Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2016/2017 - JANUARY 3
Zeus replied to Ranger123's topic in High School Rankings
My original post was only referring to wrestle-offs, nothing to do with weight cutting. -
Woodford A and B will be at Bryan Station. Their A team was supposed to go to West Virginia but they had to cancel because of the weather.

I don't mean to say that I'm in favor of requiring a kid to drop weight, that's their call in my opinion. College may be a different story, but not high school. -

On the teams I've been affiliated with, it's the coaches' decision on who is entered into a competition, and I'm not talking about grades or discipline issues. For example, wrestler A may beat wrestler B consistently in practice but wrestler B consistently performs better in competition. I saw this on two occasions on my high school team. Most coaches however heavily weigh the wrestle-off in their decision. Ironically, one individual was wrestler B the first time and then wrestler A a couple of years later. In the second instance, wrestler B was a "big brother" to wrestler A. Wrestler A went on to be a 3x champ while wrestler B was a 1x placer. From the outside looking in it was only mental for the younger wrestler. -
You do know that the WCI is designed as a two-day tournament, correct? However it does have a history of taking forever.

If he works like NatureBoy and I were saying on the rankings thread he could compete for a medal his sophomore year, depending on the weight class, his junior year for sure. Wrestling in KY is bad enough to allow kids who get a late start, but work hard, to see real results. If this were Ohio or some other states it wouldn't be possible.

The lightweight from Whitley is tough, I forget her name but was 106 last year, especially on top. If she could learn to handle the physicality of the better muscle-bound wrestlers she'd be in the mix for a medal at the state tournament.

Is the conference just a wrestling thing or across all sports? It sounds like the city tournament Fayette County requires the programs to have.

This problem is something I've said for years now in observing numerous different tournaments dating back to the middle 2000s when software was first being used. Coach Green is as good and experienced as they come, and I want to attend every year, even if one year has issues. I say bring back the pools to guarantee more matches for everyone, but it's not my tournament.

Barnesville, Ohio Accepting teams for 2017-2018 Tournament

Knowing teams from the Ohio Valley, this looks like a tough tournament for teams from Kentucky. -

Off-season training is where champions are made. Practice at least two days per week, go to some off-season tournaments, and two camps over the summer. You'll be amazed in the difference it will make. -

They're only in their second year as a program, and changed coaches last year to this year. I'd give them a couple of years before criticizing their absence in the rankings. West Jessamine looks to be developing a solid foundation though. -
I'm pretty sure trackwrestling had something to do with the delays. But my opinion is if track, or whatever program, is having issues then just switch to blank brackets and bout sheets for the rest of the tournament and do it by hand. Someone can always go back and enter the results later. In today's world we often feel like we're trapped in using the internet and technology when it sometimes is itself the problem.

Schools with the most college wrestlers in last 20 years
Zeus replied to gameface's topic in High School Wrestling
Would that only include people who graduated in 1996, or people still competing in college in 1996, who would've graduated earlier than that? -

Does one year of college count or would they had to have wrestled all four years? Interesting topic... -

He was injured during football season, but I hear he will be back sometime soon. -
Mr. Myers, I know the result wasn't what we were all hoping but I feel proud at the way Austin represented our state. Tangible examples are having a little attitude when Snyder jumped the gun at the beginning and taking the first shot of the match. As I tell my wrestlers frequently, if Austin makes one adjustment, in this case slowing down the Olympic Champ's best shot, the match looks much different, even though we all know it's easier to said than done. We're all rooting for Austin to continue improving and putting our state on the map nationally with his hard work and performance. He'll get there, and I think sooner rather than later. Sincerely, A fan of your son

While I like kids getting as many matches as possible in dual meets, the thrill of a tournament is exciting. Pool tournaments that place all the way to eight is a great hybrid to get kids as many matches as possible. With 16 full teams each wrestler gets at least three matches, even if they don't win one. It also prevents the five-match rule from costing a kid 3rd place if he wrestled back after a first-round loss. Don't want to hijack the thread but it's something for coaches who are running a tournament to think about.

So how much is he weighing now?
-
What is Myers weighing now that he's had a whole year to bulk up for heavyweight?
-
Should be a good test for the big guy. Not many get the opportunity to step on the mat with an Olympic/World/NCAA Champion. Good luck to him.

Predictions on one of the best two tournaments in the state? Teams? Individual match-ups?
