    border wars wrestling tournament

[quote name="grappler-of-old :?: :?:  HUH  :?: :?: Not sure what this is all about' date=' but I do agree that summer tourneys are not correct guages to the wrestlers. 1. The wrestlers are out of shape 2. The wrestlers don't prepare mentally for these tourneys. 3. Officials don't take it as serious. 4. Some wrestlers don't practice in the summer 5. The wrestlers don't take it seriously (Did you see how many matches where the wresters were laughing during the match?) I saw Fyffe smilling during one of his matches, many of the SK boys, Golsby during the Wasson match, the CC group were laughing at each other from the sidelines. I would disagree a little on these points: 1) We're not that far removed that you should use conditioning as a reason for getting you behind handed to you 2) Somewhat agree. BUT, when you look at that bracket and see who is coming up the adrenaline still get's flowing for those big matches 3) I thought the officiating was better than most of the regular season meets I went to. 4) Again, we're not that far removed from the regular season. Plus, I know that some teams have been putting on youth clinics over the last few weeks, so guys are still on the mat. 5) Agree that some guys just show up for the meet. But I guarantee a few guys took those matches pretty serious. Ask Cornett, Luna, Shotwell. And I'm guessing McCauley didn't want to lose to Bradbury again.

Basically, Chitna is mad because I didn't rank Allman in the preseason rankings. He says if Wasson is ranked Allman should be because he beat Carey at state. I disagree. Then I simply said that Allman didn't do anything to prove he deserved to be ranked this past weekend. Bottom line, he's just mad.

One other point. As I also stated, I'm not doing the usual process of taking out the seniors and ranking based on the state tournament finish. I don't see any value in that. You can do that on our own. I am putting my own opinion, knowledge, and expertise into what I think will happen next season. I'm sure I will be off on some guys. They will either gain weight or lose it. Some will work hard and improve in the off season while others will sit on the couch eating oreos all summer. In case you haven't figured it out yet, we won't know that until next season get's here. I'm basing my rankings on what I have seen from these guys throughout that last few seasons and what I think they are likely to do, or not do in the case of Allman. I simply don't see him repeating that type of draw/performance.

There is a big difference between a "summer" tournament in early March (shortly after the season) and one later in the summer. 3 weeks after the state tournament (when guys should be at their best) you shouldn't be that far out of shape. Okay, since you seem to have all of the answers, knock yourself out. Where would you put Allman? And as I said before, he has all season to prove me wrong.

My top 10 list from the weekend of wrestling: 1) No whining about the format. Everyone know about if before they stepped on the mat and it wasn't dreamed up to favor anyone. 2) This event had some of the best KY compeitition I have ever seen at an off-season tournament. 3) Trinity will be a team to be reckoned with in the next few years, even more than in the past (and for years to come). 4) Myron Bradbury is a little stud. It looked like he was giving up a lot of weight, but still got the job done, often in convincing fashion against some tough competition. Is he related to the Central Hardin Bradbury's? 5) Cornett looked very good. I don't care what format it was, he beat Luna fair and square. 6) I think we saw further evidence that the Wasson/Allman debate is dead. Both bumped up significant weight to 152. Allman showed nothing. Wasson beat Winchester and Golsby. Enough said. 7) I'm not looking forward to the battle for the HWT title next season. I watched Young and Smith (Valley) go at it and both looked sloppy and out of shape. Unless they do some work this summer to get better (not maintain) they will not challenge Byrd. 8) A pat on the back to all of the wrestlers, parents, coaches, and fans who remained calm and patient for a couple hours with no power in the building. 9) Great win for Korey Shotwell over Josh Johnson. 10) Veach gave Peace a good match, but Peace held on for his usual controlling victory.

For., DQ, and Dflt. at the 2006 state tourney.

Collins got tossed for going crazy after the DQ. I mis-typed it. 2 DQs, 3 def, and 4 forfeits.

For., DQ, and Dflt. at the 2006 state tourney.

I know that Wood, Bryant, Ervin, and Marks were legit injuries. That accounts for 3 defaults, 4 DQs, and 3 forfeits. That's half of them.

    woodford vs larue 2007

I agree Fern Creek will be very good. They have a lot of guys that were likely disappointed in their finish and will be working hard to prove themselves next year. BUT Larue and Woodford will both be right there with them. Right now I think it is a dead heat, depending on weight changes and how well Larue and Woodford fill the shoes of their departing seniors.

toughtest wt. classes in 2006 state tourney.

I would add Ervin to your 5 star guys at 145 (assuming your 3 are Courtney, Banks, Aylor, Wilson). Didn't he beat Wilson a couple weeks before region?

Top 8 at 152 and 160 next year

I think that is going way out on a limb with guys like Wolsiefer and Cooper likely to be at that weight.

    Best takedown

Obviously someone is a little jealous or Bryant's success and probably got their tail kicked by him.

    Quality or quanity

old grappler - I think you have hit on a point. I think we are getting better prepared coaches who are doing a great job of teaching these inexperienced kids. Plus, I think some kids are taking advantage of the many offseason opportunities to get better quick while some kids sit at home.

Dunbar's team website says Winter is a junior.
  21. As I have said a few times, I aree that they don't mean a lot, but if you look overall, I think there is some merit in what was posted. Okay, so 119 may not have been perfect, as no weight class will ever be, but look at 135 or 171 where my top 8 got medals. Or 112, 125, 145, 160, and 189 where 7 of the top 8 got medals. You still wrestle the matches, but that is half of the weights that I was pretty close on.

    So what are you saying?

    Courtney

Maybe, but given the comments about him being light, I think he will make it back to 152. That might keep him away from Wolseifer. Though I wouldn't be suprised to see him bump up for a match with John somewhere during the season. Plus, I think the team may need 145 open for Sheehan and Scott to fit in "comfortably". They have to have those guys scoring to make another title run next year. 5 champs will be a little tougher next season. But I'm not ruling it out (Parks, Lewis, Courtney, Starks, and Byrd will all be at the top of their weights).
