most dominant wrestlers you have seen

Nice idea, but it won't happen if it requires the coaches to get together, agree on it, and act. They are too fragmented a group and that isn't going to change under the current leadership. This goes right along with the state tournament seeding discussion. Great ideas that can't happen because people are afraid of disagreements and a little work.

He wrestles for Newport, which was a new varsity team last season. He had some success, but little experience and doesn't always make the best decisions. He has lots of potential, but we'll have to wait and see if he lives up to it.

If we're talking about MOW at state, then only those 3 days matter. That said, Murton completely overpowered everyone that stepped on the mat with him. In the semis, Ashbrook wrestled his tail off and lost by what, 14. Let's say they were even going into the finals. Jacob stepped it up a notch and destroyed Griggs. Starks was fairly dominant, but I think it was nearly impossible to overcome the impression left by Murton. I agree with the Co-MOW. But it has to get voted that way by the coaches. Scherer was a close #3, but never gave you that wow that made him the obvious choice.

Fuller needs to let that shoulder heal or next season will be a bust. I think Shotwell and Deinlin will be good next season but 119 and 125 could be tough weights.

If you don't think Brownfield from Campbell should be on the list then who would you add from CC? They're not going to be the deepest team in the region next season. Again I like the Camels and Coach Bankemper, but I think they have a lot to prove after a down year and losing Hildreth, Wilson, Rust, and P. Brownfield.

I would love to see a Sullivan - Luna matchup. That would definitely make Sullivan earn his title at 112 (if he ends up there). BUT, there are still 5 months until the season kicks off and a lot of time for guys to get "fat".

Somewhat agree on Wasson. I didn't hear about Boxx at region. I thought he just choked. Pretty sad.

Raleigh is #9, just off the list.

OK. Let's see if I can answer everyone's questions. Bop - you're close; let's wait and see on Brown. I'll leave him on the list until I know for sure. I think we all can agree that Malcolm is very, very talented. I believe he learned a bit from last season's experiences and will come back tough and not cut as much weight. Plus, tell me who on the list will definitely beat him. I'll check on the 30 from Christian county, Skinner?, and make sure I didn't lose him. I'm just not convinced that Cornett will get to 112, so I have to put him or Zarth at 125. Right now I chose Zarth. And finally, good comments grapplet, BUT... 1) Parks impressed me at state, really pushing Sullivan. And you know he will get better and better. It is a toss-up and I'm taking Parks right now. 2) Yes, Luna is tough, but so are the Ervins. 3) Are you talking about the '04-'05 season when Lewis beat Voth? IMO, there was no comparison between the Voth of this past season and the prior years. He really stepped it up and I think will take the next step to make up for the disappointment in the finals. 4) Again, a lot of guys that are pretty even, imo. 5) Yes, I think so. He can match up athleticly with Golsby and has a better work ethic and workout partners to push him. 6) Hey, were you one of the folks arguing that you can't rely on summer results? I think they are pretty even right now. 7) I was not impressed with Burdin and didn't like his attitude. Plus, I think Young has more technical skills. 8) I think Boxx has the potential to improve leaps and bounds. He just has to learn how to not beat himself. 9) I think he will. It may come down to where the team needs him.

FYI, shortly after we get the results of the Gable tournament at Ryle I will be posting a revised off-season ranking.

    Qualifying for States?

I agree 100% with finding a way to seed the top 4.

For., DQ, and Dflt. at the 2006 state tourney.

No, I was never slammed. Actually, have been on the other end a couple times. But I still say if you can't control the kid or live with the consequences, then don't pick them up. Once you lift a guy off the mat you have to know that you are taking a chance. How is the official supposed to know if it is intentional. That's rediculous. We can expect the refs to make better calls, but not to be mind-readers. The kid that gets slammed always has the opportunity to continue. Obviously if he is hurt badly enough someone will override his decision.

    Qualifying for States?

Yes, it is long, but we're talking about wrestling. The sport that we all love. I could live with it being 5 days. No amount of wrestling is too much.

For., DQ, and Dflt. at the 2006 state tourney.

I think this has been covered already. Were you in the right city? The Eric Bryant match didn't keep anyone from advancing in the tournament or ruin anyones dreams. It was for 3rd and 4th. Plus, a rule is a rule. You slam someone you might lose. If you can't deal with it, then stay out of the situation.

    Rankings

Patience please. I just hate to put them out here and then 5 minutes later get the Ryle results and see someone has gained 30 pounds when I have them ranked at the same weight they wrestled in '05-'06. Then someone will get on here and start ranting about it.

    Tops at 140

    Tops at 140

I counter with: 1) Thuenaman (the best 140 throughout the last season 2) Ashbrooke 3) Miller (unless he gets back to 135) 4) Case 5) Howard (unless he goes 135) 6) Stewart I think Peace will end up at 135 and Jackson at 145.
  21. Ranger123

    Tops at 140

I think Mr. Ashbrooke might have something to say about that. I also think Thuenaman is a notch above him. I'll give him Peace as I think he beat him at the state duals, though I think Peace was off that day. Definitely a different guy than we saw in Frankfort.

I agree. And I understand the concept of trying new stuff, but I didn't (and still don't) like to lose to anyone at any time.
