    Big Tens

From Badger blog: <<In Ruschell's match, he scored some back points and now has a 7-4 lead with 1:16 left in the second. Ruschell also has about two minutes of riding time. Ruschell has Wimberley on his back...gets two nearfall points. 9-4. Sounds like a pin in another match...an Iowa wrestler pinned MSU...not sure what weight class it was. Take that back, it was Brent Metcalf with a pin...he's the top-seed. Oh no...Ruschell just got pinned...Wimberely got Ruschell on his back right away to start the third and he was pinned...Ruschell had a 9-4 lead. WImberely advances.>> Iowa looks/sounds ready.

    new guy here...just saying hello...

You don't know me either but, I pray everyday for your safe return. Word is that you have to have a horse shoe stuck up your a$$ to not be in Iraq or Afghanistan. Some kids will be joining after graduation. I've heard: Cody Mann, Fern Creek 152 (scarecrow 152) Dan Smith, Trinity 112 (green goblin)/USMC I am sure there are others.

    "The Streak" is over!!!

I heard Mike Milkovich retired to Florida but, I'm not sure where. <<After success as a high school and college wrestler, he entered high school coaching in 1950 at Maple Heights, Ohio, where there was no organized wrestling program. Over 27 years, his teams produced 265 dual meet victories against a mere 25 defeats. They enjoyed 16 undefeated seasons, won 10 state championships, eight runner-up trophies and 21 conference titles. Included were winning streaks of 102 and 59 dual meets.>> His son, Pat put me in the consolation bracket in 1971. I was pretty upset at losing but, he turned out to be a pretty decent wrestler.

Large public university to start wrestling team?

I've got my AARP card and I don't ever remember the SEC being "known for wrestling". They have comparable budgets as the Big 12 and 10 conferences but pale in comparision as to the number of sports they support.

    12-27: Tiger Duals (St. X)

You would think someone from X would understand that the rankings don't mean diddley. They know what it is like to be ranked number 1 in the state, nationally recognized only to have it ripped from them in overtime against a team they had already beaten.

    Awsome high school wrestling move!

There's a good arguement that was actually a 5-point move for the other kid. -Obvious freestyle -total back exposure - high and arching I say this after getting schooled in the differences between international and folk at an Open years ago. The ref told me, "Son, leave the Gramby at home when you come here."

Obviously, you are not familiar with the classics.

    Small Schools??

Any school smaller than the Derek Zoolander Center For Children Who Can't Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too. "What is this? A CENTER FOR ANTS!? The center has to be at least... three times bigger than this!"

Favorite wrestler to watch of all time

Although he was not a state champ and only wrestled one year in Kentucky, Mike Hart of South Oldham. Not only fun to watch but, to watch his match preparation. His focus and intensity was unbelievable. His opponent would be stabding in the center of the mat waiting to shake hands and Mike would be running a circle around him clapping his hands. Like a shark with blood in the water. He usually had a strength advantage. What he lacked in technique, he made up with intensity and the mental aspect of wrestling. He was good example of knowing only a few things and excuting them so well that there proved to be only one other wrestler in Kentucky who could stop him.

    Mitch or Harrison?

This will be a great match. Here's how I see it. The general consensous here it will be a close match. I agree. Much of it will have to do how or who is officiating. Courtney is a great down wrestler but, there are respected refs around here that will call stalling if the top wrestler isn't turning the guy for back points. That's a different topic. A stalling call in the neutral position is less likely. Irvin is impressive on his feet and is more likely to take risk. Another plus for Irvin is the tutelage he is receiving from the master of "funk wrestling", Ben Askren. Huge risk-taker in any position. Both are great. Harrison Courtney is great high school wrestler with near flawless technique. Mitch Irvin, it appears has his wrestling stylings ready for the next level. The ref will be under more pressure than either wrestler in this one. Strength and conditioning being equal, I'm giving the nod to Irvin due to the officiating in Kentucky.

    Goal Setting Skills For Wrestling

Coach - This is great stuff. I drank that kool-aid a long time ago and attribute the success I have enjoyed in my professional life to it. 2 key points. Wite it down and put it somewhere you see it everyday. In your locker, on car the dash, or on the mirror is some places I have used. Use a calandar. As the goal date nears break it down to days, hours, minutes. This creates the urgencey to complete it on time and not just push the date back.

I'm not credit for this but,

"WRESTLERS are the strongest, fastest and smartest athletes in the world. But that's not what makes them unique. They are the MOST dedicated people in the world. They sacrifice their lives to a sport of fighting. Where practice is 3 hours of lifting and throwing and conditioning. 3 hours of a literal street brawl. They give up there social lives. They cant party and get drunk because making weight on Saturday won't allow it. They cant go smoke after school cause they worked too damn hard to get into shape. They have no team out on the mat with them to help get past an opponent. They stand on a mat with all eyes on them, alone, no one to fall back on when they make a mistake, no safety to make the tackle, and no goaly to make a diving save. They are the leanest meanest and strongest in the world. Ladies want them, men want to be just like them. So this is a tribute to all those who sacrifice everything, their free time, their food, and most importantly their life. Why would someone work so hard, til they are puking in practice, sweating in their 3 layers and a sauna suit or skipping that badass party? Or why would they induce the blood sweat and tears? Or the early morning runs, or mid day workouts or the extra run after practice to lose that last pound to make weight. The road in wrestling always ends in tears. The man that takes second cries cause his dreams are over, and the man that wins it all cries more than anybody because finaly everything that they have afore mentened is finally worth while. Wrestlers will wrestle through anything because they are friggin' wrestlers. And greatness walks right with the word wrestler. I salute all who commit there life to something greater, something bigger than themselves. Wrestlers dont do wrestling cause they like it, you would be crazy to like to beat yourself up on a daily basis, and get beaten up by teammates and opponents just as much. Yet there are the few who love it, they do it cause they were born

Who was the best wrestler to not win a state title????

The expressions of you and Mike in the chairs is absolutely priceless. Legs? Legs? What the H???? is he doing? CoachBrown shows a great lesson here about how things can happen at the big dance.

    BGSG 2

Coach McCoy- I know I speak for many expressing my gratitude for all the work you and your team of volunteers did. One of the great joys this sport offers to old farts like myself is watching men like yourself taking the lessons this sport of ours offers and grow. Everytime I see you I remember that skinny little kid in a gawd awful burgundy singlet at Atherton High School asking me how to get votes for outstanding wrestler. Before the movie, the coaching legend, Woody Hayes coined the phrase of Paying Forward. Your actions speak volumes. You may never reap the rewards for what you do and have done for the KY wrestling community. But know this, You are appreciated. ~OF

    Proposal 2

W-92, why you getting your panties all in a wad? Apparently, unless you're an illegal alien, your tax dollars are doing the same as mine in supporting public education. I believe every American is entitled to the best education possible. I also respect the diversity of America relative to religion in schools. Thankfully, there are places that address the mind, body, and spirit. What got my undergarment bunched up was, "illegal". To most, that equates to inducements. That is what is absurd. I've been in wrestling 40 years and you can believe me, inducements are very difficult to come by at any level in our sport. Recently, the Supreme Court addressed that high school coaches are not covered under free speech regarding athletics.(Brentwood Academy,TN) So, I guess that would now be illegal. However, I think parents, alumni and booster can still exercise free speech. Personally, the area is too gray for me.

    Proposal 2

Unless you want to clarify "illegally recruiting", I won't dignify that absurdity with a response. I just assume you say thank you to all of us who chose not to add to the burdens of public education with a greater population and continue to support you with our tax dollars.
