Hey, at least you got the ball rolling. Keep it going and improve a little each year. It will be a great thing for 9th & 10th graders in the future.

I seen a horrific violation of this manlaw coaching middle school. Without calling out the kid, let's say he was from a school in the Oldham County area. Our kid was wrestling this kid, he put his 5 on our guy's 2....and squeezed until his KNUCKLES turned white!!! The kid was beating our kid too, so there was really no reason other than just wanting to watch 1/2 the gym squirm. It was very well hidden from the ref's view, but very clear in my view. We are still hoping our kid can spawn some day....but only time will tell. The kid's dad is a big intimidating fellow, and I thought we were going to have to tranquilize his dad when he seen his kid getting the jewels worked over.

You & coach Thomas are doing a good thing here. The teams that want to contend for the title in the future will not resist and will get right on board with any JV opportunities. The teams that lag behind and ignore their jv teams, will fall further and further behind and whine about it the whole time instead of doing something about it.

That's pretty funny...i think you may have me confused though, i don't wear suspenders. That would be Coach Badida from Conner. and he definitey has a voice that carries!
-
It's funny you say that, because he is quiet as can be until he's coaching wrestling. Then yes, his voice has some bass!

It didn't look like Mitchell made a "mistake". Shotwell just worked him over really, I will say i was surprised how much shotwell took control AFTER the initial takedown by Mitchell. But seriously, after that point it was all shotwell. Actually, Davis placing 8th might have also had something to do with the kid from Central Hardin too...he was pretty tough. I didn't see the match, but I bet he beat Davis. Either that, or Davis injury defaulted the rest of the day after his match with shotwell.
-
I believe Davis was at 140, and lost to Shotwell. Shotwell was in "the zone" this weekend. Wrestled very well. Davis took quite a bit of injury time if I'm remembering the match correctly, he may have been done for the day.
-
Mitchell - Shotwell. Mitchell is a tough kid, he started the match with a beautiful blast double, but it was all Shotwell from there. I believe he was up 7-2 and pinned him in the 2nd.

140 was Korey Shotwell from CC, 145 was Kyle Griffith from CC 152 1. Josh Ashbrook 2. Toby Liang CC 3. Jakes - Larue 4. Franklin County 160 1. Beau Sanders 2. Jake Lee CC 3. S. Oldham 171 1. Thomas Brownfield CC 215 1. Matt Green HWT 1. Big dude from Florida 2. Fuller CC

I thought this was a great format. I'm surprised more schools don't host events like this. Good job to Lafayette & their staff. It was a very well ran tournament. In my opinion.

I hate to say this, but beggars can't be choosers. You would be extremely lucky to get a dedicated wrestling room in the state of Ky at a startup school. You can ask for another room such as a classroom, and move the desks & chairs out before & after practice or a cafeteria. Good luck to you, that's a bummer.

I seen this at www.khsaa.org, and thought there might be some clubs who are looking for mats that can take advantage of this discount through their school: http://www.khsaa.org/wrestling/kydemo2008.pdf

That's a shame, he always seemed like a nice kid. Hope you heal well Josh!

I agree with you there, I think Josh will win it, but i just seriously doubt it will be a "kill". We'll see. That will be another great match to watch for down state. -
If you are talking all time, there has been a ton of placers at the GMV from SK....even me (3rd in 88 :-). The people I can think of for sure are: Mike Lee - 1st jr year, 2nd sr year Matt Lee - 4th jr year, 1st sr year MOW Tommy Storms 1st or 2nd, multiple placer Steven & Paul Kaiser - steven took 2nd to a PA state champ...not sure what Paul did Jamie Brewer Chuck Reimer John Roth Dave Barnes won it in 88, beat a D1 state runner up from Xenia in the finals That's off the top of my head, there are probably more. That is a beast of a tournament. The competition has gone up for sure recently with Graham there.

Old School - i was totally joking about the CC thing. I'm not sure if these kids are in Ryle's lineup or not...i was just messin with Grapplehed. They definitely aren't at CC.

I gotta disagree with the Johnson will kill Ervin comment. Watch out for Ervin, he is very, very tough. I expect a very good match between these 2. -
There is some truth here, it turned out they ended up going to Campbell County. Billy Fuller was pinned in 1:11 seconds, so he is now our JV hwt. The younger brother was a freshman last year, and placed 3rd at Fargo. He will probably go 119-130. He weighs about 125 naturally and no one under 171 at CC could keep from being pinned by him so he is now Thomas Brownfield's workout partner. Obviously, just kidding. If it's true, congrats to their coaches & program.

Totally agree. Dillon should control the whole match.

settle down wildman, it won't be as easy of a win as you think there.

Large public university to start wrestling team?
plee replied to BluegrassRiver's topic in College Wrestling
I would think getting a program started at U of L, UK, or even NKU is probably several years out at best. The club teams that are at a couple of the universities sound like the best way to start the seeds of a true program. How are these club teams doing? If they do really well (numbers wise) it seems like that would be useful to show the school president or AD that there is enough interest in the sport at their school. -
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ very BORING DR. NERDOID! I dont think Joe B came up with that name, or what it stands for.....not a knock on Joe at all (he is 100% class from what I've known of him), I just thought I heard somewhere that he seen that somewhere else.....maybe another club or something in Ohio. The TRUE meaning of No-Ox is really cool. (not dr. supernerd's definition). If anyone has that, please post that on here so i can remember that definition instead of this one.

I heard a rumor that Boone County High School is trying to get a h.s. program started. Does anyone know if this is true? Just curious.
