  1. I'm pretty sure ccbcdeke is the father of a Fern Creek wrestler.  Fern Creek has definitely had some tough breaks this year.  Tichenor inherited a team long on talent, but short on discipline.  He will have Fern Creek back to a powerhouse soon.  I just can't imagine losing 4 kids from your team who placed 3rd or higher at state the year before and none of them were lost to graduation!

  2. I am going to stick up for my guy Cahill.  I really think Billy is in the finals against Mitchell.  Billy is wrestling very well right now, he just hasn't had that one break that puts him over the top.  He had a tough Dragon tournament, but I think he showed he can compete with some of the best at 140.  He had very close matches against Mitchell, Pitcher & Watkins from Trinity he just didn't finish.  This weekend, I think he finishes and makes it to the finals.

  3. Not bad predictions, but I say it's Payne and Bailey at HWT and the 140 final you have listed will not happen as they will probably be the 2nd & 3rd seeds.  John Thomas from Central will be the 1 seed.  Depending on who Lockland has, Cahill or Graham will be the 4 seed & the other the 5 seed.

  4. You have to consider that you are only going by who you have wrestled and how they did against you.  You also have to take into account how they did against each other and how they did against the rest of the state.  Ranger does update the rankings weekly and these rankings are for January 23rd and before.  They do not take into account individual results from the state duals.  If anything needs to be changed based on those results, they will be on the rankings for January 30th.  Sure he is going to miss a few here and there.  I don't see how he can get everything just right down to each spot with ranking 14 weight classes and 30 kids in each.  Nobody can do that.  However, these are pretty close and definitely better than the 2 alternatives (Nothing or the KWCA rankings).  Then again, I also think Kansas is better than Memphis, but Memphis is still ranked #1.  Hey Ranger, can you fix that one.

  5. The flyer also states the schools will split the revenue evenly between them.  If the event winds up in the negative, the schools will split that as well.  There is no team entry fee for the region 3 & 4 tournaments.  I am pretty sure the teams will split the gate and Hoops gets the concessions.

  6. I don't know about concessions stands, but the gate is $5 for adults, $2 for Children under 12 with the exception of pre-school and below and they are free.  Also on the handout I was given from my AD it says that each team will be alloted 20 total tickets for which to get their wrestlers, coaches and managers in the facility.  Let me know if anyone needs extra tickets.  We won't need all of ours and I will sell them at a discounted price. :-D

  7. Yes, Region 3 & 4 are good to go for Hoops on February 9th.  The seeding meetings for each region will also be held at Hoops on the Thursday (7th) before the tournament.  Weigh-ins are at 8:30 and wrestling is scheduled to begin at 10.  The only problem is that according to the handout, there are only going to be 4 mats total (2 for each region).  This will take forever.

  8. I don't think it can be characterized as necessarily just a wrestling phrase, but my wrestling coach use to always have 2 sayings for us when we did poorly.  1) "Boys, the school must think I am Houdini, but I can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t".  And 2) "You looked like a one-legged man in an a** kicking contest".

  9. That is not a bad suggestion, but it would be more logical to put St. X & Moore in Region 3 & leave Southern there as well.  Those 3 schools are little closer to the west side of town.  Then again, since they are all in Louisville, why couldn't they just split the programs up randomly.  Or at least the programs that are more centrally located in Louisville.  You would obviously leave schools like Shawnee, Central & Western in Region 3 and leave schools like Eastern and Ballard in Region 4, but schools like St. X, Trinity, Moore, Seneca & Southern who are located 1/2 way between the east and west side of town could be split between the 2 regions.  With this supposed realignment, Manual is in Region 4 and they are closer to schools like Shawnee, Western & Central than Fairdale is.

  10. We all can play the what ifs.  Below is also a situation if John Hardin had there starting lineup.

All true but John forfeited 160 which cost them 6 points.  there is a very good chance he would have won this match.  if so, this would have made it 33-32 John. also john was wrestling a jv at 119 which added another 6 points to ryle. at worst he would have only given up 3 points which would have made it 33-29 John. If john's 119 won then it is 36-26 John.

In reality, its fun to say what ifs but we will only know for sure Saturday night.

Chris Pitcher is a very nice wrestler, but he would have faced Alex Pickett who is ranked 4th at 160.  I don't think the odds would have been in his favor to win the match.  Hopefully, all teams will be wrestling their true varsity line-ups and we actually get to see who is the best outside of Union.
