    Out of Bounds!

You are correct. He had a separated shoulder. It happened in the semis when he spanked Pat White, prior year state champ from Hopkinsville.

    Out of Bounds!

I considered referring to the same match myself as I knew it would find a special place for a lot of northern Ky guys out there. FYI, I was okay with the call myself, but was a bit biased.

    Out of Bounds!

I'll give my 2 cents as a part-time official. I personally like to see matches with what I'll call flow. I don't like constant stopping and starting. Do you stop the match to award the point? If so, I can see a lot more of the stopping and starting. And kids pulling up kneepads or adjusting headgear. I also think you would have a lot of coaches teaching techniques that don't encourage wrestling, but playing the line and scoring on over-aggressive opponents. Which is not the direction that I think we want to go with the sport. And along the lines of what Mathound says, would we want to see a Courtney/Banks rematch decided by one pushing the other off the mat? I don't think so.

    Teams with a Goose Egg

No, I think he is talking about Newport High School. They got their program started back up last year. They got beat up a bit in Region 6, but I saw them a few times and even though they were really, really green they were rather impressive. They were a very young team (age wise in addition to experience).

    Teams with a Goose Egg

Can you name a strong program in KY that has been around for more than 5 years that doesn't have a state champ?

    Harrison County

Unfortunately, I didn't see as much of them as I hoped. But I know that Barnett was a spectator as there were no others in his age/weight. From what I know of Coy he is a hard worker and has been wrestling as much as anyone else down there this summer. But he still has a lot of improving to do and needs to get much stronger. I'm anxious to see how Murdoch does this year. He could be tough (either 215 or 285). But he needs to stay serious and focused all season. They will need his leadership as well.

    Individual state champions

I can't blame any Louisville residents for this one. I used to live there and made the comment based on my faulty memory. See the post above and you will see what was going through my mind when I made the comment.

    Teams with a Goose Egg

There are many different explanations (or excuses depending on who you ask) for these teams. Some have only had programs for a few years (Bourbon County, Bullitt Central, etc) and others are small schools with low participation (nice way of saying they are weak programs; I won't name any in particular).

    Battle of the Bridge Wrestling

The Louisville side could choose its' team by winners of the Jefferson County Tournament of Champions. Coach Coomes at Eastern High School (and Ky coaches association president) would be the person to talk to about organizing this.
  12. Thanks for the info. I haven't seen much of him, so it is good to get confirmation that he is deserving of being on the list. BUT, as we have discussed on this forum before, you can't always take off season matches at face value. Most of our kids still get way out of shape and don't show up ready to give 100%. I'm not saying that is the case here at all. But that is one of the things that is holding us back. Instead of getting in an extra season of wrestling in the spring and summer (like the nation's best do) we are lucky to get guys to tournaments and camps. I will admit we are making huge strides and are starting to get more competitive nationally, but we still have a long way to go. That's a totally different topic. Anyway, I will keep that match in the back of my mind down the road.

That makes sense. I searched the rule book and found nothing related to this topic..
  14. Here they are! I know it is still July and weights are still fluctuating, but we have seen a lot of good competition this summer and I think a lot more activity in general. This should make for some good wrestling this winter. I am listing my top 15 for most weight classes right now. The exceptions are 103 and 171 which I don't think are deep enough right now to go beyond the top 10. Holy Cross was actually the consolidation of Bishop David and some catholic girls school (which I can't remember right now).

What about Haught at 189? I think that may leave Neal out. Robbie Vaughn is in the mix, but there is a huge bunch of guys from 11-19 that are all pretty even as I see them.

I'm just saying that it is a pretty bold statement to say someone is going to major Cooper. He walked through the tournament until the finals where he lost 3-2. I'm not saying Cooper will definitely beat this guy, but to dismiss Cooper as having no chance seems crazy. What did the Flake guy do in '05-'06?
  21. OK, if you want to put a lot of emphasis on the finals... Larue - 2 finalists, 1 winner, but 9 other placers Fern Creek - 3 finalists, 2 winners, 6 other placers Woodford - 4 finalists, 3 winners, 4 other placers Yes, it appears as though Woodford again has an edge when it comes to the spotlight, but ask Coach Canter and he will probably agree that the wrestlebacks buried them last year. And I think that is where Woodford will struggle more this year. Larue's experience will show up in those grueling rounds.
  22. Come on, don't hold back. Tell me what you really think. HA! HA! Really, you can't make a statement like that without backing it up. What's so bogus?

Major Cooper? I don't think so.

I agree. We all thought Jarius was dominant, but we saw (or read about) what happened when he ran into Mr. Cooper. Jacob is a great wrestler (one of the best ever in KY) and will compete for a championship before he graduates, but I think he still has some work to do.
