No, I changed schools before it came to that. But I will note that this was a small team so the mats were not getting a great deal of use every day. In fact, some pieces of the mat were seldom used.

My experience with Dollumar mats was not good either. When you consider that you usually have kids rolling up the mats and moving them for meets/tournaments I don't think they are durable enough. Our team had to roll up the mats and put them in a closet each day. Before they were 5 years old there were chunks of the padding missing from bumping against the walls or doors. I guess you just have to balance the convenience with the durability.

    answer me this??

Woodford didn't have a champ in 1994. But since then they have had multiple champs in 10 of the 12 years.

2003 Middle School State Tournament Result

Yes, that is very interesting to see. I guess it shouldn't suprise us that many of these same guys are ending up on the medal stand in Frankfort. Just taking a quick look at this, I came up with the following: Medals awarded at state tournament = 112 (8 for 14 weight classes) Seniors who won medals (too old to be in 2003 MS) = 55 Move-ins or kids who started wrestling in HS = 1 (that I know of) That leaves 56 medals for the kids who were able to participate in the 2003 MS state. 32 (almost 60%) of the kids on that list won medals this past season, including 10 state finalists and 5 state champs. So is you are looking for some underclassmen that might step up look at the 2003-2005 MS state tournament results. Looks like they are a pretty good predictor. BUT it also leads to another question. What happened to some of these kids? For example: 75 lbs J Ducker of Gray, N Laughlin of Oldham Co 92 lbs B Neal of Woodford (how did he get so big?) 110 lbs M Parrish of Elkhorn, J Bradford of Gray 122 lbs J Vaught of Eastern 128 lbs Z Byrne of Oldham Co 134 lbs J Thompson of Inez 150 lbs A Root of Whitley Co, C Temple of Anderson Co 172 lbs J Johnson of Eastern, J Poteet of Larue Co 195 lbs D Robinson of Woodford Co, W Jude of Inez 230 lbs M Sullivan of Moore, C Hornback of Larue Co
  7. OK, here is an update. I'm only posting the top 8 as that is all I have scoring team points right now. Understand that before you scream about the team rankings. Teams like Campbell County (and I'm a Campbell County fan) aren't scoring big because I don't see a lot of guys placing right now. But I'm sure they will come through and score enough to be a top 20 team in the end. 103 Un Co Aaron Carr 10 Sen Elliott Martin 11 Tri Dan Smith 11 JC Zach Salyers 8 / JJ Jude 7 FC Josh Burkett 11 Lar Co Joey Henderson 9 Ryle Austin Palmer 9 SO Brandon Whitehouse 9 112 Way Co Travis Sullivan 11 Wood Co Shane Parks 11 Un Co Adam Carr 12 PD Jon Voth 11 Bull Cen James Badgett 11 NO Andre Zeppa 11 Lar Co Tritsten Hines 10 Con TJ Bates 9 119 FC Caleb Wood 12 Un Co Isaac Ervin 10 Eas Joaquin Luna 10 NH Josh Johnson 9 Way Co Coty Vinsant 11 JC Cory Spencer 11 HC Cliff Cornett 12 Mon Co Ross Carpenter-Fraser 11 125 PD Tyler Voth 12 Wood Co Coty Lewis 11 Sen John Chui 12 Way Co Bryan Daniels 11 JH Justin Pitcher 11 HC Matt Zarth 10 Lar Co Darwin Perez 12 Tri Grant Ohlman 9 130 Old Co Ben Warner 12 NH Matt Eck 12 Sen Dan Fuller 12 JC Jordan Freeman 10 Con Rashad Brown 12 Un Co Carson Chambliss 12 Nel Co Forest Rehrig 12 Cald Co Sam Mitchell 10 135 Ryle Bryan Peace 11 SC Brandon Howard 12 JH Cassidy Veach 12 Cam Co Kyle Griffith 11 FC Derek Branch 11 Wood Co Steven Butler 12 Sen Zach Poulton 11 SO Cody Hall 12 140 Scott Daniel Thueneman 12 Har Co Josh Ashbrook 11 Lar Co Matt Miller 11 Tri Ben Case 12 FC Kevin Stewart 12 Wood Co Chad Scott 11 St X Cory Kress 12 Con Ryan Dillon 11 145 Un Co Mitch Ervin 11 FC Malcolm Jackson 12 Hol John Golsby 12 Har Co Bryan Wasson 11 Lar Co Evan Smith 12 St X Chip Condon 12 Wood Co Blake Sheehan 11 Tri Brad Hitchings 9 152 Wood Co Harrison Courtney 10 Lar Co Patrick Banks 12 Mc Cen Randall Stevens 12 And Co Sammy Isaacs 11 FC Ben Barger 11 Har Co Beau Sanders 11 Way Co Tim Winchester 11 Bull Cen Jeremiah Walls 10 160 FC John Wolsiefer 11 SK Josh Cooper 12 Lar Co Scott Wheeler 12 NH Ty Wolf 11 DH Brad Denham 12 CH Joe Collin 12 Cam Co Tom Brownfield 11 Wood Co Justin Mays 12 171 Eas Ben Rupp 12 Ryle Mason Reid 11 NH Matt Baker Lar Co Bryant Barnhill 12 Tri John Florence 12 SC Adam Dials 11 Mc Cen Ryan Harlow 9 Old Co Wes Combs 12 189 Wood Co Will Starks 12 NH Mark Jones 11 Apollo Matt Green 11 Lar Co Jake Shipp 12 SC Ryan Kelly 10 CH Terry Turner 12 DH Steve Benson 11 HC Zack Guiler 12 215 Mc Cen Jacob Watson 12 FC Deon Chaney 11 Tri Jordan Whiting 10 Sen Jordan Dockery 12 Lar Co Joe Embree 12 SC Justin Chaffin 11 PD Doug Winter 12 Doss Derek Nickel 11 275 Wood Co Matt Byrd 12 Old Co Josh Young 12 Ohio Co Adam Burdin 12 Fair Robby Brown 12 New Devon Boxx 11 Scott Adam Patterson 12 Vall Will Smith 11 Mc Cen Chris Espinoza 12 Team 1 Woodford County 2 Larue County 3 Fern Creek 4 Union County 5 North Hardin 6 Seneca 7 Trinity (Louisville) 8 Wayne County 9 McCreary Central 10 Sheldon Clark 11 Ryle 12 Oldham County 13 Paul Dunbar 14 Harrison County 15 Eastern 16 Johnson Central 17 Scott 18 John Hardin 19 Henry Clay 20 Conner 21 Campbell County 22 Dixie Heights 23 Central Hardin 24 St. Xavier 25 Simon Kenton

