As long as the state tournament is set up as it is (long, late nights), then I think the kids need a tournament or two that are similar. WCI is not quite that late. It is a long two days, which makes it tough on anyone traveling unless you stay in a hotel. I personally love the big tournaments. I think the bigger tournaments are run pretty well in KY. But as plee mentioned with so many teams there is no way around those late nights. The real pains are the next level tournaments that are poorly run and the kids and fans sit around all day for much less competition and less wrestling. And often it is not the coach running the show, but his help (or lack of) that really causes the issue. grappler: #1 is not as big a deal IMO. #2 is huge. This is often unorganized and very inefficient. I understand some discussion when we get to regions, but during the season there is no need for such long meetings. Much of this can be handles on Friday night. #3 Coaches need good help. #4 This can be a problem. #5 I hate this one. The coaches association or the state should ban this practice.

I might do one more at the end of this month and then wait for the updates once everyone gets into practice.

That will be a very good addition to the tournament. 6 of the top 10 teams. Add to that teams like South Oldham, Oldham, Eastern, Henry Clay, Scott, etc and you have a pretty strong tournament.

I would also add that I think Caleb considering dropping to 112 is likely driven by his support of the team. I'm basing this on hearing just a few things here and there and as an outside observer, but I think he is doing this primarily because it will make the team better.

I think there was a conflict or weather or something that kept them out last year. But they have brought some tough kids before.

I can't believe it took this long for someone to bring this up, a whole week. Overtimeking, We all appreciate your feedback and opinion, but come on, let's have a reality check. To say Caleb has no chance against Sullivan is ludicrous. I don't think you can say with a straight face that Shane Parks has no chance. He only lost 2-0 last year. And I think we can agree that a healthy Caleb is much tougher than Parks (no offense to Shane). I agree, Sullivan is great and is definitely the best lightweight thrower I have ever seen (Tommy Storms was probably 2nd). But I haven't seen him on the mat with someone the caliber of Wood. And I think Wood's style can take Sullivan. As eville says, time will tell and it will be decided on the mat, not by rankings or anyones opinion. But it is fun to discuss!!!

Are you just not seeing Fuller on the list? He is now on the HWT rankings.

Two things on Ryan Vaughn. I have Cooper at 160, 'nuff said. He gets ranked because right now I don't see any other guys that are obviously better. The other Supe is outside the published rankings. He will have a tough road in that region at 112 with Bates, Vaughn, Chitwood, and Wren (who beat him for 5th at region). I only show 15 right now to limit some of the "I beat so and so, why is he ahead of me". Some of that is good, because I don't see all of the results from week to week. But when we're talking about being #25 or #27 because you beat a guy once at a summer tournament by a couple points is questionable.

Cost becomes an issue at a facility like that. That's another nice thing about Frankfort. I think it was free for some time.

WCI has always been one of my favorites and has some pretty good competition. The Dragon at South Oldham is also really tough. I hear the 5 star is tough as well.

We'll probably hear more from Julian Tackett at the rules meetings coming up. I personally think it is a great location and venue. If we could just figure out a way to get a little more warmup room it would be perfect. I think I have heard some discussion about EKU (Richmond), but I don't think that would be as nice a setup.

What about Griffith at 135? I think he takes D. Brown easily. So you think Cooper will get back to 152? I have no idea, I've just been assuming 160. What about Benson at 189? Team-wise, I have to believe it will be a tight 3-way battle. You guys haven't mentioned Ryle. You know they will be in the mix.

Good question. The team rankings are based on my "projection" of team points (and finish) at the state tournament. So, even though other teams in the region may be better than Valley, right now I am thinking that they will put up just a couple more points. And it truly is just a couple. Joe Raleigh and Beebop are giving them a slight edge right now.

You're right. Harlow will be lower than Singley. I think he either makes 171 or rides the pine.

Keep spinning! That sounds like a great idea. I would love to see the N Ky vs S Oh matchup. We would probably get our tails handed to us, but it would give a few guys a chance to really shine.

I agree. That's why I said I think Likoy is a little better. And that can be made up quite easily with heart and hard work. If Singley is back at 171 I think he is in the top 10. I already have Likoy down at 171 (when the new rankings come out - maybe tomorrow???).

First, there have been a lot of discussions about off season tournaments on this forum and I agree that it is tough to judge based on those matchups. By no means can they be ignored, because when those guys meet during the season that match will be in the back of their minds. But Ky kids very seldom show up really ready to wrestle in the off season. My personal opinion on these two guys is this. I think Likoy has much more talent and athletic ability. But I get the feeling that Singley has a much better work ethic. And what you saw a the bluegrass games was hard work beating ability. And for now, I think Likoy is a little better when we get to crunch time.
