Montgomery County Central Kentucky Challenge Results

As a spectator, you want to see the best matches in finals. Didn't happen here. As DW stated, it didn't look like the pools were evenly split. It can be hard to seed a tournament at the beginning of a season, but if i'm not mistaken Gray, Campbell Co, Fern Creek, and Elkorn have been among the the state's best middle school programs for the last several years. The four of them probably should not have all been in one pool. What was the criteria to determine pools? Was there a coaches meeting to determine pools?

COACH'S HOSPITALITY ROOM AT ELEM. STATE

I have to agree with those thoughts. Great job on the tourney running smoothly, especially when you take into account the number of matches that were wrestled that day. I think things went according to plan and were very efficient. However, the lack of a hospitality room for coaches was very disappointing. I don't think it would have taken much to insure that coaches were able to get a drink and a quick bite of anything, a ham sandwich would have been fine. The lines at the concession were generally so long that coaches wouldn't be able to wait if they had multiple kids wrestling in that time frame. Part of the responsibility of running a tourney, especially one of that magnitude, is to provide the coaches with someplace to grab a beverage without the hassle of waiting in line for 5 or 10 minutes. I know from talking to some of the fern creek parents that they were a little embarrassed about not being able to provide a hospitality room for the coaches. With the amount of revenue generated, it should not have been unreasonable to feed that many people. Having said that, i still appreciate all the work and effort that went into making that tournament run smoothly. It was a great day of wrestling and Kentucky wrestlers are definitely on the way up.

    region upsets

Honestly, it's silly to say just dominate and u don't have to worry about it. Two wrestlers/teams of equal skill/strength/technique can be so equal that one bad call by the official can change everything. I've been involved in sports for over 30 years, referees can decide matches and games, it happens all the time. The more experience a referee has the less likely it is to happen, the more likely they are to make the correct call. Kentucky's referees need more experience and more training, as ranger has stated. No first year referee should have the responsibility of dealing with a regional tournament. Unfortunatly, bad calls will continue to decide matches, i'm sure we will see it happen this weekend.

    region upsets

I was at the region 7 tourny and i can tell that there were some questionable calls by the officials. Most were made by a young, first year (i believe), referee that clearly shouldn't have been doing a regional tournament. Anyways, i saw several wrestlers lose close matches with questionable calls. Jones(FC 140) was a wrestler capable of placing in state that was a victim of several bad calls. Strangely, the same young referee was on the mat for both of his questionable matches.

Was FYFFE's transfer to WOODFORD Illegal?

A Franklin County wrestler told me at the beginning of the season that Fyffe transfered for wrestling. He also said that both Fyffe and Phillips(FC 160 last year) skipped school and talked to Coach Carr right after last season was over. I don't think any sort of changing of schools for athletics should be allowed. That just leads to recruitment of high school athletes. It seems to have gotten Lexington Catholic in trouble with the Lexington Schools.

    Kenton Co. Trophy

I agree he can win it at either weight. I was just saying there is no reason to fight your weight if you are the best wrestler at both weights classes.

    region 6

If he is having trouble making 152, he should go 160. Although he would probably win it at either weight, 160 is easier than 152. Wolsifer is a much improved wrestler from last year and he was already extremely good. 160 doesn't have a whole lot to offer. I'm suprised other 152's havn't decided to bump up to 160 and make a run at a championship. With Cooper and Wolsifer at 152, it would be tough for anyone else to take that weight class. At 160 Woodford is mediocre and caldwell is out of shape.

    Kenton Co. Trophy

Wrestling someone close and having an actual chance of winning are two different things. I agree hildreth and king can keep the score respectable, but very doubtful they could beat him. Just my opinion. I'd say wolsifer is a bit tougher than any of the 160's.

    Kenton Co. Trophy

It night be smart for the cooper's to bump up, especially the 152. If he bumps up to 160, there is no one who can give him a match. There isn't anyone at 160 that could give the top 3 at 152 a decent match. Why struggle with weight when you you'll have an easier road to the championship at the next weight up?

    region 8

I would bump sanders up to 160. Not much in the state at 160. Definitly the weakest weight class i've seen in years.
