  1. You are exactly right. You can have good individual kids just not as many. What I am wondering though, is no matter what the number of schools all of you all think it should only be one division? Even if it ever got to 90 schools, only one division? Am I understanding this correct?

  2. Rocky: What you say I am sure is true, but I refuse to take the satndpoint of this is useless , we cant make a difference untill things change in our state govt..I had posted a reply on this topic before and didnt get a reply from anyone on the question I had asked. There is going to be a new highschool built and will open at the begining of 2008 year. It will split Ryle and Conner , getting students from each. Lets say a couple more schools start a wrestling program and a couple more schools are built that also start up programs. At what number do we say.....wait a minute we cant continue with just one divisinon. 80? 90? Having one division is fine at 70 or 73, but if the sport does in fact see some growth ,what is the number at which we say , maybe we need to look at changing this??

  3. Have never yet been to borderwars, but go to T.O.F.C. every year. My son had a 64 man bracket two years ago and went 3-2 amd last year 52 man bracket and again went 3-2. Seems like we have hit a wall. For anyone that talks about how good we (KY) are just take your kid or your team (club) to these two or to the fall tournament at Pickerington in Columbus and you will have a true gauge of how good your kids really are against tuff compitition

  4. I might agree on some of these schools. even a majority of these schools, but certainly not Nebraska, Minnasota, West Virginia, Michigan..These schools are premier schools for wrestling. I think it is awsome that Ruschell signed with a major school.Other than Murton and Shearer(forgive the spelling) I cant see anyone else in the state right now going MAJOR division 1.

  5. I have mixed feelings about this two division thing. I see the intent behind it, however we are a weak state in wrestling as it is. Will this not make your accomplishment mean even less if you win a state title. On the other hand, if we do see growth in the sport and lets just say we have 73 teams this year, and within 5 years it has grown to .....I dont know, lets just say for the heck of it it grows to 90 teams. Are we still going to only have one division? That would be alot of kids not making it to state. Lets say that with 90 teams we split it into two divisions. We have two divisions with 45 teams in each. Make the state tournament into a 16 man bracket with seeding..Crown two state champs in each weight class and 1 team in each division. What do you all think of this??.........I am just wondering if everyone will be able to respond to this without any mudslinging :?

  6. Dont EVER appoligize for winning. But why dont you folks get over of this LaRue , Woodford crap. Last year I went to Lakewood St Eds vs St paris Grahm dual. Ranked #1 and #3 in the nation at the time. Yes nation, not state. The coaches as well as wrestlers acted with class. I am talking about kids nationally ranked loosing. That dosent happen often , but they still acted like young men. The fans of course go crazy but I never saw any flipping the bird or cursing the other team. I hope we can follow this example and set an example for our kids to win and loose with class. Wrestle and cheer and coach your guts out but win or loose go shake the other guys hand, and train harder for the next time.

  7. Worthmatt: you are right about the fact , some small schools can wrestle the big schools out of the gym. A few...Most cant. There is a plus and a negative to almost everything. The posative thing about this is (supposed) to be that smaller schools that dont currently have a wrestling program will be more encouraged to start a program with hopes od being able to compete in the small school division fairly soon after starting their program. If it bring more schools and more kids into the sport then it has been a positive thing. Coaches can allways set up a tournament for the best six or eight schools,(both big and small division school) in the state and call it king of the bluegrass or something like that so that woodford and LaRue can compete against Ryle and Campbell co and a few others.

  8. My whole point about this thing isnt what state you are from. plee's comments are exactly right. In other states kids start at the elementry school age and belong to clubs. These clubs practice two or three nights a week and go to a tournament EVERY weekend from October all the way thru till the T.O.F.C .. By the time these kids get to the middle school age they have had countless hours of mat time , drilling and live wrestling. I want Ky to be able to compete with other states but we have to increase the numbers of kids and schools that are involved in the sport.

  9. Grapplinfan. Thats exactly what I mean. They were brought up in the sport elsewhere and the move here into their highschool career and are dominating. My hope is that one day (maybe when my two sons have sons in middle or high school) we will be able to compete with our neighboring states on the same level.

  10. This is just my two cents worth on the small school big school thing. Having moved here from Ohio , I have been to our state tournament as well as theirs three times. If the number I was told last year was accurate(if), we only have 73 schools total in this state that have wrestling. Ohio has three divisions with about 70 some schools in each divisions. They have 16 man brackets for each divisions and crown three state champs in each weight class. This format makes for a great tournament. If I understand this whole thing right, the point behind creating two divisions here is in the hopes of more schools starting wrestling programs. That is certainly a step in the right direction. Small schools will still compete against big schools throught the year . The only seperation should we decide to follow in Ohio format would be that team duals are seperate, and tehre would be two state champions in each weight class.

  11. 152vhs. You are exactly right about kids from other states coming here and winning. Untill we get out of this (best in our state) mentality and start to travel and wrestle schools from Oh, W.Va ,In and realize that even though a school may be tough in our state we cant YET compete with good schools from other states. I may be wrong here, but I feel like our schools shy away from out of state compitition just so they can sport a good win loss record.
