Dominguez vs. Houchens should be the best 2nd round match-up for 189. I still can't believe Jones & Kelly meet in the quarterfinals. I guess those are the breaks with the random draw.

Davis & Thomson would have to be on opposite sides since Davis was the 1st place finisher from Region 5 & Thomson was the 3rd place finisher. Thomson would be on the same side as Branch from Region 5.

Since the Region 1 alternate at HWT wasn't there, the Manual HWT was drawn into the tournament. Priority always goes to the 5th place finisher for a region where one of the kids in a given weight class don't compete for a given reason. If that region's alternate is not available to compete, then they have a drawn in system to complete the field. It rotates by region & last year Region 4 had the 1st slot. This year, Region 3 has the 1st drawn in alternate if a given region's alternate is not available to compete.

Seeding would be nice, but just not very practical. Even with the suggested "pre-state" regular season tournaments, the seedable wrestlers still wouldn't wrestle everyone who might be seeded. Even if it were mandatory to compete in 2 of 4 designated regular season tournaments, teams like Wayne County would probably stay and compete in tournaments closer to their region like the WCI, etc. Whereas a team like Union County would probably compete in a tournament in the Eastern 1/2 of the state and maybe one in Louisville like the Dragon. Once again, they still wouldn't see each other. In addition, the seeding procedure at those suggested tournaments would be a nightmare. If you think coaches argue too much at regular season tournaments about getting a 1 or 2 seed or getting a 3 or 4 seed, just imagine what would happen now if the actual outcome of regular season tournaments played a factor into a possible state seed. The random draw, although hated by many, is fair to all teams. If you did seed the 8 regional winners and draw in the rest, what would happen in the case like last year with the 103, 112 & 145 weight classes where the best 2 in the state & the 2 state finalists are actually in the same region? Would you keep the part of the random draw where the 1st & 2nd place finishers from each region are drawn in on opposite sides of the bracket?

Region 1 was Union Co.
Region 2 was John Hardin
Region 3 was Meade Co.
Region 4 was Trinity
Region 5 was South Oldham
Region 6 was Ryle
Region 7 was Woodford Co.
Region 8 was Wayne Co.

I have to admit, Coach Cole had his boys from Iroquois ready to wrestle. I think they had 7 wrestlers and all 7 made it to state.

If people are looking to fill in names to those random positions, most of the regionals have their results posted on the khsaa website as well. I believe only Regions 1 & 2 don't have their top 4 finishers posted just yet.

Sounds like shades of Jacob Watson all over again from last year.

Here is the article the Courier-journal did on Nickel in Friday's paper.

Ballard will be at the Region 5 tournament. They found a coach about a month ago and have been wrestling recently. I know they were at the Dragon & Mustang this year.

I like the picks, except for one. I don't think Payne will allow BeBop to stall his way through this time. Payne will be fairly active for a HWT in this match-up & will beat BeBop 7-3.

Meade County sent 3 people to the seeding meeting just to fight for a #1 for him. It didn't work. If he would have shown up himself, however, the absolute fear he would have instilled into all the rest of the coaches would have definitely won him a #1 seed.
-
According to the seeds it would be. Just like if Mills beats Blanford it's an upset and if Cosgrove beats Pike it's an upset.
-
I know you were seeded below Spann. He is the 2 seed and you are the 3 seed, but there is no difference b/w the 2 & 3 seeds. They still have to meet in the semis regardless. Think of it this way, if you win, then you "upset" the 2 seed to make it to the finals.

I don't think it is the fact that Luna messed up that has people thinking the way they do about him. I think it is how he messed up. Yes kids do some dumb things & 99% of the time they should be given 2nd chances. I think it is more the fact that Luna's biggest mistake was made in front of many fans, wrestlers and coaches @ the Big East tournament last year. That tends to stick with people more when they see it first hand and also tends to leave a more negative image of an individual in everyone's mind. I also think the fact that he wrestles for Eastern has something to do with it. Right or wrong, many people simply do not have a positive view of Eastern. I personally have no problem with Eastern, but I know many people who do and many of them view this website daily. I say if Luna can keep his nose clean then give him a 2nd chance, or 3rd, or 4th or whatever number he is on now. If he can, then good for him. If he can't, then people are really going to come down on him worse than ever. The "I told you so" statements are going to become more numerous than ever. It's just human nature.

Honestly Dusty, I like these new "owned" jpegs you keep posting. They are a hell of a lot better than what you usually have to say. Good luck Saturday. No reason you shouldn't be in the finals. That is of course unless you choke.

Not a problem.

Nope, that is the criteria in the correct order. The only exception is that #5 is either a returning champion or runner-up at the same weight class.

Holy Cross

That's not necessarily true. The PRP coaches can change their entries the morning of the tournament. So it is possible for the lineup change to still occur. Not likely, but still possible.

I truly hope he does. Having more talented and dedicated wrestlers like him on the next level will not only open doors for him in the future, it will also help other future wrestlers in Kentucky possibly have access to those same opportunities. The more wrestlers from Kentucky who have success on the next level, the more college coaches will begin to actively recruit other Kentucky high school wrestlers. For example, I take interest in Kyle Ruschell, even though I don't know him personally, & always hope for him to do well because I know what it will do for both him and other wrestlers in Kentucky opportunity-wise. I wish Mitch the best of luck in his futures plans both on and off the mat.

I would agree with you for the most part. However, from 140 on up, count how many sophomores, freshmen and middle schoolers are ranked in the Top 5. The upper weight classes tend to be the weight classes primarily dominated by upper classmen. It is just a natural growth progression by high school kids. I am taking nothing away from Mitch so please don't read into my posts that way. He deserves the success he has had thus far and is a great wrestler. I am not even suggesting that Hitchings would be better in his senior year than Mitch is currently in his senior year. I am just saying it would be a better comparison and more debatable that what it currently is.
-
Mitch would win, but honestly this isn't really fair to Hitchings. Hitchings will be a 2x state champ once Reid graduates so he has plenty to look forward to. A better question would be how would Hitchings as a senior stack up against Mitch as a senior. Obviously we wouldn't know that answer right now, but it would be a lot closer than Ervin vs. Hitchings this year.

Each region can adopt their own criteria for regional seedings. However, most regions use what the KHSAA suggests and it is in order of criteria:
A) Head to head competition b/w contestants.
The record against common opponents.
C) A contestant with a better overall record.
D) A contestant with an exceptional record against acknowledged strong competition.
E) A returning champion or runner-up in the same weight class.
I don't know if Region 2 used this set of criteria or not, but I believe this is what we are using for Region 3.
NOW, who is undefeated going into state?

Matt Green has one loss to Julian Dominguez from Wayne County. I think Adam Dials is actually the only one undefeated at 215 this year. I'm pretty confident he hasn't lost to an in-state opponent and I think he actually hasn't lost at all this year.
