    Rebel Rankings #2005-3

There are always others on the list, but I have limited it to a certain number each week. For example, I have 25 guys on my list at 112, but only 18 at 130. But to limit the variation from week to week I want to wait and see more results before I expand to more and more. I am also collecting roster information on all teams (I currently have a decent roster for about 53 teams) so I could theoretically rank every team at every weight. But there are two good reasons not to do it. First, that would take a lot more time to get it right. Second, I don't think it would benefit anyone to show that John Doe who wrestles for Team X is the worst wrestler in the state at 125. He probably knows that he stinks and doesn't need to see it on here. To finally answer your question, yes, the newly ranked guys are there for a reason.

Agree. If he can pull off the 4x champ feat, he gets my vote. Especially considering who he will have to go through (at least at this point) this season.

    Rebel Rankings #2005-2

The second edition of my rankings are included below. I have included the top 12 this week. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks I will have enough information for a top 20. Thanks for all of the feedback. Keep it up. I have yet to see many results from the Bruin duals, but with the WCI and Wayne county duals this week things should start to get more interesting. And before anyone starts screaming about Murton, I'm not moving him until he at least weighs in a few times for 135 or there is more solid reason to believe he is dropping. 103 Way Co Travis Sullivan Un Co Adam Carr Wood Co Shane Parks PD Jon Voth Tri Dan Smith Whit Co Dalton Evans FC Tommy Warren SO Paul Huhnke Sen Elliott Martin Ryle Casey Chitwood Mc Cen Daniel Bowling NO Andre Zeppa 112 Wood Co Coty Lewis JC Cory Spencer Eas Joaquin Luna Un Co Chance Puckett Way Co Coty Vinsant NO Antonio Zeppa HC Matt Zarth Cam Co Korey Shotwell Scott Gabe Supe CH Mason Bradbury NH Josh Johnson SO Steve Vaughn 119 FC Caleb Wood PD Tyler Voth SO Daniel Murner Wood Co John Smith Old Co Eric Warner JH Justin Pitcher Un Co Isaac Ervin Lar Co Lucas Carmen Sen John Chui And Co Clayton Stocker Way Co Bryan Daniels PRP Corey Mills 125 SO Derek Scott Wood Co Rusty Parks Mc Cen Eric Bryant JH Cassidy Veach Old Co Ben Warner Lar Co Stacy Miller St X Tyler Baines Cald Co Marcus Coleman Con Rashad Brown NH Matt Eck Sou Louis Ashley Har Co Jacob Kendall 130 Lar Co Ozzy Parker Ryle Bryan Peace Cam Co Ben Rust Tri Mike Bowlds FC Malcolm Jackson Wood Co Butler Har Co Bryan Wasson AB Trace Stafford Eas Paul Marks Sen Zach Poulton JH Shane Warren And Co Shane Carey 135 Har Co Josh Ashbrook SC Brandon Howard Lar Co Matt Miller Tri Ben Case FC Tyler Weldon Wood Co Chad Scott Chr Co Cameron Bibbs Scott Chad Ryder NO Tom Kusnir Laf Carlos Gomez Ft Camp Rob Caracillo NH Chris Range 140 Law Co Jacob Murton Scott Daniel Thueneman Sou Joe Powers Har Co Beau Sanders Ft Camp Matt Mines FC Kevin Stewart Hol John Golsby Lar Co Evan Smith Ohio Co Wesley Kiper And Co Jacob Spaulding Ryle Clint Hovecamp Un Co Miles Risinger 145 Wood Co Harrison Courtney SK Josh Cooper Cam Co Brian Wilson Ryle Rob Aylor Lar Co Patrick Banks Un Co Mitch Ervin Way Co Tim Winchester SO Bryan Ford FC Ben Barger Vall Daniel Rader DH Bob Woods Sen Beau Godegard 152 SK Austin Cooper FC John Wolsiefer Cald Co Cody Traylor Lar Co Scott Wheeler SO Ben Greco Way Co Joey Sanders NH Ty Wolf CH J. It is a 2-day tournament (yesterday and today). I'm heading that way in the next few minutes to catch some good action.

Tiger06, I guess I gave too much credibility to a previous post regarding intended weight classes for some of the Caldwell guys. In an early season dual they referred to Coleman at 30 and Leach at 25, but both planned to drop. I know Leach has made it, but it appears Coleman is having trouble or doesn't intend to drop. We'll give him another week.

Teresa Baker, Did Ballinger go 5-0 against Trinity (Clark), Oldham Co (Young), Ft. Knox (Bailey), and 2 others? Or do I have the teams wrong?

colonel130, Who does Malcolm move ahead of? Parker is the clear #1, IMO. Peace appears to be a clear #2, IMO. Rust has only lost to Peace, that I know of. Plus, he has lost to Bowlds. You can maybe argue Rust is too high, but that is it. As for Oldham, who is at 130 now. I saw Morlatt get hurt a few weeks ago. Is he back? If so, he will be in the rankings. No one else has done anything to be ranked. As for the other 130's and any rankings below the top 8 at most weights, these are a real stretch. It will take a few more tournaments and guys settling into their weights before the #9-20 kids are more solid. Who does Cory Armstrong wrestle for?

