    Pray for Coach Walls

I hope all goes well. I will definitely say a prayer for Coach Walls tonight. I hope he makes a full recovery by fall and is able to defend his championship in February.

    The most underestimated

Jones, I sat behind your team all week last year at state. Great bunch of kids, I was impressed with the way you handle your role as team leader. It was clear that they look to you to keep everyone focused and motivated. It was easy to see how much you cared about your fellow teammates. 189 is going to be a tough weight class next season, I hope to see you in the finals.

    The most underestimated

Well, thats why I listed him as one of the most underestimated wrestlers. I believe in Houchens, I've watched him wrestle several times this summer and I feel that this will be his year.

    The most underestimated

Results from 2006 Cincinnati Nationals 189 Cadet Houchens Greco 1st Freestlye 1st Folkstyle 4th Ried Greco 3rd Freestyle 3rd Folkstyle 1st I would say that the results from last year would put them pretty close. Houchens won all three styles at Cinnci this year and has been working hard all spring. Has Ried been practicing or wrestling in any tournaments? If he bumps to 189 next season it will be one hell of a weight class, I can't wait to see some of those matches.

    The most underestimated

I've had the opportunity to watch a lot guys wrestle this spring and summer so I feel confident saying that Dust Stengel from PRP is perhaps the most underestimated wrestle in Louisville. Stengel and Choate will be a great combination for PRP this year. Jeremy Bollman from Oldham County is another kid who will surprise alot of people this year. Saint X will have Freshman Kyle Honeycutt wrestling 103, there are at least 10 people currently ranked at 103 that Honeycutt can beat. I believe that Ryan Houchens from South Oldham will win 189 this year. Ryan could also win 215 and if he wanted to drop the weight,(and he could) he could probably beat Reid at 171.

    Best Region

Hey Be-Bop, As a guy who grew up in the the South End, I have a lotta love you guys. But right now Region #3 is still lagging behind. However, I do believe that you guys are turning the corner and will start making a strong presence know within the next couple of years. Someone needs to step up and get some more middle school wrestlers involved, I think there were only five or six kids from the south end that participated at Middle School Regionals last year. It hard for you guys to compete at State because your always giving up two or three of experience. Sometimes I wish I stilled live out there so I could get schools like Conway and Stuart (I went To Stuart) to start some kind of program. Keep working hard and keep that chip on your shoulder, because I know you guys feel like you have something to prove. You can take a boy out of the South End, but you can't take the South End out of the boy.

    Re-alignment???

Ranger, Is there anyway you can become a wrestling board member? We need someone with your insight and experience to represent us in frankfort. How many board members have ever wrestled, coached or refereed? where as, you have done all three all over ther state. I'm sure you have plenty on your plate, but we are obviously going through a growing phase and need someone who can help steer us in the right direction. You know I"m full of crap most of the time, but I'm really serious about this. You should check into it. All in favor say I !!!

    Re-alignment???

"The biggest issue I have right now is the very very small brackets in region 3 (west Jeff) compared to everyone else in the state. With the growth of wrestling in West KY, realignment is inevitable. I think you could make two very good regions out of Jefferson County (without the surrounding counties), and keep travel down for those schools while maximizing their ability to generate some revenue by hosting. But only time will tell." ---- Jullian Tacket What the heck is Jullian Tacket talking about, Region 3 has 12 teams in their region and the talent level is very much on the rise. And trying to split Jeff Co. into two regions would be ridiculous. There are 24 teams in Jeff Co. right now, Butler will be starting a team soon and their is a private school that is also planning on starting a team. The best thing to do would be two move a couple of teams out of region 3 and into region 5 where there is only 8 teams, if you count J-town which only had two kids at regionals last year and KCD who had 7 kids at Regionals.

