No IRISHWRESTLER we dont need to get over more than one champion thing in several weight classes. If you all want to call this the Elementary School State Championships then lets have a CHAMPION. Otherwise lets change the name of it and nobody will have a complaint about it. But congratulations to the young men who won this year.

Opinions on Kentucky Youth State Tournament

lol at yodawrestles.... perfect quote though. lets call it the ...lers make everyone feel good tournament. if this is ran under the same dictatorship as this year I would not drive across the street to attend. instead I will drive to columbus have all the compitition my son can handle and then some and have a feelings of accomplishment if he wins a 16 man bracket or more.. everyone has their opinion but this is taking wrestling in our state in the wromg direction

Opinions on Kentucky Youth State Tournament

WRESTLINGMOM,: if you read my post I said thanks to the folks from JC for their hard work and for hosting the tournament. I greatly appreciate their hard work!! Thanks again. But the point I am making is if you were to go and watch any other state tournament you would understand how rediculous it is to be there from 8 am to 8pm to wrestle two matches! TWO MATCHES. twelve hours. And we are the onlly state that I have ever heard of with two, three or four state champions in one weight class.

Opinions on Kentucky Youth State Tournament

Old Grappler.....I agree 100% with everything you said EVERYTHING except never having a tournamnet at Johnson Centeral again. I didnt even mind the 3 1/2 hour drive untill I drove that far to only have two matches and have two other state champions in the same weight class!!! This is a joke!! I voiced my opinion and was told, not by Johnson Centeral people, but everyone else that the goal was to keep more kids involved. If this is the case, then have a youth touranemt evey weekend, then have a either four or eight districts tournaments out of which the top 4 advance for state and have a 16 or 32 man bracket.. Lets crown a TRUE STATE CHAMPION. All that I keep hearing isthis youth program as well as middle school are supposed to be patterned after high school but this was an absolute joke by the people who made the decisions. Folks need to realize that yesterdays tournamnet turns more people away from the sport than keeping them involved. I would be emabraced to tell anyone my sons was ONE of our state champions if they knew he had a seven man bracket and two other state champions in the same weight class...Thanks very much to the people from Johnson Centeral for your hard work and for hosting the tournament.

How bad were the refs this year

I was only at the tournament Saturday. I cant comment on the rest of the topurnamnet, but I felt the officiating was pretty good most of Saturday. I saw two refs that I felt really made some bad calls but for the most part the rest seemed to be pretty compitant. I am an official myself, certafied in two states and have gotten flack from a few coaches for what they felt were bad calls so I understand the position of the ref.. Here is all I can say on the officiating in Ky. Not enough guys are up to date on the rule changes from year to year. I understand we are very short here, but turning a blind eye to bad officiating because we are short to begin with is not going to solve the problem. And secondly as an official all that you can do on the mat is remain consistant with your calls no matter what the score or how much time is remaining on the clock or if its a first round match or the finals. BE CONSISTANT from statr to finish with all your calls, wheather it be on the edge takedowns or stalling.

who was the most outstanding wrestler?

    Most Outstanding Wrestler.... M.O.W

How bad were the refs this year

My two cents on officiating in Ky, is that the requirements to be certified are not nearly strict enough, therefore we have alot of bad officiating. But just my opinion is that stalling isnt called nearly enough here. If you disagree you need only to get a copy of the NFHS rule book and read the section on stalling. Myself, my son and our middle school coaches watched Grahm OH (#1ranked team in the nation) against Moeller in a dual a couple weeks ago and our middle school coaches were AMAZED how quick the officials in Ohio are to call stalemates and stalling. Stalling and quicker stalemate calls force wrestlers to continue to move and wrestle instead of hold on and slowing down the action. This can only be better for the spectators and the continued growth in popularity of the sport

who was the most outstanding wrestler?

I have to say Harrison Courtney for M.O.W., but I was VERY impressed with Zarth at 119.

    elementary school state

Just curious who will be competing at Elementary School State at 90, 95 and 110 lbs?

    Best in the State

UBTAPPIN. I can give you two kids that I know of just off the top of my head. Grant Palmer and Garth Yenter, both whom are very good wrestlers and good students but look at their weight. Both wrestled 82lbs as a 8th grader. If it falls in line with the KHSAA, and for the record my son is NOT a holdback kid, But if it is in line with the KHSAA guidelines, then apparently it is fair

    Best in the State

Well said RYLEDAD and I agree totally that John Fahy is a notch above anyone else in Middle School wrestling in KY, as well as a very likeable young man. Congratulations John and good luck in High School as well as in National tournaments

    Best in the State

UBTAPPIN: you say" to hold a child back solely for athletics is ridiculous!" let me ask this.. What about some of theses kids that are 8th graders and are wrestling 75 or 82 lbs weight classes. What type of a high school experience are theses kids going to have based on the fact that they are so under sized in comparison to everyone else? its obvious that they most certainly will never step foot on the football field in high school until possibly their junior or senior year. not to mention wrestling 103 as a freshman only weighing maybe 90lbs or so. With boys sports do play a part in their self esteem and self confidence not to mention the fact of gym class getting dressed and undressed among your peers that are 30, 50 or maybe 70 to 80 lbs heavier due to this particular child not hitting puberty as early as most.. I respect your opinion but to make a statement like holding a child back solely for athletics is ridiculous, is a bit unfair. But once again, just my opinion

    Best in the State

I am going to stick my two cents in on this. My son is a 6th grader who lost this year to the (OLDER) 8th grade kids. Where his birthday falls he could be held back and repeat the 6th grade. He is an honor roll student and himself does not want to be held back only for sports so he will move up to the 7th next year. Listen, despite what your opinion may or may not be the fact is that as long as this complies with the KHSAA rules and guidelines like it or not it is acceptable and everyone has that same opportunity.

OK I understand. Not necessary to compete in one of the regional to compete at Youth State. Thanks

    Middle School Rankings 1/6/08

Does Vince Lewis not wrestle for McCreary Co this year? If I am not mistaken he wrestled for McCreary co last year. Does anyone know if he is a 6th or 7th grader?

    I think 96 or maybe 110.

    96 # State

Offthemat; I will go with Fahy Paden Whitaker Holtsclaw Jones Willen Depending on what side of the bracket they are all on of course
  23. refdad

    Region 3

Lane Jones quitting had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the match with Kevin Cooper. These two kids have now wrestled 6 times with 4-2 advantage to Jones. Yes Kevin is a very talanted wrestler and will no doubt follow his brothers as a state champion and yes he dominated Jones in last weeks dual meet but that match had nothing to do with this decision. To make it as short and to the point as I can I only need to say "burnout". Good luck to all state qualifiers at Middle School State

    state champ

Yes John Fahy will be wrestling Ky Middle School State again this year and will probably major or pin everyone is his bracket. Also I agree Outside Sweep that 110lbs could go to ANY of the top 4
