  1. Campbell County still has openings for 1/9.  Anyone looking for a tournament that date...please let me know through this website.  This is a 16 man bracket tournament with teams from Ohio, WV, & In committed.  Should be a tough tournament.  We will only take 12 teams so we can have room for extras.  So far we have 8 in:

    Amelia

    Campbell County

    Fern Creek

    Conner

    New Richmond

    Milton, W.V.

    Summit View

    Mater Dei, IN

  2. Listen i'm not saying Courtney wasn't dominate cause he was. I just remember watching Ruschell wrestle and just being "wowed". In high school wrestling esp. in Kentucky i never seen anyone so fluid and explosive and technical and smart. Kyle never seemed out of position. Same way with both Murton brothers. I just remember watching Kyle wrestle and being like he is going to be Big time one day.

I completely agree, Rushell & Brad Cooper are the 2 wrestlers I remember watching and being "wowed" by.  I also have to admit that John Fahy too.  I remember seeing him as like a 6th grader wrestle and learning stuff from him.

Old140, I would have the same exact list...might change the order, but those are the top 5 i've seen.

  3. Courtney didn't dominate like Ruschell did, like Murton did, like Cooper did (didn't mean to forget him, he should be in my top 5) or like Starks did there last two years. Yeah he had a steller career no one can argue that but he didn't dominate in the manner the 4 previous mention did their last two years of high school. Just my opinion so don't crucify me.

Courtney wasn't as dominant his senior year as Ruschell or some of those other guys were, but remember he wrestled 152 before his senior year at Super 32 and went back up to wrestle 160 for the season.  He looked smaller than normal down state and I think he was more suited for a 152 lber.  He still only had 2 "fairly" close matches, 8-3 & 8-0.  If he had went 152 for the year he may have been more dominating.  You never know.

However, look back at his junior year bracket.  He had 3 pins & 2 tech falls, 15-0 & 16-0.  He beat Kyle Griffith in the semis without breaking a sweat 16-0.  Kyle was a very good wrestler.  I'm not crucifying you in any way, but Harrison is definitely a top 5 best high school wrestler in the past decade and on my list he'd be #1.  What has been accomplished after high school is a no brainer and goes to Ruschell.  But in high school Courtney was the man.

  4. College wrestling programs are the best way to improve the quality of wrestling as a state.  It may take a little longer for the trickle down effect to work but no doubt the most effective.

I think you are 100% right about that.  When some of these guys start picking up head coaching jobs throughout the state I think you are going to see Kentucky take off.

So here's a question to any of the college coaches I see logging onto this site.  What do you need the public to do to show support?  Show up at dual meets, attend camps, what else can help?  Writing letters?

  5. I'm going with Larue County.  They took 7th last year and should be greatly improved with 8 very young returning state qualifiers with a lot of experience.  I also think Cooper will improve dramatically this year.  They were impressive for a first year program.

  6. We have talked about splitting the times next year with Freestyle and Sombo in the morning and Folkstyle in the afternoon.  Another way to assure you don't wait 7 hours is to sign up for the other styles.  If your son would have wrestled freestyle or greco he would not have had to wait very long for his first match.  We also talked about bringing another group of refs in for the folkstyle part of the tournament.  The refs did an excellent job with the greco and freestyle portion but it definately seemed like they lost interest when it came to folkstyle.  The ref on our mat kept leaving between matches and one of the coaches stepped up to ref some matches for us.

Did they have all 4 styles going on at once?  All of the USAW tournaments I've been to they have not done this.  Splitting the styles into their own session is definitely the way to go.

  7. Wow I never knew that. I've never really locked hands before so this is new stuff to me.

I was not aware of this either until I was coaching a m.s. kid and he locked hands and then released....I screamed out at him to keep his hands locked, sooo he locked them a second time.  The ref blew the whistle and called the 2 locking hands.  Big time screw up on a coach's part.  The kid ended up being 1 locking hands call away from forfeiting the match.

  8. is there a mow at nationals? if so id say caleb has a good shot at getting it with a win in the finals.

I think there is.  There's a mow at Senior Nationals for sure.  I agree with you.  He has a tough kid in the finals though.  He won Freshman nationals last year and is originally from Great Bridge, Va and moved to Alabama.  Don't think I'm a stalker, i just did a google search on this kid and read an article on him.

  9. Holy **IT...he's pinned into the finals now!!  Go Caleb!  I always knew that kid was gonna be a stud.  Good luck in the finals.  The kid he pinned in the first period placed 5th in the state of California.  Caleb can straight up whoop some butt.

  10. go to www.iswa.com.  There are always good freestyle tournaments going on in Indiana this time of year.  Cincinnati has a few, but they don't advertise them very well.  You can look at www.ohiowrestler.com but doubt you will find one.
