  1.      At our school we do not charge kids to participate.  If we did then there would be almost no participation in any of the sports. That is why it is costing a small fortune for us after we already are covered by school insurance.  I have been told in the past (By people from USA Wrestling) that we do not have insurance but whenever a kid gets hurt they are covered by the school insurance, doctor, hospital and therapy all covered.

  2.      After reading these minutes. Seems to me its about time that the school teams get together to form their own league. I know it is costing our school a small fortune to field a middle school team.  Paying for USA cards for the kids and coaches after they already have insurance.  As the middle school team gets bigger its harder and harder to sell this cost to the athletic department.

Seems ridiculous to me that the head coach and other coaches of the high school team cannot coach their own kids at middle school events.

Maybe it is just our school but are there any other school teams in this predicament?

  5. Why do you think to many are ranked?  The rankings are just informative.  My guess is that Ranger has all of them ranked so that he can easily move them up into the top 25 when they earn it.  I personally would like to see all of them.  I am just as interested in the #30 kid as I am in the #1 kid.  If you want you can see the all the NCAA rankings but only put the top 25 up front.

But who am I? Just an old fart holding on for dear life. Nobody including my wife listens to me anyway. :angry:

  6.      C'mon don't you know Ranger just puts names in a hat and pulls them out.  He does it like the NBA draft.  Each win gets your name in the hat again.  The reason it takes so long is that he has to fight his dog for the hat every day and therefore can only get one ranking updated a day.  :lol:

I'm not exactly sure how many wrestlers watch the rankings or use them as motivation and such.  I've always been the one that would prefer NOT to see my kids in the rankings that way you can go to a tournament and quietly win or lose. What I enjoy about the rankings is that it allows you to see who the better kids are, and look for some matchups.  Does not matter if its the 1v5 or 3v9 you know that it should be a good match.  It can also help coaches choose tourneys to attend by competition.

  8. Ksmith;  You can talk fundraiser all you want but they cannot and will not occur in our system.

The main reason is because they are not needed when the school pays for everything.  But they keep balking with the USA cards because they are not needed for out kids.  So why are they still being forced to buy one, when they are already covered under our school insurance?  The proof is in the pudding already this year 2 kids have been covered by our insurance one in high school and one in middle school.  Our coaches are covered also because they are employed by the high school, or have gone through the process to become unpaid coaches through the KHSAA rules.

As a parent/coach they tried to tell me I had to have a USA card to coach my son.  That to me as stated before is silly who am I going to sue?  Myself?  I have never had a USA card and coached my son for 7 years.

So I ask again why can't proof of insurance allow a school to participate?

  9.      I can tell you this at our school (Holmes) we are not allowed to charge kids to participate in sports, and if we did there would be no one playing sports.  As for fundraisers that is also not allowed, it has been tried in the past by other sports and the candy or other material never gets returned. The high school athletics must pay for everything.  As stated in other posts the poor and inner city schools is who this is affecting the most.  I know for us the budget has been cut and uniforms were not replaced (hence why all don't have the same uniform).  If the 300-500 dollars could be saved that would be a big savings for us.  Also we have had kids get injured at middle school matches and the school picked up the medical tab after the individual insurance was billed, The family does not have to pay one penny for an injury that occurs during a sporting event.
