  1. How about this one:  Mark Hitchings, 1981 champ at 167lbs vs. Brad Hitchings, 2009 and 2010 champ at 171 lbs.  We still argue over this.  I think I could have whipped Brad!!

Yeah, but neither of you could hang with Brent at 140.

  2. Fahy with his state titles and good placings in other tournaments , I know many would and will rave but the fact is he dodged comp at times even inn season to protect his record .
Cooper a 3 timer who wrestled all over and always did well and was very dominant at times .

Why would you spew that kind of crap?

  3. My observations:

What the heck happened to wrestling in Oldham County? South seems to have fallen completely off the map. North may be going through a lull because they've got some competitors coming up and OC was supposed to have fielded their best chance in years qualifying all 14. Has a team ever entered a full team and not finished in the top 10?

Christian County has some talent. Nice to see some schools other than Union out of Region 1. Will HopTown ever make it back?

I sat close to the Cooper fans and let me say that although they may be kicked around NKY, they are proud supporters of Region 6.

Watch out for Trinity, Fern Creek, and Ryle next year.

  4. I see what you're getting at here and know that this comment was made because of one of my previous posts.  I want to clarify something for you, No one ever said that one single team from Region 6 was the best, what was said, as a whole Region 6 is the toughest in the state.  If you do a little research before posting you would know that by and large the most placers/champs in the state tournament come from region 6 every year since I have been involved in KY wrestling.  As a region we score more points than any other region.  I think the next closest to ours was some 80 points behind last year.  Take it for what it is Region 1 had all eight man brackets (some with byes) in that region you can win one match and qualify for state.  In Region 4 it is the same way, even with the redistricting of regions this past year, no other region is as tough as REGION 6.  When you can show me and everyone else some hard evidence other than the "oh the state champs were from elsewhere" then don't make uneducated comments.

I do agree with one statement you made...If you don't come to wrestle next week you might get beat by that kid from boofoo, because he wants "it" just as bad as anyone!

You either have not been involved in Kentucky wrestling very long or, may want to take your own advice and do the research. If you want to use recent history, you only have to go back a few weeks to see where the toughest teams are. Arhens Trade School has more state championships than Ryle.

  5. If they are serious about "toning it down", they should start with the music selection. They use it to get a crowd excited and then whine when they can't control it. It's like pumping a 5 year old full of Twinkies and Mountain Dew and the giving him a time out for being rambunctious.

C'mon KHSAA, take control of the situation by providing alternatives. Safety issues, my butt.

  6. I was not there to see the call in question, but I am sorry if your 121 lost on a not so great call. That being said, I still think Coach Roth is in the top level of honorable coaches in this sport.

Forgive me for not being clear on my post. Coach Roth (the whole WV staff for that matter) were the victims.

I should also be clear that it was not the referee's call. Every now and then coaches get the opportunity to exhibit the life lessons our sport teaches. This coach took a path that IMO is not compatible with what we hope our children take from this great sport. If I had dog in the fight I can assure you, I would be much more vocal.

That WV crew is tough. Stay classy, Bearcats.

  7. Coach Roth, you sir are a true class act. I personally have had respect for you from day one, but with posts such as that, you just prove your sportsmanship once again. You are the kind of class act that I would want my son to wrestle for if we lived up North. Congrats to you and Blake.

I am in total agreement. I cannot say I would be as gracious coming up a 1/2 point short. Knowing all the points denied my team when my 121 pounder was on the receiving end of a less than true sportsmanship call by a coach makes us envious of your modesty and humility.

  8. I feel Region 4 is definitely the toughest region in the State.  Sure Union or Cambell may be better (that will be determined) but in Region 4 you have 3 of the Top 6 rated teams in the State - Trintiy, X, and Moore.  If Divisions were given out awards at the State competion I feel Division 4 would finish way ahead of the other 7 divisions.

Predictions I feel strongest about are both Lampes from St. X winning relatively easily and Mikey Smith in 182 from Moore.....I have seen Smith wrestle many times this year and he has won some big Tournaments including one in Ohio and the Jefferson County Tournament of Champions.  In the 285 division I heard there is a kid named Vinegar from Manual who has only been wrestling 2 years but is really coming on strong right now.  I just checked Tournament of Champions and he came in 3rd there so should do well here.  Trinity's 170 Miozza sure looks great, but I have seen Case from Eastern and he may give him a good match if he gets past Ray from X.    In 145 Kahl from Trinity is stong but will be challenged hard from either Moore or Eastern.  Binder seems pretty much a sure thing as well.

A statement was made at the State Duals. Although Fern Creek is in a different region, 3 of the top 4 big are in Louisville and OC is a mighty fine neighbor.
