  1. I don't know about NOONE...maybe not many from this state, but the year we went to the Border Wars nationals, there were over 20 states represented. 1 kid that stood out as a top notch wrestler was Gus Sako. About a 20-30 time national champion. D1 state champ from Ohio this year for Lakewood St. Ed's.
  2. Not likely unless he has a significant growth spurt.

    On to College

the msu coach was at our state tournament and planned on watching 3 kids. 112 - Travis Sullivan, 160 - Mitch Ervin, 171 - Mason Reid. i spoke to him around the quarter finals and he had a very interesting comment. he said a kid that really impressed him was an 8th grader from Larue County - Barnard Ray. I thought this is good information to share for all the younger kids watching this message board. here's a college scout coming down here primarily to watch Reid, but notices a younger kid who was busting his butt at state. if he keeps it up and can make the grades, he might very well land a big 10 scholarship some day. you never know who's paying attention while you're on the mat!! i'm sure mom & dad ray would LOVE for their kid to land a scholarship like that.

    Out of season tourneys?

OldSchool85 - not sure what area of the state you are, but the 2 best places I've found for off season tourneys are Indiana & Ohio. You can find tourneys at their websites: www.ohiowrestler.com www.iswa.com Indiana is mostly freestyle/greco in the off season.

    State Results

There is not an "overall" champion. The 2 aren't combined to crown an overall champion because they play by different rules (i.e. club teams can have members from out of district). But it is human nature to look and want to compare the club vs school team divisions, it's just not comparing apples to apples.

    region 3 Rankings

Well, if he's a senior, i thought the rules said he couldn't compete...so i agree with you there. But since he took 2nd, it's hard to argue that he was too good to be there. I would think if that was true that he would have dominated his weight class.

    State Dual Results

  21. as far as fs/gr wrestling goes, there is a league in Cincinnati, and there are tournaments there almost every weekend. i think they get started in april. they don't advertise them very well, other than through emails. they also have weekly scrimmages. the catch is they combine schools to form a club since the numbers go way down in the off season. for example harrison ohio had the "cornhuskers" club, and they combined Harrison, Ross, and like 3 other schools. i have talked to some of the coaches over there, and they will welcome out of area teams in their league. i'm sure if some louisville area teams were interested, they could combine a couple of schools and join that league. the really nice thing about usaw & fs tournaments is they do not have a 5 match rule, and they run their brackets "oddly". I don't fully understand how it worked, but it was based on a point system....the net result is....every bracket is potentially round robin. if you show up and have 8 kids in a bracket you may get 7 matches. enter multiple brackets, and you may be able to do this twice. you will get a LOT of matches in each tournament. the matches are quicker though, and they have mandatory rest between periods so it's not like you're going to drop dead after 10 matches. kdsmith or coach g probably know of the cincinnati league and how to get started there....if they do not, and you are interested, pm me and i will try to find a contact.

    Region 3

fyi - i'm not sure if your cut and paste didn't work, but i believe darrien wolnitzek from Conner won the 185 lbs weight class? not 100% sure, but i heard he took 1st in a weight class there.

    The Draft

lol....i must be the easiest target in the world on here! if i was drafting 1 kid...it would depend on what grade my team is going to peak at. if i had a strong 9th grade class..i'd probably go with Caleb Ervin....(and hope he'd bring all his brothers, sisters, cousins...etc). If i had a strong 8th grade class...probably John Fahy - get a 2 for 1 deal, because his younger brother is pretty daggone slick himself. 7th grade, i'd probably go for Darrien Wolnitzek....just to lure his parents away from Conner. HAHA - just kidding, no one get their panties in a wad over that.

    Why would you?

i wouldn't say so, a lot of them are legitimately the best in that spot. josh johnson was a runner up as an 8th grader, Matt Sloan took 3rd as an 8th grader.

    Why would you?

we've had this discussion at the coaches meetings many times....and it's been a thread on this site before. the reason it is not a rule is because most people feel it is a coaches decision on what is best for the kid. 1 h.s. coach will say "I'm not risking a possible injury - the kid is too valuable to my h.s. team" another h.s. coach will say "you only have 1 chance to be a m.s. state champ, let the kid compete". It's a judgement call. Personally, i feel it's an honor to be a m.s. state champ and it's important to the kids...let them compete.