    Rebel Rankings - 2006/2007 Preseason #2

We didn't lift a single day when I was in school. I wrestled 112 as a senior and I think was one of the strongest guys at my weight. Within a year after graduating I started really lifting. With my weight at 125 (I could easily have made it to 119, maybe still 112) I maxed out at 250. Free weights only; no machines for me.
  9. Ranger123

best wrestlers to graduate from your school

You can't talk PRP without mentioning James Simpson HWT 1989. I think this was his junior season and he played basketball as a senior rather than wrestling. I also heard he did a backflip after winning the championship. Pretty good for a heavyweight.
  10. I've seen Tommy wrestle a lot over the years and he is still young and improving. I didn't see him wrestle against any of those guys (or see results posted), plus he was a 103 last season. I think he will be a solid 112 this season and has some great workout partners.

If he goes 285 then I will put him there. At this point I have him going 215 along with Bodenbender. I think Bodenbender bumped up at region because that gave him a much better chance at qualifying for state.

    Rebel Rankings - 2006/2007 Preseason #2

First, he went 2-2 at state in 2005. Not bad, but he lost to Steven Benson of Dixie (#7 right now), so no argument for being ahead of him. Plus, he missed last season. I'm sure he has been working hard, but he has a lot to make up and prove. None of the top 10 at 189 can be taken lightly. For example, we just saw how competitive Houchens at #10 can be on a national level.

    Individual state champions

I don't know if the Flaget/Male change was officially a change. That's just what I recall the way Louisville folks historically refer to it. I don't really know the details.

