The Metzker/Scott Cooper match in 03 was at 140.

    Feel Good Small Guy Thread

His senior year he wrestled 135, which is kind of big for a "small guy" in my opinion. I know his junior year he was 130, and I imagine smaller than that as a sophomore when he won his first title.

    Regionals

Region 7- Henry Clay. They'll wrestle at least one round Friday night to avoid the five match rule.

Sullivan won for sure as a sophomore, was getting beat as a junior then locked up a double arm bar and stuck the kid, then lost as a senior. I'm not sure if he won as a freshman.

Forgot a great one... Jason Daviaux from Scott HS, 2x champ. The definition of slick!

Scott Cooper was obviously a hammer with only two losses ever in KY. However his two titles both came at 140. Not exactly a small guy, even though I know he was smaller as a freshman and sophomore. You could say Luke Metzger I guess, 1st as a freshman at 103, 3rd at 119, 1st at 135, then robbed as 2nd at 140. This is almost another example of a bigger guy, but he did win a title at 103.

The Carmens won two titles, one each in 98 and 99 I believe. In addition to being a champ, Parks placed 5th as a freshman and junior before tearing his ACL. Kyle Ruschell- 2x champ at 103 and 119 Nathan Boston- 2x champ in KY, ranked #1 in the country his senior year. Matt Zarth- 3x champ in 07, 08 and 09 at 119 Travis Sullivan- 2x champ, maybe 3... Billy Clark- 1x champ in 02 but was for sure the best wrestler at 103 probably two other years, just didn't win. Beat by a 19-year old senior as a sophomore and then I think got hurt as a junior. Billy should also get more love on this site especially... Chris Valentine- back in the days right before the weight-cutting rules came into play, physically a man among boys in 96 at 103.

    Helpful state duals info

I like the two divisions though, and having been at a school with a lower population, can understand their perspective. It's a good compromise for state duals because it throws the small schools a bone and allows the state tournament to stay mixed, especially since state is wrestled individually and state duals is competed for as a team. However I do like the idea of having the two champs wrestle a dual just for fun, especially since it wouldn't violate the five match rule. Agree about the right to complain, as long as it's kept civil then one should be able to express their opinion. However to be taken seriously it's best to offer a solution when complaining, as you've done Nike Man. After that though it's up to the directors to judge what's best for the majority.

    State Duals ?

Are the big and small schools champs going to wrestle each other at the end? It would only be the fifth dual for each team.

    State Duals- Small School Bracket

Are the two champions going to wrestle at the end? I'd be willing to attend if they do.

Any comments on Tylan Tucker at 120?

    Wolverine Invitational 1/28

I think it's being hosted by one of the Jessamine Co schools this year, scheduling conflict, so I imagine so.

    2017 State Tournament Time Table?

The state tournament is always the 3rd weekend in February, regionals the 2nd, districts used to be the 1st (now many teams take this weekend easy, but not all), and state duals the last weekend in January.

    Sectional Dual Alignment

Are the big and small school champs going to wrestle each other? I've always thought this was a good idea.

    Question...Tap Out?

I agree about teaching your wrestlers not to scream just to get off their backs. Most kids that do it really freak out instead of a plan to get off their back, at least I hope that's the case. Most young kids don't know anything and need to be taught literally everything, including keeping their composure. We see kids flip out after losses all the time, some have to be taught not to act like that. I think this is a similar situation. Just on a related note, I've seen coaches who had wrestlers who were legitimately slammed and injured by their opponents, who have had their wrestler continue the match for a couple of seconds in order to not take the cheap win. I have a lot of respect for doing that, obviously if they were losing at the time of the slam.

    Question...Tap Out?

    I can agree with that.

    Question...Tap Out?

I think, in high school, this could get a ref in trouble. The primary concern of the official is the safety of the wrestlers. All it takes is one kid being choked for too long to become a serious issue. This might just be one of the cons of sport.

    Question...Tap Out?

Just to play Devil's Advocate, wouldn't that "encourage" more wrestlers to try holds that potentially hurt or choke their opponents?

    Question...Tap Out?

Unfortunately it does happen. It's up to the ref I believe to judge the situation. If a kid does tap out while on his back the ref is supposed to award an additional back point to the wrestler on top.

    Defender of the Mat

I think Whitley Co is the only team that's cancelled.
  25. My original post was only referring to wrestle-offs, nothing to do with weight cutting.
