I certainly can see why you are a big believer in Hendren because he works harder than just about anybody I know. He's also just an all around good guy! Having a big team to support him will give him an advantage he hasn't had in the past. You really have to hand it to him for sticking with it when he hasn't had the comraderie of a team to help him through the ups and downs of the sport. I hope he allows himself sometime to wind down though because that's pretty important too! I see him being a regional champ too, maybe at 145 or 152.

KCD has already started using the matroom for something else.... I think they are ending wrestling there.

    Region 5 (Very Very Pre-Season)

All I was saying before is that all of the Varsity wrestlers at Eastern are pretty well tied to the school, since we apparently don't have communities here in Jeffferson County. I think it would be unlikely they would transfer outside of the county since they all live in homes owned by their families. It would be a lot of trouble to sell and buy a home or rent an apartment in another county just to change teams. I really don't understand the business of changing teams anyway. If your on a team part of it's sucess depends on your effort and the effort of the rest of your team. Seems like hard work would be a best way to be on a winning team. There may be a middle school student that doesn't come to Eastern who knows?

I can't imagine Eastern losing any of their better kids. Most of them are pretty tied to the community! Who could you be thinking?

    Harrison Courtney - Standing Ovation!

Harrison Courtney is an outstanding young man! 4 state championships and a bright future ahead. I can't remember ever seeing him wrestle a match that I had to wonder if he would win! I'm sure everyone that has watched him wrestle over the years was standing last night when be became a 4 timer! Congrats to Harrison!

I'm not at all curious whose jock you are hanging on widowmaker. And perhaps you might want to restrict your comments to wrestling which is what mine were about. I guess you didn't have a response to my comments on the wrestling match since you chose to insult me instead. Incidently I jump up and down for all the kids on our team not just Davis. Davis just happens to be the one doing well these days. We are expecting big things in the future from Nyitrae, T. Rupp, J. Rupp and Boroff to mention a few. And when their time comes you will be tired of me jumping up and down for them. And if your boy moves up from 5th to 1st I'll be glad to give him kudos too!

    Most Outstanding Wrestler

I thought Harrison Courtney had it locked up. Being a four time state champ is awesome! I guess the coaches had different criteria to consider in determining the winner. Justin Davis did have a lot of exciting matches and manages to keep the action going. He always has us out of our seats when he wrestles! Both of these young men have a brigt future ahead of them!
  8. Justin Davis now a two time State Champ has indeed made wrestling in Kentucky more exciting. Yes there are probably wrestlers with more career wins and state championships. But Justin has only wrestled 3 years, placing 4th the first year and following up with state championships the next two years. Just consider what he might have accomplished if he had started wrestling in elementart or middle school like most of the young men that wrestle at state. Justin makes his matches exciting and always leaves us something to talk about one way or another. Some people don't like his style or attitude. But most people that go to the trouble to get to know him love and respect him for his hard work and dedication. I congratulate Justin and wish him good luck for a happy and prosperous future in college!

OK widowmaker we get it you're right Thomson got a reversal. Thats a hard bone to hold on to though. I missed it becuase I blinked and Davis already had reversed again. From my computations Thomson had control for .45 seconds! I'm not sure he ever had control because it looked like they were rolling and the ref gave him a reversal. But you're right he got two points. The only other time Thomson had control is when Davis started down at the begiining of the period. That's when Thomson put in an illegal headlock, tried to choke Davis and the ref ended up awarding Davis a point. I hardly consider those two occasions worthy of saying Thomson was holding his own against Davis I'm curious what you think was Thomson's finest moment in this match. Was it the illegal headlock and choking, or the reversal and half a second of being in control, or not getting up and finishing the match. We'll never know who would have won that match if it was completed, but from the way it was going before the ref stopped it I wouldn't have been betting on Thomson. Thomson won the match the only way he could have!

Maybe MatMama missed a reversal but Davis was ahead by six points and dominated the match before it was stopped. But I think she was trying to make the point that both of the young men are probably very good men who shouldn't be judged by their actions in one match. Anyone who watched the match and hasn't seen these young men in other matches might draw an unfair conclusion about one or the other of them. Those that know Davis are outraged about the choking and those that know Thomson are outraged bu the unnecessary roughness. I hope they do get a rematch so this can be settled.

    Reffing at Hoops?

I think there are questionable calls at every tournament. Who would even want to go to a tournament without some controversy. Where's the fun in that? The reffing at Hoops Region 5 was as good as you could ask for. Even though there were some calls I didn't agree they were certainly within the margin of human error. We can get perfect officiation though by rigging up some heat sensing motion sensors, video cams attached to robotic arms, and a computer programmed with all the rules and penalties that could score the matches. This system could replace the refs and the people operating the scoreboards. It will eliminate all the time coaches have to spend discussing calls with the refs too! It will probably even save a lot of time people spend filming matches!

Shotwell and Davis are both excellent wrestlers. I'm glad they haven't wrestled each other this year that will make it more exciting when they do. I predict Davis will win even though Shotwell has been wrestling some pretty tough guys in Ohio. Davis is pretty tough too and his speed and strength will be a big advantage. I'm certain his match with Shotwelll will be his toughest match of the year. Good luck to both of them!

I doubt Davis would have been rough at all had it not been for Thomson's illegal headlock and trying to choke Davis. Something about having your air passages cut off will bring out the worst in a person even it the ref does award you a point. People seem to be giving Thomson a pass but I think he bears some of the responsibility for this match getting out of hand, instead of him being the victim. After watching a video of this match the illegal headlock seemed pretty blatant and Thomson went to a lot of effort to keep it until the ref called him on it so I don't think it was accidental. Both of these young men used poor judgement in this match. Thomson for trying to choke Davis and Davis for trying to retaliate.

Some of the wrestlers around me that weren't on either team just called it a crossface. I guess depending on where you were sitting and what angle you were watching from you might have seen something different. It's pretty standard to award a point to the opponent of someone that does something illegal. So there are rules and penalties. But keeping someone from going to state would be extreme. And I don't think the winning the state tournament would carry the same meaning if perhaps one of the best wrestlers in the state didn't participate. How would the champ know if he really was the best? I predict Davis will be a repeat champion!

Justin Davis was winning by a pretty good margin but he's a very aggressive wrestler as any of his teammates will tell you. When he crossfaced the N. Oldham wrestler it was pretty hard and he didn't get up right away. In fact he didn't get up until DAvis was disqualified. However he looked fine and didn't show any signs of being hurt.
