  He is always calm and finishes his moves off hard.  When he takes you down, you feel it.  Heck, I feel it watching him and I'm not wrestling.  He never seems to panic.  Even against Scott Wheeler last year when he was down late in the match at state he never looked rattled.  He looked like the match had just started.

    2.  Derek Nickel (Alright so I'm bias)  He is just a gamer.  He works so hard and this kid never gives up.  I just enjoy his tenacity and effort.
