  1. It already costs a small fortune for middle school teams to get USA cards for all their wrestlers then another to enter the regional tourny. All for insurance that school teams do not need.  The poor and inner city teams can barely afford it now.  When their teams get larger it makes it almost impossible.

If people don’t like grade requirements, maybe we should go to USA age requirements. Wrestle your age division and that’s all. Too many options for parents and coaches. Make age, grade, and weight definitive. No percents on weight. Make a weight class. But that’s a whole other ball of wax.

Are you kidding me USA wrestling has already shanghaid our middle school programs.  You want to give them total control?

  3. Many schools have this problem.

Recruiting has to happen with the school.  You need support from the Football coach and athletic department. That can be difficult in KY for some reason.  Getting kids interested young is also important.  If you can get a kid interested in elementary school then they will continue through high school.  They will also get their friends involved.

However I have found this to be a double edged sword.  Getting these young kids interested in wrestling takes those athletes from the basketball team.  Which at our school is a no no. I was also told once by the athletic director that if I got to many football players on the wresting team then they would not have a football weight lifting program.

Just keep plugging away get more parents involved and pushing the program.  That is probably the number 1 thing that you can do.  If enough parents are pushing the school for the team then you can get their backing.

I can tell you this.  Way back in the early 80's when wrestling was not a big sport at Campbell. My parents and many of the other wrestling parents took control of the athletic boosters at Campbell and pushed wrestling hard.  You can see the outcome of that. Not saying that was the only factor but I believe it was a big factor.

  4. I've heard some rumblings about a possible huge transfer to the region 6 area.  That could really change the outlook of some of the team places.

I'll leave it at that, and see if anyone can expand on it, otherwise I'll believe the whispers were just whispers in the wind.

  5. On June 3rd at the Alexandria VFW a benefit is being held for Matt Shearer.

Matt is fighting stage 4 cancer.

Matt is the Campbell County High school undefeated Kentucky state champion at 185 in 1985.

He also started the wrestling program at Grant High school and coached their 1st state placer.

Matt also has a wife and kids who are standing next to him helping him along the way.

If you don't know mat he is built like a Grizzly Bear but has the heart of a Teddy Bear.

Please help him with whatever help you can spare, Hopes, prayers, thoughts, meditation, whatever you can to help this great individual in his fight for life.

    Signed

    Ken Bachman

  6. Boy that pee wee mind of yours can take things and twist them in ways that no one else sees. Oh well Tarzan, Beastboy, or whatever else you want to call yourself.  Go back to your dreamland and read more comic books.

OH and that kid you speak about is a better man than I am because he would never have done what I wished he would have done.  He is also twice the man you would ever wish to be.

I'm done with you.  I'm scrapping you off the bottom of my shoe and throwing you out the window.

I apologize to the rest of you who had to read this crap.

Heck if those two NKY kids were allowed to wrestle when they transferred after the school year started to a team that had a legit chance at a state title, then Brandon should be able to wrestle as well. Come on KHSAA, be consistent!

UK;  Its kind of like the thought on gun control.  People want to pass laws to restrict gun ownership.  This will work for those who will follow the law.  Those who want to bend or break the law will always find a way.

Just in case you are wondering I don't own a gun, but I am NOT for gun control.

  8. Great to see KHSAA changing with the times and keeping wrestling in their sights for once.

However:   This will take a while for many teams to catch up.  I'm not sure about most other teams but we are lucky IF we get new uniforms every 4 years.

Very Good day for Coach Price and the Bulldogs.

Like many of the teams they are missing 2-3 starters. But still filled 12 wt. classes.

Line up included 1 8th Grader 5 Freshman 3 Jrs and 2 Srs.

Coach Price deserves a big Kudo for building this Holmes team.  He has worked hard to get the numbers up and maybe now is starting to reep the benifits. Its one of the largest teams Holmes has had in regards to numbers in decades. Coach Cooper aslo deserves some credit for getting these young wrestlers ready while in the middle school.

  12. Pulled from the KHSAA handbook.

Sec. 14) SPORTS SPECIFIC LIMITATIONS- WRESTLING- BOYS

    a) Following the opening day of school, there shall be no organized practice prior to October 15.

b.)There shall be no more than two (2) practice meets prior to the fi rst regular season contest of that year.

    c) The fi rst match shall not take place prior to the Monday of Corresponding Week 21

  13. I know in the past.  Nky has tried over and over again to hold an AAU then USA tournaments.  It has never went over well.

Would this be the best way for NKU wrestling to make Money?   I don't know much about holding USA tourneys.  Does USA get a cut?  You would need certified officials??  Would the wrestlers need new USA cards?

How many Nky wrestlers have USA cards?

  14. I was under the impression that it was going to be a dual event.   If the teams are going to represent high school teams this would have to happen after Oct 15th.  That way high schools can be represented in a dual as a scrimmage.

I think if you have it after the practices start you will have more interest because it becomes a school event and not an individual event that the kids have to do on their own.  You are already not going to get the football players.

  15. Is there any open mats in Nky?

I have contacted SK and they are only allowed to allow their own school kids there.  CC holds it right after school and they get out at 2:30ish

Is there any other open mats?   I have a couple of kids who would be interested if it is close enough.

  16. Lol "apologist"... as mentioned above kids are competing NATIONALLY. If you cant afford $15 per style then I dont know what to tell you. Im fairly certain that 99% of of wrestlers, wrestling families, and coaches have been in this situation, where a tournament just isnt stacked. But you're the only one that took to a public forum to seek retribution. If you want to wrestle matches you should have put your kids on a bus to Indiana Pennsylvania and sent them to FloNationals. But Im guessing you couldnt afford that either...

385 if you don't think that cost is an issue for many kids I think  you are wrong.  Maybe not the $15-$30 for tourney entry, but travel and food costs also add into it.

I'm not talking about those wrestling families that sacrifice all so that little johnny can wrestle.  I'm talking about kids who have no support from home and have little income in the first place.  There are a lot more than you think out there in this situation.  Wrestling is expensive and time consuming.  Yes if you look hard enough you can find it, but we are talking about kids who can't or don't know how to look for help elsewhere.

I don't know the answer but I know charging $30 for 2-3 matches is not the answer.