    Individual state champions

Too late, I already did it. I have 2006 included. Very interesting; I was close. About 34 teams still with a goose egg (not sure some of the teams are still competing), though some of the programs are relatively new (Letcher, Bullitt, Whitley, etc). Woodford has a streak of 12 consecutive years with a winner (totaling 30 champions). Next best streak is Simon Kenton with 7. North Hardin had an amazing 13 year streak from 1964 to 1976. TEAM TOTAL Woodford County 50 Hopkinsville 34 Fern Creek 31 North Hardin 29 Union County 25 Christian County 22 Conner 19 Simon Kenton 19 St. Xavier 18 Trinity (Louisville) 18 Sheldon Clark 17 Fort Campbell 16 Campbell County 15 Eastern 15 Henry Clay 15 Kentucky School f/t Blind 12 Boone County 11 Newport Catholic 11 Waggener 11 Ahrens 9 Danville 9 Scott 9 Seneca 9 Oldham County 8 South Oldham 8 Ballard 7 Caldwell County 7 Larue County 7 Wayne County 7 Flaget / Male 6 Millersburg Military Inst. 6 St. Joseph Prep 6 Doss 5 Lawrence County 5 Ryle 5 Tates Creek 5 Jeffersontown 4 Western 4 Westport 3 Central Hardin 2 Fort Knox 2 Frankfort 2 Harrison County 2 Holmes 2 Pleasure Ridge Park 2 Ashland Blazer 1 Belfry 1 Boyle County 1 Central 1 Dupont Manual 1 Fairdale 1 Franklin County 1 Johnson Central 1 Lafayette 1 Owensboro 1 Paul Dunbar 1 Prestonsburg 1 Southern 1 Trigg County 1 Valley 1 West Hardin 1 Anderson County 0 Apollo 0 Atherton 0 Bourbon County 0 Bryan Station 0 Bullitt Central 0 Calloway County 0 Campbellsville 0 Daviess County 0 DeSales 0 Dixie Heights 0 Henderson County 0 Holy Cross (L) 0 Iroquois 0 John Hardin 0 Kentucky Country Day 0 Letcher County Central 0 McCreary Central 0 McLean County 0 Montgomery County 0 Moore 0 Nelson County 0 Newport 0 North Oldham 0 Ohio County 0 Oneida Baptist 0 Paducah Tilghman 0 Perry County Central 0 Pike County Central 0 Shawnee 0 University Heights 0 Webster County 0 Western Hills 0 Whitley County 0
  15. I agree that would change things a bit. I would love to see Caleb and Sullivan and Jackson and Thuneman go at it. But I'm not ready to move them yet. Why would Caleb cut the weight this year when he didn't last year.

    Individual state champions

Yeah, I've seen that, but was hoping someone had done the hard work of counting the winners by team. I was just wondering how many teams have never won a state title. My guess is that there are quite a few; maybe half of the current teams?
  17. Where I see a difference is that Bates seemed to end the year wrestling really well (better than the others). He lost a questionable match to Brownfield at state that prevented him from potentially medalling (not sure about him getting by Voth). Bottom line is that they all go into region equal. Bates stepped it up and took the championship.
  18. Good catch. The others are just further down the list. Supe should be lower. Plus, I did miss Wren.

    2006-07 Top Middle Schools/Clubs

What about Trinity? They were untouchable last year.
  20. Trinity already has Dan Smith at 103.
  21. Speaking of those 189s, look at how region 7 is shaping up. It isn't the region 6 145 pounders of last season (Aylor, Wilson, Cooper), but there are 4 top quality kids here: Starks, Green, Guiler, and Likoy. Some region champ will have their hands full in round one with one of those guys come state time.
  22. 189 will be a very tough weight. The tough part is who moves down? Houchens went a respectable 3-2 at state at 171 last season. At the top you have the two finalists at 171. Green took 4th at 189. Shipp went 2-2 at 189, but lost to Starks and Chaney. Turner took 8th at 189. Kelly took 7th at 171. Benson went 3-2 at 189, losing to Turner and Jacob Watson. Guiler went 3-2 at 189 losing two close matches to Benson and Winter. Raleigh went 3-2 at 189 losing a close match to Winter (6th) and Ashworth (7th). It looks like Ryan is stepping it up, but I'm sure a lot of these other guys are working hard too. Like I said, this will be a very tough and competitive weight class.
  23. Who has he beat this summer? I find it hard to believe he has seen several of the guys ahead of him. I have him just outside the top 15.

    Rebel Rankings - 2006/2007 Preseason #2

pioneer - personally, I think he will have a tougher time at 119 or 125 than 130. I think the depth of technically better wrestlers will prevent him from placing really high at those weights, even with his superior strength. He seems to make a lot of mistakes and many of those kids will be able to capitalize on it. 112 would be a different story, but I don't see him going that far. I see 119 as a bit of a stretch.

I haven't seen the complete set of results yet. I saw some of the matches, but missed a lot as well. Shortly after I see all of the finishes I will post an update.
