  1. But not as bad as making two accounts to play them off each other when arguing with people! I still can't get over that lol

    Region 7 Tournament

I believe the points aspect works like this, but am not 100% certain... an illegal move, such as a slam or full nelson, warrants the opposing wrestler a penalty point. The second time is another point, the third time is two points, and the fourth time the offending wrestler is disqualified. If wrestler A hits an illegal move, most commonly a slam, and wrestler B can't continue then wrestler A is disqualified no matter the score. If wrestler B is losing badly, sometimes their coach will have their wrestler continue for just a second and then forfeit because of injury, so that wrestler A can advance because he's clearly better, but sometimes they don't. However this is not required and is certainly a classy move on the coach's part.

2 seconds in high school, 1 in college.

    Region 7 Tournament

A wrestler making that statement is referring to practice... seemingly endless repetition of technique, conditioning, lifting, etc., all the aspects that make this sport so special in teaching kids diligence. For a young to middle-aged coach in a seeding meeting on a Sunday, it's more like, "I just want to get home to see my wife and kids that I don't get to see until 8-9 pm or later, six nights per week." I know more than one coach who's given it up just to be able to spend more time with his family. I can imagine a wrestler saying this though, and it's one if the reason so many quit. But your example involves a kid who's not affected by the length of a seeding meeting, instead of a coach who is. Make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Many times the meaning behind the statement is more important than the words being used, a point I made about semantics earlier in the conversation.

    Region 7 Tournament

I guess I don't think it's wrong for coaches to want to get home as soon as they can, this sport is grueling, which is why many choose to not coach anymore. By the way, I'm not one of the coaches with a bunch of top-seeded wrestlers who's team would benefit from random draws after the top six seeds. All year long we seed just the top four/six, and in my opinion we should just follow the same system instead of changing it up. At the DI NCAAs they seed the top 12 and that's it. Upsets are part of what makes the sport exciting.

I'm not current on the Woodford schedule. Has he wrestled the other top guys at his weight this year?

That is correct, perhaps he weighed in but didn't compete once.

    17 teams with full rosters

Agree on all points. About football, I think we need to approach those coaches and make the case for the wrestling team to serve as their off-season conditioning/agility program. I've always been willing to push back the start of my practice an hour to allow them to lift with the football team twice per week. We need to make them understand that we're not trying to steal athletes from them, and can help each other. However this may mean we can't push kids to drop an extra weight class if we want football players to encourage kids to wrestle. Coaches Carr and Parks I know were assistants on the middle school football team for a long time, which developed relationships with kids while they were still young.

Glad to hear since your original post gave me that impression. Good luck to Union Co, although I'm not sure they'll need it.

    Region 7 Tournament

I guess we can get hung up in semantics if you want. Fact is, I didn't know why we seeded all the way out, so I asked. Isn't the purpose of message boards to discuss things (ask questions, state opinions, etc.)? Even though I now know the reason why it's done, I still disagree, which is fine; I don't think Coach Teater is going to get in my face about it on Saturday. I didn't know you would be offended so easily...

Or I could have been asking for a clarification of why something is done the way it is, plus adding my opinion. My original post is actually a perfect answer of why message boards exist. Your response is a perfect example of someone jumping to conclusions instead of considering all reasons of why a person might ask a question.

    Region 7 Tournament

Can anyone justify why Region 7 seeds every wrestler? I would understand if trackwrestling sorted it all out for us but it just seems unnecessary and a waste of time. I think to be seeded a wrestler should have to have a winning record to begin with, and the seeds should only go through the top 6. An exception would be if a weight class doesn't have six wrestlers with winning records. Then I think you use the criteria and include all wrestlers, but still only go through the top 6.

    State Medals

This is true. In the 2012 Olympics, Franklin Gomez from Puerto Rico (NCAA champ from Mich St) faced the Russian who had beaten him in the World Championship finals the year before.

Or the meeting could happen the night before the tournament, when most coaches pick up their passes. Those who have to travel I imagine would arrive the night before anyway.

    State Medals

I've been saying this for years. This normally would not be the top 8 wrestlers in a given weight class, making it a LOT easier. For example, I was beat in the state finals by the same wrestler who beat me in the region finals, meaning I would not have been seeded. It wouldn't be a perfect system, but better than the complete random draw we have now. However, I do think the 2nd place finishers in each region should be placed on the opposite side than the region champs. Not saying this necessarily applies to me, but sometimes the 2nd best wrestler in the state is just unlucky by being in the wrong region. I imagine there are various examples of this throughout the years.

Former youth medals or not, this is better than it's been in previous years, especially with the brackets and t-shirts.

    State Tournament Time Table

Looks like they've FINALLY got the schedule right! Now all they need to do is have the awards ceremony after the following finals match instead of immediately after. It wouldn't take any more time to do it that way, right?

Thanks, I found it. Track is great in that everything can be done in the same place, but it would be nice if they made it more user-friendly.

    All Region Classic

What happens if a region has no wrestler ranked in a specific weight class in the pre-season? Would Ranger or whomever have to dig to find someone?

    All Region Classic

I love the idea but think it would be better in the preseason because I don't think kids are going to train the week after the state tournament either. Also, I think you would have to give a 10 pound allowance if you wanted wrestlers to stay in their "weight classes" a week after the season is over, we all know most kids are going to stuff themselves. I realize the best kids won't because they're going to compete in the off-season. What about trying to do it at the same time as the All-Star match? Regions with wrestlers competing in the All-Star event would use an alternate. It would have to be a dual tournament if all eight regions showed up or else the 5-match rule would prevent everyone from wrestling each other. Would be easy to do though with two pools of four teams each. The #1 teams would wrestle each other #2s, #3s and #4s would wrestle the corresponding team.
