    Master Schedule

Who all will be attending the Western Hills tourney? Is it a bracket or pool tourney? And are there any openings for another team. I only ask about Western Hills because it is closer to us.

    Calander of Events

Since the pre-season is about to start has anyone started an events calander? I will be helping the bulldogs of Holmes out again and we would like to fill a couple of openings. We have openings for JV, Freshman, and Varsity. If an events calander has not been started maybe we could start one. Thanks KB

Observations From High School State - Positive and Negative

I agree it is just a fancy barn. If your not going to give at least one set of brackets out, then there needs to be free wi fi available, or at least a place where you can look at the brackets on a TV screen. Parents and fans like to know what bout number their little johnny will be. And poor souls like myself cant afford to get one of those fancy dance i-whatever and have wi fi attached to it. Medels should be something to be proud of. When I saw the region medals I thought it was a joke. it didn't even have a ribbon to hang on the neck of the wrestler. The state medal should be gaudy (sp) to represent the hard work each wrestler put into recieveing it. Not a bottle cap with some words that old guys like me cant even read because its to small. As for the ohio wrestlers. It is the only true good excusse that I have heard for keeping middle schoolers from wrestling high school. We don't want to become a minor league for Ohio middle schoolers. As for looking at the ring, well I know at least one who does not wear it and has thought about pawning it a couple of times because it means very little to him. And don't take away the rest of the team that helped earn those rings it was 14 plus high school wrestlers that earned them. Not coaches, not friends and especially not parents, the wrestlers themselves earned those rings nothing more.

    State Duals Pools and Results

OK I have not said much because I was waiting for Jr. to get back to wretling shape. I believe he is there now and is fully on board. He came home from practice ate a small dinner, then left the house with his backpack on with 45lbs of weight in it. He walked around yesterday, after a morning run, with the backpack full and went all day in school with it on. (I think he said ATM told him to do this). You may have underestimated him at 160. He should get a pin there. If not for a bad call from the official agains Old Co. MacIntosh he would have won that match. (Took him down 2 or 3 times). I'm not sure how you get 2 reversal, 2 nearfall and another 2 near fall from one peterson, but that was the call. So he was down 6-2 at the end of the 1st instead of 4-2. I know MacIntosh bumped up but Jr. weighed in at 153.6, so there was not wt. advantage. Not a big deal CC still won the dual but Jr. was not happy at all. Campbell gets the pin at 160, 170, and 182.

    TATES CREEK DUALS

Great job getting us out early sat. was back in nky by 6. 5 mats constantly on the go. Saw some decent wrestlig. But saw the greatest wrestling that I was not sure I was going to see this year. I got to see my son wrestle his senior year. He was rusty only being out a week but at least he was on the mat. Maybe the greatest early christmas present I could have gotten.

    Recreating our records

FCHS/ I can tell you for certain that the KHSAA has the state brackets at least back to 1971. (I gave them to Julian Thaket myself). I also gave him some statistics that I had compounded through those years. He told me that he had tracked down copies of the state brackets all the way back to the first state tourney. He promised me copies of them however since he has become the Commissionor he has reniged on his promise to me. I do not have these brackets on my computer only hard copies. I also stopped compiling my statistics in 2000 because Julian said he would keep it up to date after that year. I don't believe these records need to be re-created just put back on the website.

Former Christian County Coach Jim Perrin

I didn't know coach Perrin personally but I know of his teams and especially his son. I ran into him twice in the Semi-finals of the state tourney. Coach Perrin was one of the coaches that solidified wrestling in WKy during the 80-90's. He will be missed greatly by many.
  12. Let me answer this question. HE DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE RANKED. Now I say this with love since he's my boy. But he has done nothing to get ranked yet. He did have a great day in Chilicothy, but had terrible days at Cincy state and Bluegrass games. The only consolation is that he was wrestling 170 at Cincy and Bluegrass and 160 in Chilocothy. Depending on what Hamilton and Stephen does will determine what he does. Other than those two he should be able to defeat any of the others. I know they have been talking and Kent says he can go down to 145 (I don't thik he can) if need be, but if Homilton makes 145 then he will be wherever Stephen is not 152/160. Otherwise I'm not sure he will go 170, or what he will do. But he has to get his head on straight. I know as do others that when he has his head on straight there are very few that he cannot seriously compete with in KY. On the other hand when his head is not there there are few that he can defeat. Those that know Kent know he is a late season wreslter. He limps into the season and usually ends a lot better in the post season. (he has done this almost his entire wrestling career).

    2012-2013 State tournament.

Assuming that the world does not end in December of this year. Are you looking forward to another state tourney at the kentucky Horse Park? I don't mean the actual wrestling, I'm talking about the venue itself. What improvements are you hoping for and what are you hoping they keep from last years extravaganza? It's still early enough that some things could still be changed if need be.

    Schools Adding wrestling

Mpire: One of the HUGE differences between Ky and other states is how football coaches view wrestling. I'm not saying it is all the football coaches in KY but it is a high number. We all know as wrestlers/parents/coaches/fans that wrestling will help football in numerous ways. Boone Co. lost their program years ago because of their legendary coach Houk. Even at good ole Campbell their are coaches that frown on wrestling. I've heard it 1st hand from my son. Conner has had difficulty since their new football coach arrived. He frowns on wrestling, I knew this before he went to Conner. Highland has never had wrestling and you should know that town lives for football and football only, with a dash of basketball. NCC had a team years ago, Cov Cath was rumored to have a middle school program starting because of a coach that wrestled in Ohio, but it didn't happen for some reason. If you want a good example of how football and wrestling go hand in hand look at Central High School both programs are doing very well now that the coach is doing both.

