Good: I think the officials were pretty consistent. This is the first year they have really emphasized stalling, so there is no way to be perfectly consistent. But overall I think they did a pretty good job. Bad: After all of the bad mouthing of Woodford Co that goes on, I was sickened by the Larue boos of Eric Bryant. You can point to one or two kids or fans that are bad sports for a lot of teams, but that was a "team" effort boo. It will be a long time before I forget that sad display by those fans. FYI, you may be the favorites going into next season, but I'll be rooting for someone else.

Better watch out, I hear he is cutting to infinity-40. He's doing it for the team. It is a lot of weight, but he is dedicated and such a team player.

I agree there were some officials on the mat this past weekend that shouldn't have been. But the only way to fix that is to get more qualified officials around this state. Think about it. We had 7 regional tournaments going on Saturday (I think region 3 was on Friday?) each needing 3 maybe 4 officials. Unfortunately, we just don't have 30 really good officials. Plus, there are some guys who can't do it for one reason or another and some who don't want to because of all of the politics and pressure. If you are unhappy with the guys in stripes, the only way to fix it is to encourage your former wrestlers to get involved by becoming an official. Also, I think we need to find some way to do some training for officials. I know I have been one and have done regional tournaments before. Basically, you pass your take home test and walk on the mat. It seems like we could get together for a few scrimmages or early season meets and let the experienced guys train the new and less experienced officials.

I was at the tournament from beginning to end and think you guys are a big deal over nothing. Yes, the announcer did a lot of screaming all day about staying in the stands, but as far as I could tell there were no issues. And in my opinion, it was the most well behaved I have ever seen the Woodford Co. coaches regarding coaches in the corner (except for the incident with Joe Sr. and Coach Headley from Henry Clay). But at no point did you have lots of people crowding the mats and getting in the way of the scorers table. In a gym that size and with the layout of the mat during finals, just because a fan is not sitting in the stands doesn't mean they are crowding the mat and causing problems.

I agree with Pappy. I can see maybe predicting an upset over Parker, but not top 4 based on one match. Come on. He has been dominant all season and remember, he has been there before. Bryant has a tough road, Miller, Scott, and Warner to take it all. That seems like a lot to ask. Starks handled the pressure last weekend pretty well. He looked impressive. I know state is a whole different level of pressure, but remember, he will have a few of his friends down in the warmup area with him.

For he final rankings before the Regional Tournament I have added a few more wrestlers to each weight class. Most weights go to about 25, but some to about 30. I wanted to include as many potential state qualifiers as possible by adding the guys I have been watching in addition to the usual ranked guys. There will be others who qualify for the state tournament, but mainly in less competitive weights/regions, like those where there are only 3 or 4 kids. I will try to post an update as early as possible next week after I have reviewed the brackets. This should give us a much better idea on the team finish as well. That said, I'm still a little shocked that he could dominate Murton to that degree. But he does have a lot more experience at this point in his career.

That makes me feel much better about myself. I wrestled Cooper a year or so ago at an off season tournament and only lost 20-5. I went for a desperation lateral drop early in the 3rd to put myself out of my misery. Plus I was giving up 20 pounds to him.

I think the reason for the 32 man bracket is to get more kids, parents, and fans involved in the state tournament so they can see what an awesome event it is, THE BEST IMO. So by exposing more people to it there should be more interest generated in the sport. I'm not sure it's working, but I think the theory makes sense.

UC112 - the rankings aren't perfect and as mentioned maybe some of the guys on the other side are peaking at the right time. I know that Johnson had a great regional tournment beating Carmen and Bradbury. Plus Lewis coming in as a #2 and Zarth #3 throws the bracket a little. But the Montgomery Co. kid was hot on the right night.

Why do you say it's funny? Unless there were some sportsmanship issues I think that shows a lack of class by you to laugh at those guys for getting excited over a huge region championship and then realize there was an error and you lost it. Those guys have worked hard all year just like you (or your team).

grappler-of-old - I'm working the brackets and will have to agree. Larue did have a couple of let-downs (Carmen and Perez to good opponents), but they are definitely in the running. And I'm not jumping on the bandwagon, just stating the facts.

I'm not blaming the kids at all. I have some history with this region and know a little about the schools and coaches. I would think that these results would show the schools that if you support these teams at all you can have some success. Here comes Bullitt Central out of nowhere with a bunch of inexperienced kids and they put almost half the team in the finals and win the region.

Falcon - not to take anything away from Walls, he is a good wrestler, but Austin Cooper is a machine. We will all see next week, but I think he has earned the spot. I would likely even consider him for the top spot at 171. Yes, he is that good.

We all know the Coopers bumping up will impact 145 thru 160 in a big way. I think the biggest outstanding question on weight changes is Joey Sanders. Where will he end up?
