    Taping matches (Dads With Wrestlers)

You must not have read the last sentence. I agree, it doesn't specifically mention parents compliance.

    Taping matches (Dads With Wrestlers)

Bylaw 11 of the khsaa handbook specifically addresses taping and gives a case example. Bottom line, it is not permitted. I agree, we live in a competitive world. But to say that it should be ok would be like saying that Martha Stewart wasn't guilty of insider trading......she was just being "competitive". Whether or not parents are held to the same rule is more of a gray area than determining whether or not taping is allowed.

    JV State

There are schools out there that do have teams big enough to field a complete line-up for JV....and then some. I hardly think that giving these young men (or women) a tournament is a waste of time or money. I can't think of a better way to build depth in a program, actually. My guess is that if the coaches felt it was a waste of time they wouldn't have supported it. I say good luck to all of the wrestlers at the tournament.

    State Finals Predictions

They wrestled at GMVWA Holiday Tournament this year. Neal did go three rounds with him and I believe the previous post had the correct score (5-3). However, I don't see that happening again.......They may hit up this weekend.....or some other time before State. My prediction-Mason via fall.

    State Finals Predictions

I think you will soon owe Matt Neal an apology as it appears that you have called Mason out on Matt's behalf. Let's wish them both luck.

    Campbell vs. Ryle

I would say they are shaping up quite well. Impressive results at this past weekends Holiday Tournament at GMVWA. Second place in large school division, 4th overall. Results can be found by accessing http://www.baumspage.com/gmvwa/res07.htm
  10. That was last year------get out of the past. Different wrestler this year.

Neal did not make weight this morning....that is my understanding.

    Ryle

Good wrestling teams do not make excuses. CC won NKAC....Ryle won the earlier dual. Apparently in the first dual CC did not have all their kids in their line up. At NKAC Ryle was missing 5 starters.....Peace, Reid, Pickett (out for the CC match only-injured in previous round), Gilliland and Marlo. On any day things can change....with an individual wrestler or with a team. They (CC and Ryle) are both solid teams.
  13. If he was stalling it would have been called. Nice to see you have your team mates back, though.

    YOUTH WRESTLING MEETING

Kentucky State Youth Wrestling Association Minutes-October 14, 2007 Meeting called to order by Stan Martin. Attendance: Stan Martin (Ryle & Pres), Lori Osborne (Ryle & Sec), Herman Preston (Johnson Co.), Efren Quirno (River City, and VP), Travis Cash (McCreary), Ted Cash (mcCreary), Robert Jones (McCreary), James Jude (Johnson Co), Trip Bisenius (So Oldham), Randy Wheeler (So Oldham), Frank Gercak (No Oldham), Justin Bozeman (McCreary), Bob Bunker (River City), Thomas Watson (Fern Creek) Reviewed and approved minutes of March meeting. Reviewed Bylaw 6 I)-due to the fact that the middle school board reviewed the five match rule and decided not to change it, the issue of the bracket size for KY Youth State was addressed. Since it is not optimal for kids to wrestle more than 5 matches in a day or win via forfeit the voting members unanimously voted to keep brackets at size of 8. Issues: State Tournament: Johnson Central to host the State Tournament for 2008. Date of March 1, 2008 Each team will weigh-in their own team at their site and rosters with weights to be sent to Johnson Central by Tuesday February 26, 2008. Fax or email submission preferred. Hosting site will do verification weigh-ins. Kids must make weight as submitted or they will scratch

    Youth Meeting

FYI- The meeting for this Sunday has been postponed until Sunday September 23, 2007. The reason for postponing is due to the fact that numerous reps/officers were unable to make the 17th. The most passionately debated issues of the bylaws were still left to resolve, and we do not want any region to feel like they were unrepresented at the meeting. Please let me know if you can make the 23rd.

    Youth Wrestling Bylaws

I am attaching the DRAFT of bylaws that have been proposed to govern KY Youth wrestling. It is intended that this information be widely reviewed and feedback given to your region representative before the Board votes in June. If you do not know who your region rep is, please PM me and I will give you their contact information. Please let me know your name, and affiliated team in KY Youth wrestling. I am reluctant to post their contact information on a public forum as I have not asked their permission to do so. If you are a region rep and would like to share your contact information that would be great. Encourage other interested individuals to visit this site and review this important information and provide feedback to their region reps. [attachment deleted by admin]

    Youth Communication

At the KY Elementary State Tournament this weekend a meeting was held on Friday night to discuss the formation of an association to help organize wrestling for youth within the state. A Board has been elected and an Advisory Board of experienced coaches and mentors was named. Minutes from the meeting were taken and we seek to distibrute as much communication to interested parties as we can. Communication has been lacking within the state as well as a forum to orgnaize the sport. We are committed to trying to change that. If you are a coach or other interested party affiliated with a youth wrestling team/club within KY and would like to receive these forms of communications please PM me your name and email address and let me know if you are a coach, etc, and what team/club you are affiliated with.

    Any Elementary Predictions?

It's hard to say-I don't know that there has been broad enough competition in the state to predict such a thing. However, I want to wish all teams and kids the best of luck for a competitive, enjoyable and injury free tournament.
  25. I thought maybe I'd throw a couple of things out here for folks to give some consideration to before the meeting on Friday. I know we can't solve all the woes in one night, but I don't want us acting with "knee jerk" reactions without having time to think things through. One of the things we may be able to consider is to have 2 divisions of youth wrestling in the state. One that conforms with the Oct/Nov to Feb/March timeframe and one that starts later. Call me pessimistic, but I don't see us making enough headway to get everyone on the same timeline by next year or even the year after that. But if we acknowledge the two divisions and can communicate each schools choice, then they can have tournaments (regular tournaments, regional tournaments, and each division could hold state tournaments) in both divisions. I think and hope that over time, one of the divisions would have more teams and better competition, and eventually the others would migrate to the bigger division, and in a few years we would be on the same page. Just a thought. I understand that in some areas of the state they start later because the middle school and high school coaches handle youth as well and can't start until those are finished. In other areas they built their programs to be in sync with MS and HS, and that way their athletes don't have to choose between wrestling and football or baseball or soccer. Also-I am hoping that we can recruit leadership to help youth wrestling grow within the state. It is my understanding that there may or may not have been an election last year, but whatever happened, we have a President. Is our state program any better off this year than we were last year? I can't answer that question for anyone except for the team that I am affiliated with, but my response would be no. If your team's answer is no, then please come Friday night and give thoughtful consideration to volunteering to help us grow this sport statewide. If your answer is yes, then please come and share what was done to improve the state program. As we continue to move forward we can all learn from each other, but we need to establish a forum for communication and collaboration. If we do this effectively, our kids are the beneficiaries. Please post your topics if you have suggestions for consideration. Please refrain from slamming anyone else's ideas or "griping". Let's brainstorm and be open to everyone's suggestions and be respectful of their thoughts.
