I would vote for Bruce Baumgartner. 4 olympics and 4 medals.

ridge44 - I'd also add this warning. I don't know if this is 100% true or not, but I have heard people "theorize" that you lose some flexibility when you are on this supplement. Your muscles are pumped full of water. You will look a lot bigger. But I think you are more susceptible to muscle tears while on this. My son took it and said he could tell he wasn't as flexible when he was on it. I talked to a personal trainer about this and he said every time he took creatine and played sports (not just lifting) he ended up with some sort of muscle injury. I've not seen any articles proving this or anything, just something I've heard. But in the off season it is a great supplement I think.

That very well may have been what happened. All weekend long it seemed like the crowd was booing the OSU wrestlers for basically stalling. Palmer did really nothing offensively in both matches with Kyle.
-
He lost to Palmer in the big 10's, but he's also beaten Palmer last year I remember for sure. What is the career record between these 2 wrestlers? Are they 1-1?
-
I was wondering about that myself. Tannelli looks tough, but I watched Kyle wrestle Metcalf earlier in the year and he gave Metcalf the best match I've seen anyone give him all year. I think if Kyle is healthy for this weekend he will place very high.

:-D :-D That's some funny stuff right there. You have some good points, and I'm definitely being a monday morning quarterback here. So by all means, feel free to disagree with my suggestion. I have just always been a big fan of the dual meet tournament championship for crowning the team champ. Other states do this at the h.s. level, and it is truly different than the way our state crowns the team champ. Last year Trinity won the h.s. state duals, but Union County won state (by a large margin). Who was the better TEAM? Honestly, Trinity was. They won head to head. Union County had more true studs, but Trinity had a more balanced team. I can't see it any other way, if you beat a team in a dual meet head to head, you are the better team. Anyway, more importantly then crowning the "true champ", it's just way easier scoring wise to do a dual meet format. You don't have to worry about seeding and the top 2 kids meeting in the first round, etc. It seems every year after elementary state there is a controversy over the brackets or the team score or something. If team scoring is truly important, then I think what I suggested above would be an improvement over what's done today. As far as the age limit issue, if that's a big deal then I guess change the bylaws to make sure kids are in the 6th grade and below. Whatever makes the most sense. I don't know. How do other states determine the cut off?

Campbell County seniors: Caleb Schneider Dusty Brown Justin Black Jake Ilg All great kids, and a pleasure to root for this year.
-
If it's brown, flush it down!! Congrats Ryan, that's bigtime right there. They have a great program. Good luck to you there. My college teams to root for are going to be Wisconsin, MSU, ARMY, All the kentucky colleges, & CSU now.

A team duals tournament, under lights with a face off for the finals. would be very cool for the kids!
-
I don't see the "numbers advantage" as a bad thing. Why is that a bad thing? If I was coaching a h.s. team, and we had 14 kids and the other team had 7....we have an advantage, and will probably win. That's the way it goes. If it's too hard for youth teams to fill all the weight classes, then get rid of some of the weight classes. Honestly, why not have an individual state tourney with no team scores...and then have a dual meet state tournament for the team title the following weekend, or maybe the following day. The team title could be like a 16 team dual meet tourney. You could invite teams with the highest number of medal winners from the individual tourney in the oldest age group. This has been discussed on this site before, but I think some other states (maybe Indiana & Wisconsin) do this for High School. What a cool tournament the team tournament would be if it was a dual meet tournament!!! Everyone is talking about the intense rivalry between Ryle & Conner in an individual tourney. Can you imagine them 2 youth teams facing off for the finals in a dual meet?

I do see what you are saying. I agree. IF you are going to have a wrestle off, do it for all weight classes. But in 90% of the weight classes, we would have simply been re-wrestling the state finals. So if you were a state champ from Union County, would you like to drive three hours to Louisville to wrestle a 1 match wrestle off against a kid you beat the week before in the m.s. state finals? You may like it, but I can guarantee your coach or parent wouldn't. So we decided to only do a wrestle off where a kid challenged for a spot. And like my above post stated we only had 1 request for a wrestle off. The rest of the weight classes no one even challenged. Re-wrestling the state finals for a weight class that's already decided doesn't make sense.

About 3 years ago when I was m.s. president, I suggested we have wrestle offs for team ky. It was a big mistake on my part to be honest with you. The way we did it was each kid that placed in the top 4 got a card inviting them to a wrestle off. If you were interested you had to send me an email to confirm. I thought we'd get a lot of kids interested. We had 1 kid ask for a wrestle off. It was in a weight class that did not correspond to a ky middle school weight class. Honestly, the way it's always been done is just the coach hand picks the best team. For all the weight classes that directly align with USAW weight classes, just take the state champ. For weights that don't match exactly, just pick them or maybe have a wrestle off for those spots.

...wait a second, i just said a long time for another 4-timer...without thinking about Fahy or Cooper. I think both of these kids have a shot. Fahy I even expect if from him. Cooper will make a great run of it...but we'll see.
-
That would have been very cool. They do an ok job of recognizing coaches (they could still do better I think), but the KHSAA dropped the ball on Courtney. I'm sure he doesn't care though. It might be a long time before we see another 4-timer.
-
Neil Cooper won it once I think.

If the Carr's wrestled in this state, this would not even be a discussion. They'd be it hands down. But from what I've read, didn't they all wrestle in Pennsylvania in H.S. with the exception of Joe Carr Jr? I know Joe Sr & maybe others wrestled in college at UK...but I don't think that counts. I'd have to go with the Ervins on this one. Even though IPEA is statistally right. The Ervins are simply amazing wrestlers to me.
-
These are also 2 of the coaches that I have been very impressed with in the past few years (not just their style, their coaching as well). Zarth is a very good technician, and they always seem to keep their cool in close matches. It seems to rub off on their wrestlers.

I know I wish he would have cut to 152!! :-D :-D Him and his family are great people, total class act. I expected a little more hoopla after he won in the finals as well. Was surprised there wasn't an anouncement made following emphasizing a 4-time champ or something like that. Good luck to you Harrison in whatever you do after high school wrestling.

best wrestler ever to be in middle school wrestling

Courtney is awesome, but I'd still have to go with John Fahy. He won m.s. state like 5 or 6 times. His last 2 or 3 years people ran from him. He too probably would have placed in high school state while in middle school if he was anywhere near a high school weight class. -

high school wrestlers popping back up in middel school
plee replied to mccc_wrestling's topic in Youth Wrestling
Good point. This has been debated by the m.s. association in the past and rules were presented to prevent kids with certain # of varsity matches from wrestling m.s. It should be up to the coaches & parents and based on what is best for the kid. Besides, if your team wrestles out of state much aren't m.s. aged kids in our state prohibited from wrestling varsity in other states? -

Cumberlands vs. Campbellsville Dual Results 11/26
plee replied to danmoody's topic in College Wrestling
I noticed that the lineups changed quite a bit since the 11/14 preview dual meet. Is this a result of some upsets in wrestle offs, guys getting down to weight, injuries, or what? Just curious. Are both teams at full strength at this point in the season?