    2012-2013 State tournament.

Wow; Two Robert E Lee references. You better explain that one, it could be taken in a very serious bad way. As for the discussion; I've been involved for over 25 years and wrestled for 4 years in Ky and have seen great improvements in facilities and wrestling in KY. Up untill about 1990 the state tourney was being held at a high school gym (that did not have a wrestling team). Moved to Frankfort, the capital and bigger arena, Now to an even bigger arena. We went from about 50 schools with wresting in Ky to about 90-100 today. There was no middle school toutnament until 2000 and no middle school coaches assosiation until 2003. The 1st Youth state tourney was about 2004. All of this was because of people getting together and finding new ways of doing things. Yes we borrowed, used and stole ideas from other places, but we also have put a Ky spin on things. We Kentucky wrestlers have been looked down on by big brother Ohio for years, so we may have knee jerk reactions to those outside of Ky who critisize us. And MPire Moe has been doing those type of things for years. When we won a Tourney in Ohio my Jr. year at CC and beat Moe and others. We were not asked back, we were told by the hosting school that if we returned then Moe and others would not attend. Even this year at the GMV when Ky (SK, Ryle, and CC) was winning several light wt. classes the crowd was getting hostel against Ky wrestlers calling names and such.

Still nothing in NKY? C'mon guys or is no one going?

    2012-2013 State tournament.

I think those discussions don't occur in Ohio becuase they don't have the passion that Ky has with their state tourneys. They are not looking to make it better, only keeping what they have. I think it is awsome that there are many Ky parents, coaches, fans that want to help improve Ky wrestling and the way it is handled. Like you said every state is unique, I don't mind taking some ideas from other states but I don't want to mimic them. Going to Ohio, Indiana, Illinios, Missourri,Tennesee, Virginia or West Verginia (KY borders 7 states only Tenn has more with 8) to wrestle is not the issue. Leaving the state and wretling only makes every team better no matter where they go. You see different competiton and different techniques. I think some teams however don't spend enough time in their own state and don't see their in state competition. As for the "Spectacle" we hillbillies in Ky like the spectacle and if we like it what does it matter if another state does not?

    2012-2013 State tournament.

Well if Ohio runs their state tourney like someone who has a stick up their rear end, then I'm glad we are in Ky. The state tourney is not a business meeting, its a time for kids, parents, grandparents, and fans to have a good time while watching some good wrestling. Look at the extravaganza that will happen next week at the MLB All Star Game. It's a fun event for everyone. The competitoin would not change in Ky if they wrestled in Shott (Never been there or even know where it is) or at the Horse Park. The same kids step up and wrestle no matter where its being held. I've been around long enough in that we use to wrestle our state tourney at a High School in Lou (Atherton) which in most years did not even have a wrestling team. Then we moved to Frankfort the excitement improved, now I believe we are taking a step backwards at the Horse Park. I like how the stands are up from the mats and only participants can get near the floor. Yea lets continue fallowing Ohio wrestling and we will always be their little brother.

I don't know about the rest of you but I think the scoreboards need to be a little larger. Being the 1st time i've been in the stands since 82, I could barely make out the scores on most of the matches. You gotta give us old folks a break, we like to see the score and the time of matches going on.

teams that have the biggest advantage

I hope to keep everyone entertained. Nice guys finish last, I'm not a nice guy any more. (at least for 1 year)
  21. bulldog-leader

teams that have the biggest advantage

since you don't want it to be about you then I'll say the same thing about the rest of the senior class you grew up with. Most of them don't know how good they could be with hard work. You are the wt. loss king, that is true. With the exception of J. Lee I don't know if anyone could drop wt. as fast as you can. Just to define hard work; Hard work is trying to be 1st in all sprints, trying to be 1st in all running, all push up, all set up, and killing the weight room. Just learning moves and drilling them is not all that is needed. Pushing yourself every day to the point wher when practice is over you can barely stand up. That is true hard work. Just remember you can lie to everyone but one person, the one that counts, YOURSELF.
  22. bulldog-leader

teams that have the biggest advantage

No doubt about your ability, I just don't think you actually know how good you can/could be. With hard work no one would touch you this year at the wt. class you choose. The only one who could is on your team. If you would have worked HARD since your freshman year, you and Stephen would have been talked about hand in hand, and the jugernaught from SK, Mr. Cooper may have been staying out of your wt. class.

teams that have the biggest advantage

It's obvious that winning is not everything. I spent most of my life as a Camel even when I coached 10 years outside the system. I returned at the request of campbells head, I was his assistant for 12 years through the 90's. I also returned because of my son. The ring means nothing, I already have 2 from the 90's. Yes Kent may have one but it means very little to him. I've never seen him wear it. Maybe when he is an adult he may savor it more. As I have stated several times. My beef is not with you your sons or any of the other wrestlers. It is with KHSAA, CC, and it's staff. It's unfortunate that you and our sons are in the crossfire. I have done nothing nor will I do anything to hinder anyones success. I will be at every event next year as a perent not a coach. I have a mat in my basement and if any one of the kids (your son's included) can come over and use it or ask for help from me. I'm not sure if I can help any of them but I'll do my best to try. As you mentioned I wanted to lite a fire under the seniors this year (the reasons for me posting). I did not change the topic "yaknowwhatimean" (see post #23).
