    woodford vs larue 2007

I don't know his weight situation, but he looked to be a big 130 pounder. Perhaps he was cutting more weight than he should have been cause he didn't want to bump the 135 pounder and it caught up with him. Just trying to think up a good reason. If i was on the guy's team, and he missed his weight for a reason that wasn't good ESPECIALLY at regions i would be really mad at him. And these two guys obviously from Fern Creek don't seem angry with him in the least. Thus, i'm guessing maybe there's something goofy about what happened that we don't know about and shouldn't pass judgement on (though i'm curious). So i wouldn't make my own conjecture on that. I think he wouldn't get majored by Peace, Peace is somewhat a control wrestler with a 4 point loss to him equating to losing by 8 to some guys. But i won't dispute what you're saying about Parker or Howard with respect to the major (next year who knows). They're both pretty unorthodox and at least Parker is pretty agressive.

toughtest wt. classes in 2006 state tourney.

Ervin originally got hurt at Christian Co invitational, the way i heard it. That was indeed, a few weeks before state.

By the way, being able to sensibly give Fern Creek a chance at winning it all based on the stat sheet has me excited as a fan. I like seeing new blood in this hunt.

Monkeyroll, What you ignore is if Wood had likely not been hurt, you'd possibly have Fern Creek ONE short in the champ and returning placer count. Had Jackson made weight, they'd be tied with Woodford in the placers department probably. With the Jackson factor, worst case scenario for Fern Creek even had Wood not won is probably as follows ... Woodford: 9 returning qualifiers 5 returning state placers 3 returning state champs Larue: 11 returning qualifiers 5 returning state placers 0 returning state champs Fern Creek: 11 returning qualifiers 5 returning state placers 1 returning state champ That doesn't really look like a walk by Woodford reconsidered in those terms ... now does it ?

For., DQ, and Dflt. at the 2006 state tourney.

Collins deserved getting tossed for that too. It was an illegal move, and Marks was obviously hurt bad. Granted, it was probably an accident Marks getting slammed that bad. However, accident or not it was an illegal move and the DQ was the only choice the ref could make. Had it stopped there, Collins should have been allowed to wrestle in consols. But to curse, swear, holler, throw your head gear, and show absolutely no concern for a wrester who had no clue where he was (Marks was on dream street ... the coach had to guide the poor guy where they were going after the match) warranted getting tossed from the tourney.

What i like about Fern Creek next year as a team, is they'll have 2-3 state champs (Wood, Jackson, Wolsiefer). Jackson is a big maybe, thats why i say 2-3. I think Wood will have something to prove to himself ... most great wrestlers would feel that way even if they finished 8th cause they were hurt. Wolsiefer is Wolsiefer ... and is capable of beating anyone next year ... which makes him one of the guys i'm counting fom them. They need a little more from the rest of the guys, but they were young this year and i expect they'll get it. Thats roughly what Woodford will have, and will be more than what LaRue will have (Banks maybe). When it comes to Harrison Co, they're good ... but they finished right about where i called them this year ... around 10th. Ross is gone this year, so even if the other guys step up it comes out about the same. I agree this will be the closest team race in years. In addition to Woodford and CC running off with it, South Oldham did in 03 if i remember. One could argue South Oldham was more dominant than Woodford that year, i believe they had like 12-13 guys PLACE and scored 257.

What you're doing is assuming one of those two teams would win it. One could make a strong case for Fern Creek.

    Quality or quanity

No way ... the talent level is what it always has been ... maybe better as the sport has gotten bigger. Look at all the names you had this year alone ... Sullivan, Lewis, Scott, Murton, Courtney, Banks, Cooper and Cooper, Wolsiefer, R Starks, Sherer, Byrd (a healthy Byrd is almost another Sherer). There's no way you're gonna tell me these guys can't hang with the vast majority of the champions from the past. And several of these guys had some non-blowout matches before the finals ... or didn't win state !

Yeah, as i said ... i rank Wolsiefer higher unless Cooper would beat him ... or handles someone who beats him. I just don't think him beating Cooper is a given ... all i was trying to say. 8)

Least Impressive Wrestlers @ State (let downs)

Running shape is way different than wrestling shape ... thats undeniable. I ran Cross Country, and wrestling a match still kicked my butt the first time i'd go live in practice. But when you're hurt, running is better than doing nothing ... it makes getting back in wrestling shape take less time and it sounds like Wood did all he could do with a bad hand of cards.

    Next years regions results?

From what i understand, Shotwell may go as high as 125 or 130 depending. I'd look for him and Deinlein at those two from Campbell, which will be 125 and which will be 130 i don't know. Shotwell grew an outrageous amount in the past year, and i think i heard he had almost outgrown 112 by the end of this year even. Either of them may have something to say about Brown winning 125, but its WAY to early to make conjecture on that. None of the 3 may end up there ! Griffith didn't get back from knee surgery till January. Even if Dillon had an off year, with him having an on year against Griffith in top form it kind of comes out the same then .... very close. Is Peace gonna make 130 again ?

Wolsiefer didn't exactly hand Cooper his butt ... by any means. Actually, he pulled it out ... and it was a great match between two evenly matched beasts. If you were picking Cooper over him it wouldn't be out of line, but i'd still have to rank Wolsiefer higher until Cooper beat him. To say Wolsiefer is the man wherever ... i disagree ... Wolsiefer really only hit the one big move on Cooper. And i suspect a Cooper won't have that happen a second time. If Cooper improves only a fraction of what he did between last year, it could be Wolsiefer chasing Cooper.

Top 3 in Each Weight Class Next Year

Butler was a good wrestler this year, that class was log jammed. He beat Jackson who did score a win over Peace, although Peace handled Butler at state. There were a bunch of very good wrestlers clumped together ... that class went several guys deep (like 10-12).

Least Impressive Wrestlers @ State (let downs)

Very well said AllAmerican. After being hurt, guys that didn't seem that quick before you were hurt are a lot quicker ... in a manner of speaking.

    Best takedown

Starks is so good, he could leap 10 feet into the air ... hover there like a hummingbird, and then do a back somersault and land behind the guy. 8) DA Hornetssssss !! Ok, enough sarcasm ... STarks is awesome ... but come on.

Who has the most painful moves

Yep, trying to hurt someone is ridiculous ... but there's not anything wrong with "persuasion" so long as its within the rules.

    top 215

    top 215

He's from Campbell Co, and he missed placing by one match at 215 this year. Lost to Stone bad that match after a respectable showing against him at regions, but Stone looked impressive that match at state. Fuller wrestled hurt most of the year and is only a sophomore (2nd year wrestler). This kid may make a lot of noise given more time. He's got good strength and is quick and explosive for a big guy.

Who has the most painful moves

I saw a guy literally try to tap out once when Hildreth had him cranked over with the legs in.

Top 5 at 189lbs next year

Until Jones beats Starks, i can't think of ranking him over starks. Unless your picks aren't in any particular order.

    Courtney

I gotta question ... just curiosity is all. Did Courtney go 145 for the team effort, if he was only weighing like 143 as someone said why not 140 ? While he still got it done at 145, the odds of his winning 140 would have been much higher ... nearly a given. Although, i'm guessing Sheehan/Courtney at 140/145 probably worked out better than the other way around.
