Sad state for arithmatic in America

For all of you that have never tried it, don't be so quick to criticize. Try officiating a match that has several flurries and you look up after a take down two reversals and one set of back points and see both coaches with their hand up saying the score is wrong! Well yeah, it probably is because your table help are highschool or junior high kids that are not paying attention because they are too worried about play grab butt with their boyfriend/ girlfriend. A really up tempo match requires a lot of hustle and focus to be in position and make the correct calls so despite what a lot of you may think the official has more to do than keep track of the margin of difference in the score. I will be the first to say that some officials we have in Kentucky are less than first grade but a lot of you nay sayers need to try it for yourself before you make fun or criticize!

    Underated wrestlers

Workhard; I was hoping it was sarcasm. Thanks for clearing that up, unfortunately there are people on here that would make those type comments for real. Good luck to the young Mr. Pledger, his hard work is paying off and also good luck to your sons this season

    Underated wrestlers

Workhard; I don't know if your serious with that comment or your joking or being sarcastic but if you are serious I have two things to say. Firstly, it takes zero class to get on here and say something negative about a kid. Zero class! Secondly if your are serious in saying he is terrible you are an idiot. The kid would most certainly beat you,. Don't get on this site and make negative comments about a kid!

    Underated wrestlers

There is a kid at 135 from st. X with the last name pleasure that deserves to be ranked. I think he will surprise a lot of people this year. Very solid kid.

It is truly amazing to me how little most people in our state really know about the sport of wrestling. Any time a kid and or family is truly committed to being great others want to complain about them being "obsessed" or " going too far" and so on. Everybody claims the want to be a state champion but VERY VERY few are willing to do what it takes to achieve that goal. I am amazed at Mark Halls ability at this age and can only wish my kids were half that committed. And yes, as far as the "The" Ohio coach goes, he has built an empire out of plain ole hard nose drilling and out working everybody else and I think is the best wrestling coach in our country

Well, I suppode I might as well throw my two cents worth in on this topic. Let me start by saying what my opinion on this whole matter is. Firstly, I don't agree on what his happening here. The fact that the Halls relocated to Ky last year was fine with me. The problem I had with the whole situation was when they move back to Michigan immediately following the State Tournament last year and expected( or so I think anyway) to repeat the whole process again this year. This was my only problem with the whole situation. I don't care that the kid was held back. Even though I don't happen to agree on the whole thing, I think all of you who have made statements like " this is not whats best for the kid" or" the kid runs that family" and so on have no wright to judge. Probably none of you know these people personally and have spoken to this kid or heard the words out of his mouth that he don't want to move or be held back or any thing of the sort. Don't judge what you don't know all the facts about people! If my son lived and breathed wrestling like this kid obviously does, I would provide every opportunity for him that my means would allow. Until you are in someone Else's shoes don't pass judgement. For those of you who keep commenting about dominating Middle School tournaments, as KYCOACH pointed out, this kid is beating Nationally ranked high school kids. NOTFROMHERE, you said there is no money to be made in wrestling. This is an ignorant statement. I would venture to say that a certain high school coach in OHIO has built a fortune (probably a millionare at this point) doing what he loves. This kid has the potential to be one of the best wrestlers ever in the United States. Maybe to the level of Dan gable or Cale Sanderson. The potential I said, still remains to be seen how it plays out, but you don't think these men have made a very comfortable living off the sport of wrestking?

    How to become an official?

I agree completely. You should hustle when on the mat and always try to be in position, stay consistant in out of bounds calls and what your opinion of control and reaction time is and never let personal feelings toward a coach or program or wrestling come into play. Glad to hear at least a little positive towards officials. Thanks

    How to become an official?

To be a certified official in Ohio, its a requirement to attend one state meeting and four district meetings every year to stay current on all new rule changes and have discussions on a different topic ( stalling, take downs & reversals, infractions, and so on) at each meeting. I suggested this to Julian Tackett of the KHSAA about 6 or 7 years ago and was told that we are so short of officials in Kentucky, that they ( KHSAA) we afraid that if the requirements to be a certified official were tuffer that we would be even more short of officials. Not sure which is the worse situation, 1. being short of officials and having several bad ones or 2. being even more short that we currently are but those who are certified are more current on the rules and do a better job. Either way unless you are willing to put on the stripes and whistle and try it yourself, try giving the refs a break

    Region 6 Predictions

My apologies for the misinterpretation... And Bearcat, I didn't mean to imply these we the only five on the team or imply they were the best kids on the team, only that they were all incoming 9th graders. I also think Jake Higgins is a incoming 9th grader this year as well. I am not familiar with everyone on Waltons team but i know all the kids I listed earlier are incoming Froshman is all.

    Region 6 Predictions

KYCoach- You said Raiders statement was funny. ?? Colin Roth at 103 Clay Brown at 103/112 Logan Jones at 125/130 Nick Tannenbaum at 130/135 Dru Shroer at 140/145.. Thats a pretty fair incoming class 9th graders. Obviously they wont be contending to win the Region for a few more years, if then, but thats 5 solid 9th graders. I believe thats all Raider was saying. Guess I don't see whats funny there :|
  18. Excuse the spelling. Thats awsome (fat fingered a key. And Caleb Ervin that is not Irvin
  19. well thats awsomw, but my question is this: Caleb Irvin wrestled 140 last year, is this a mistake to be ranked at 135 (which I am assuming) or did he actually go down in weight? Its awsome to see 2 kids from Ky nationally ranked. I thought we may have seen Fahy nationally ranked as well.
  20. You talked to him about it? And his reply to your advice was what? I will believe that hes not coming when I see the season start without him in Ryle's line up

    Best in the Bluegrass

He won the NHSCA sophmore nationals last year in VA Beach
  22. Can anyone confirm if there is a plan in the works to reschedule? Its certainly unfortunate if it has to be next weekend due to high school regionals but this is all about Middle School State Championships. I have read several solutions for next year and to follow but what is in the works for this year?

    State Brackets and Predictions

:-o.. Would have never believed that. I stand corrected apparently. I am not sure exactly what teams are in what region now but I would have to think the majority of those numbers were produced by Union Co and Larue??

    State Brackets and Predictions

No D.W., but I am a realist. lets look at the results of state the last 4 to 5 years as well as tournament results. There are certainly good teams and good kids elsewhere but as a region I would be willing to bet region 3 has the most state placers as well as champions on a consistant basis. Good luck everybody at state.