The team rankings are a state tournament finish, not head to head in a dual.

    BETTER REFS

There is your dilema. If you make it more of a pain on the officials, there will be even fewer than we currently have. I don't know what the answer is. Maybe you have to pay the guys more to get them interested. If you think about it, $150 for an all day tournament isn't that good. You arrive for weigh-ins around 8:00 and hope to finish up the finals of some tournaments by 9 or 10 o'clock. That's about $10 an hour, but these are guys who work all week and are giving up their Saturdays for this. But I know the programs and schools are strapped for $, so that is not an easy answer.

iceman, Who have they beaten on the list? When I look at the Lonesome Inv results it looks like they were not in the finals and the tournament wasn't exactly stacked at those weights. Were they in the consolation finals?

grappler, IMO and as much as I hate to say it, no way anyone (including Larue) is within 10 pts of Woodford at state. You never know how the brackets will fall, but they could possibly put 8 guys in the finals.

    New & Improved Rankings

I don't want to bash Coach Coomes because I know that he doesn't receive all of the information that he needs to do this effectively. BUT, I think there is some information out there that can be used to make a better ranking system. So, I have searched the web for newpapers and team sites and watched and read about as many meets as possible and come up with my own version of the Kentucky High School Wrestling Rankings. And I welcome any and all criticisms and potential corrections that you have. There are still a few wrestlers that I haven't seen results for and don't have a good idea what weight they are wrestling. So let me know what you have seen if I have something wrong. New & Improved Rankings

You are basicly right. Once two guys step on the mat, rankings mean nothing. Its all about what you have put into it and how much heart you have. But that doesn't make ranking pointless. For the outside world rankings are important. Look at most of the newpaper articles that get published. They always refer to a team or individual ranking. And my main point in this effort is that our rankings can be better. Again, no offense to Coach Coomes, but he is not exactly impartial (not saying he favors his guys, but some may question) and he isn't able to get all of the information he needs. I am going to extra efforts to get the most info possible. And I still miss some. I have viewed this topic from all possible perspectives: wrestler (#1 ranked), coach (kids not ranked that were pretty good), and fan (wondering how good an opponent is of a friend or family member who is wrestling). And that's why I'm doing this. Because I think it will be at least interesting to some people. And who knows, maybe one day it will actually be useful to a lot of people beyond this site.

    New & Improved Rankings

I sure hope you feel better after all that. First of all, it is my time I'm wasting and if you don't think they mean anything, why do you care? Second, you're probably just mad because you or your buddy aren't ranked high enough or at all. If so, follow your own advice and do something about it. Third, I'm not trying to change Coach Coomes' mind. I'm just presenting an alternative (I think better) option for rankings. I have been a coach and have some idea how busy he is and that he doesn't get the support of all of the other coaches. Finally, you are correct. Luna and Spencer will likely have the chance to settle things on the mat. And I really couldn't care less who wins, I am just presenting my best guess at this point. As for Coty Lewis, he is the returning 112 runner-up. And I've seen him wrestle for a few years. I've also seen Luna quite a bit. In my opinion, Lewis is much better. We'll probably see next week at the WCI.

TroJanMan112, No offense at all. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I welcome them all. They actually help. Yes, Lewis is now the man at 112. He still needs to get into wrestling shape (and it may show at the WCI), but in the end he will be the man to beat. As for your list, Spencer beat Luna head-to-head at state last year. Other than that I think we're pretty close. A lot will work itself out in the next week.

Completely disagree with the Stacey Miller comment. He pinned his way through to the semis (including a match against Jackson) and beat a pretty tough Trimble easily.

    New & Improved Rankings

157, I'm all over those. I arrived just in time to see Woodford destroy Harrison. Yes, these are all opinions. And it will really get down to opinion when you have the "triangle of death" and everyone has beaten the other. IMO, head to head is #1 (unless there is something weird, like Parks injury or my opinion that Bryant was too sick to wrestle), common opponents #2, and early on history is #3. Another big factor is performing in the spotlight. If you beat a guy in a dual, but lose to him in the finals of a big tournament, the spotlight match matters most to me. Because that is more like the state tournament.

    Weakest weight class so far?

One important difference for Fyffe this season. He works out in a little place called Versailles, KY. They tend to produce some pretty tough kids. But I won't completely disagree that it isn't the most proven bunch and the 145 guys could challenge them.
  24. Ranger123

    New & Improved Rankings

I know Malcom is tough, but Bryant was very sick when they wrestled. Plus he followed it up by losing at KOB. And I need to see a little more from Bowlds.
