I somewhat agree that these rankings don't mean much, especially once two kids step onto the mat. But I think they are great to generate some excitement around individuals, teams, dual meets, or tournaments. What better way to get some fans interested in coming out to a meet than to say "Come out and see us against Fern Creek, the #4 team in the state" or "we're wrestling Simon Kenton which has 2 kids ranked #1 in the state". And the only way that works is if the rankings are reasonable, credible, and based on as much information as possible, which is what I'm trying to do.

I still think Aylor will be a force, just may have a tough region to deal with. I have seen Warner this year and think Miller is better, who has been beaten by Veach twice.
My goal is to get as many results from the weekend as possible (such as NKAC and Bourbon Bash last week) and update rankings each Wednesday.

I don't want to bash Coach Coomes because I know that he doesn't receive all of the information that he needs to do this effectively. BUT, I think there is some information out there that can be used to make a better ranking system. So, I have searched the web for newpapers and team sites and watched and read about as many meets as possible and come up with my own version of the Kentucky High School Wrestling Rankings. And I welcome any and all criticisms and potential corrections that you have. There are still a few wrestlers that I haven't seen results for and don't have a good idea what weight they are wrestling. So let me know what you have seen if I have something wrong.

I think South Oldham is equal to Woodford. To start you have Scott and Scherer, equal to anyone in the state. Even though they don't have as much top level talent as Woodford after that, they are returning 14 state qualifiers. With that experience, they will score points.
-
I am confident that Harrison can place top 5. I don't know about knocking off the top 3 or 4 (Woodford, South Oldham, Ryle, Larue), but they are as good as anyone else. Here are guys that can place at state, not just win matches: Whalen, Wasson, Ashbrook, Ross, Sanders, Doyle (new from IN), and Aubrey. If my count is right, that is 7. Kendall and Ward also were state qualifiers last year and will win a match or two. There are your 9 guys.

I agree it will vary and be driven by the administration. I have coached at two small private schools, where wrestling was not high on the priority list and made between $1500 and $2000 as head coach.
-
Jon Wiard from Frankfort. He was smooth as silk and was unstoppable with his cradle.
-
I remember Pat Martz. He was pretty scary. He could tie you up like a pretzel if you blinked.
-
jphillips - One of my favorite wrestlers of all time happened to be from Danville. Dicky Casselman was a state champ in 1991 (I think).
I'm from Harrison County and my vote goes to Roy Gibbs (state champ '92 and 4 x state placer).

Thanks for the feedback.
Joey Sanders is not ranked because I had no idea where to put him. I saw some dual results (from TN) that showed him at 160. So I was waiting for an update on him. I missed the Courtney over Cooper result, though I agree Cooper looked tough last weekend.