    Rusty Parks

As a wrestling community we should step up and nominate Coach Rusty Parks as an inductee to the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame. Coach Parks' record at Woodford County is unparalleled in this State. He virtually holds every coaches record in the book, and also holds many National records. Woodford County's' success is known throughout the region and has given our state a legitimacy that would not exist without Coach Parks's dedication to the sport of wrestling and leadership at Woodford County High School. Bye the way, I am not a Woodford County Graduate or affiliated with Woodford County in any way. I just believe that A man like Rust Parks should be recognized for his achievements and loyalty. Lets get the ball rolling.

    3-Sport Athletes

At KCD, eight out of nine guys on the team play at least three sports. Some guys even play four. Everyone on the team either plays football, soccer or runs cross-country in the fall. Some are on the Swim team and wrestling team at the same time during the winter. In the spring they run track, play lacrosse or baseball sometimes playing two sports at the same time. Most of the guys maintain a 3.5 gpa or better, and have had near perfect scores on the SAT. We have graduates at Princeton, Wharton school of business, Centre, Stanford, Harvard and other top colleges across the Nation. I'm not sure how they stay so busy and maintain their high level of academic achievement, but I'm incredibly proud to be their Coach.
  13. Are alternates required to show up for weigh-ins, or is it voluntary? Also, do alternates that show up for weigh-ins receive a participant pass good for the entire tournament or just free admission for Thursday.
  14. Who will be this years most outstanding wrestler? My vote is for Ben Warner. He made all the way to the regional finals before giving up an offensive point. I don't see him giving up many more this weekend. What region is Davidson in? Oh! thats right, he wrestles for Oldham County, I get confused because he always wears his want-a-be Davidson uniform. Just kidding Ben, Good Luck!!!

Alternates -- do they receive a pass?

    Thanks !! :-)

    Region 3 rankings 12-31-2006

Is Meade Co. in Region 3. Their team looked real good this past weekend at Valley. Hard to believe their a first year team, I think they will really shake things up in the future for region 3.

    2 pounds

"An athlete has to make scratch weight at least one time prior to the January 27 deadline, and must have done so on a date that he /she was valid to do so by the NWCA program. There is no longer a 50% rule to monitor. An athlete must have a combination of four matches or four weigh-ins representing the high school during the current season in order to be eligible to enter the region." This is the reply I recieved from Jullian Tackett(KY wrestling commissioner) when I questioned him about the new rule.

    Sheldon Clark @ Kingsport, TN

Science Hill High in Johnson City, TN must not have been there or the results would have been different. They broke the National record for pins in a season last year with 409 pins.

    Placers at 160lbs

There are alot of guy who may place at 160 this year, but none of them will come close to John Wolsiefer of Fern Creek..TOTAL DOMINATION. I feel sorry for any inexperienced Freshman or Sophomores that get thrown in with him.. somebody call the paramedics.
  20. stand-up

    Moore?

Those kids at Moore should thank their lucky stars that they have coach Thomas. He lives and breathes Moore wrestling. His has fought an up hill battle for five years trying to build that program. If it wasn't for him, I Doubt that Moore would even have a team. Great job Coach Thomas

    Region 5

Maybe Your A Fern Creek fan. But I won't say your wrong, Fern Creek will be a force to be reckoned with this year. Burkett ---- Top 5 Wood ---- will get #3 Branch ---- Could place Barger ---- Top 5 Wolseifer ---- NO ONE WILL COME CLOSE, TOTAL DOMINATION Chaney --- Top 5 The rest of the Region is somewhat down, a few bright spots such as Rupp, Warner, the Zeppa brothers, Luna and a few others. South Oldham is young this year, Houchens should have a top 5 year, but from top to bottom I don't think the region is as strong this year.

    Who's going to Woodford Invit.?

I'm and old Science Hill Wrestler, and I keep a close watch on the program. Science Hill and Greenville usually share a bus for the ride to woodford, they didn't come last year because of gas prices. Last I heard they won't be back this year either. Maybe if gas prices keep dropping they'll change there mind.
