    Woodford Co.'s Coach Parks Retires

I agree. A great career for a good guy. Many moons ago when I wrestled against his guys I literally hated him. I had the same opinion as many others do today that they (Woodford Co.) were conceited and poor sports. BUT, as I got older and got to know Rusty as a fellow coach, I realized the exact opposite. Yes, they are very confident and proud of who they are as anyone would be who put so much time and effort into becoming that good. But he always treated me well, welcomed my teams (small teams with little talent) to his tournament without question, and still shakes my hand and stops for a few minutes to talk even though I am no longer coaching.

Anyone notice a strong region 7 presence for the '90s?

Tournament Schedule for upcoming school year

You'll have better luck keeping your eye out on this site if you want to get that kind of info.

I think Burkett wins 103 and Houchens at 189 (Hardin 2nd).

    Letcher County Central Cougars

Yes, it looks like they have a number of young guys who were relatively close to making it last season. Let's see how they improve with some experience under their belt.

    top three hardest wieght classes

OK. If you have Courtney, Banks, Ervin, Jackson, Golsby, and Wasson (or Sanders from HC) at 145 how quickly before guys start jumping to 152? Or does Cooper see an opening and cut himself down to 152?

    top three hardest wieght classes

Remember, wrestling matches last 6 minutes. And all points count. Yes, Cooper was in a position to win, but in no way was dominant. It was an even match and Wolseifer hit the right move at the right time. No luck, just good execution. If they wrestled 100 times, it would probably be close to 50-50. And I think Courtney's match with Cooper was similar. So I see no reason to conclude that Courtney would handle Wolseifer. I tend to disagree. I give John a very, very slight edge.

How do your picks change with Pat Banks back at 145?

top at each weight next year

I can't argue with many of your picks. I think Peace is the man at 135. And I think Sullivan will be at 112. Close calls will be Wood and Ervin at 119 and Thuenaman and Ashbrooke. Not sure Courtney will be at 145 either.

Ky Coaches Association: What do you want them to do?

Great ideas eville. I would like to see the coaches association start to act like a true organization. Which means reaching out to everyone that is a part of the organization. If they don't all want to participate, that's fine. But the attempt should be made. As I have said before, I paid my dues for a few years and never received the first email, letter, or phone call. So what was I a member for? Just to contribute my $ to the cause? So I have to assume one of two things: my input doesn't count or nothing is happening to further wrestling in the state by the coaches as an organization. I think that if the coaches were truly organized then the ideas would get passed along to the leadership and maybe some good ideas could move forward. Because we know the parents and kids are telling us what should be happening. And if the leadership knew of the interest (or outcry) for certain things maybe they could respond. My list (off the top of my head) 1) schedules and results posted 2) seeding the state tournament 3) real rankings on a weekly basis 4) photo/videos at state

    Rebel Rankings - 2006/2007 Preseason #2

I agree that you shouldn't get caught up in the rankings. You need to take care of business on the mat because that is what really matters. And if you do that I will notice (assuming your results get reported somewhere). I disagree with your comment that anyone knocked off too many higher ranked guys and dropped in the rankings. Some losses had to be involved as well. For example, if you beat the #3 guy in the state in a dual and later that night lose to a nobody with a losing record, you probably will not move up. The #3 guy should drop. PM me and let me know what you think I missed last season. If results never got posted anywhere or don't show up in the papers, then I can't reflect that in the rankings.

most dominant wrestlers you have seen

How are coaches supposed to involve themselves. Like you said, you have to do all you can just to field a team and keep the school from shutting it down. So I don't see how the little guys are supposed to carry the load to get stuff done. Plus, we're not the ones with an assistant coach for each weight class.

    where can my son wrestle?

There is a USA wrestling program running right now at Campbell County high school on Wednesday nights. Contact Glenn Gray at glenn.gray@campbell.kyschools.us for more information or show up on a Wednesday night at 6:30 (I think).
