GOO is correct that the level of Ohio HS is above Indiana. Trouble with that statement relative to where the Kentucky teams travel is the best high school wrestling is in NE Ohio. No one from the Bluegrass makes that road trip for team competition.
-
I always thought Coach Matney wore that small school thing like a badge of honor. The complaints were loudest from Wayne County and LaRue.
-
That is a risk you take wrestling up. At one time, there was an understanding that if one competed at HS districts (that's when they had districts) that the wrestler would not compete at middle school. Uh, that didn't last long.

I did feel bad for the boys. I'm not here to defend Anderson County but, there was an "alleged" e-mail sent about the situation with the table workers asking for help. Wrestling for this age is about "life lessons" and I'm just advocating taking a bad situation and turning it into a learning opportunity. Under no circumstance should an adult swear at a child who is volunteering her Saturday. What got me was the tournament director's arrogance.

Stuff (forgive the misspelling) Happens. From Bad officiating to a tournament director who doesn't have a clue to adults berating little teenage girls working the tables. Here's a reminder to keep things in perspective. Was riding time kept when GOO wrestled? I don't remember the year but, I remember Dan Gable speaking to coaches at a camp/clinic saying that we needed to make some rule changes for our wrestlers to be more competitive on the international stage. The emphasis on takedowns is a result of that. I'm not ever going to challenge his wisdom. I think that is also why we are seeing how they are calling out-of-bounds in college today to mimic the continuation rule in freestyle and greco. One thing is for sure, NCAA and high school officiating is way more credible than international.

Every great program has a great feeder system too. Another key is that usually results in having a good practice partner. -

Since Ranger includes his guess on duals, this is on topic. In all sports, we hear the phrase "getting to the next level". I think that is where Southern is relative to the teams you mention. 1)You have to have a full team to compete. 2) You have to have a champion in the room. (I don't know that Southern has that) 3) If that champion has any leadership ability, it makes everybody in the room better and that is the next level for the Trojans IMHO. You can coach him up to his full potential and he can work his tail off but, here's a universal truism: There is nothing more powerful in a young person's life than peer pressure. 4) Build a tradition. Then you go from fielding a team to having a program. -
I for one look forward to the big man's return.

"knocked out"? 2003 doesn't seem that long ago but, if it were to happen today, he would not have been able to continue the match.
-
I hope he had Coach T's and Coach K's permission to do this. Good sportsmanship but, a possible violation of KHSAA rules.

The Middle School List - Preseason 2011/2012
tiltfor3 replied to Ranger123's topic in Youth Wrestling
Barton, (Shamrock Club) beat Heidorf (North Oldham) last week. There's a move-in from Oregon at Oldham, Tarrin Pulley(sp?) that will challenge Binder (River City). OC and NO looking plenty tough in the early season. River City is dominating. -

Who knows what time the Iowa-Penn State match is on the BTN for sure? I've seen conflicting times even though both say it is tape delayed.
